It’s a shame the buzz hasn’t picked up much for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Bad timing hurt the first teaser, which was released the week we saw the immensely satisfying Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser. The footage revealed at Comic Con was an improvement, but the third trailer was a tonal mess. The reveal of Doomsday didn’t help matters. The fourth trailer we recently saw raised expectations for some.
By this point, we’ve seen quite a bit of footage from Zack Snyder‘s superhero showdown, so, of course, someone cut it all together. Watch the video below.
It’s hard to say whether this trailer is actually in chronological order, since we haven’t seen the movie yet, but most of M1llion’s predictions about the film’s structure seem on point. We all know by now Doomsday is the big third or fourth act baddie, and that Batman and friends will have to team up against Luthor’s creation.
We’re a month away from seeing Snyder’s film. A movie about Batman taking on Superman should probably have stronger buzz than this, right? So far Warner Bros. has been seeing more anticipation for Suicide Squad than their very, very expensive superhero picture. Will things get better for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Maybe the skepticism is more apparent online and enough moviegoers will show up next month. It is Batman and Superman, after all.
Since Warner Bros. is hoping this two-and-a-half-hour film (the running time was just confirmed) successfully launches the Justice League movies, would it be surprising if more than Batman, Superman, and Wonderwoman fought Doomsday at the end?
While this footage reveals too much, there are probably still a few surprises in store for audiences. We still don’t quite know what to make of Eisenberg as Luthor while Affleck’s take on Batman looks engaging, so at least we have those performances to look forward to.
Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’ most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
