Mike Myers Still Wants To Make A Dr. Evil Movie For 'Austin Powers 4'

It's been 21 years since Mike Myers introduced us to Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. The spy comedy spoof launched a franchise that continued with Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Austin Powers in Goldmember. While many felt the franchise had overstayed its welcome by the end of that third movie, there has always been chatter about a potential Austin Powers 4. And apparently Myers still wants to make it happen after all these years.

Mike Myers was recently asked about the possibility of Austin Powers 4 coming together, and here's what he told Entertainment Tonight:

"I would love to do a movie from Dr. Evil's perspective. So it would be Dr. Evil 1, Austin Powers 4, is how I would roll."

However, that's not really an update on any possible progress on the project. In fact, we already knew that Myers had an idea for a movie focusing on Dr. Evil.

The Long History of Austin Powers 4

Austin Powers 4 was close to becoming a reality back in 2008 when Myers and Mike McCullers (who wrote the Austin Powers sequels) were recruited for a fourth film. At the time, the project was said to be "very personal with a father and son theme loosely based on his own life."

After the initial reports surfaced, we didn't hear about the project for a few years. In 2011, news emerged that Myers had finally signed on for the sequel after disappearing for a bit following the flop of The Love Guru, but apparently New Line wasn't too sure if the project was really moving forward.

And now here we are, another seven years later, and Mike Myers is still tooting the same horn that he's been blowing for nearly 11 years. Will this project ever come to fruition, or is it just something that Myers will occasionally talk about whenever he's asked about it?

Honestly, as much as I enjoyed the Austin Powers franchise, right to the very end, the character of Dr. Evil seemed to run his course by the end of the franchise. Plus, his backstory seems to have been padded out rather nicely, especially in Goldmember when it was revealed that he and Austin Powers were brothers, with Michael Caine playing their father, Nigel Powers.

Then again, there might be a slight bit of renewed interest in the character after a recent late night appearance:

We know that both Mike Myers and franchise director Jay Roach are up for making Austin Powers 4 happen. But it seems like it's mostly up to Myers to flesh out his idea for the film, and then New Line has to figure out whether it's something they want to greenlight or not.

If Mike Myers is going to revive one of his beloved characters, I'd prefer that he do it in Wayne's World 3. Now that Bill & Ted 3 is officially happening, it would only make sense for Mike Myers and Dana Carvey to bring back Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar for another round of misadventures. That's what I'd like to see anyway.

Does anyone out there want to see Austin Powers 4 become a reality?
