Dread Central is reporting that New Line has asked Andrew Bryniarski to once again don the flesh-embedded mask and reprise his role as Leatherface in the upcoming prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Origin.
According to Bryniarski, he was already cast when the prequel was announced. However, rumors claiming that he was in contention for the role with a small list of other candidates began to fly. As of late, those rumors have been squashed, even though there has been no official word on his casting.
I say give it to him. His performance was one of the few positive elements in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. He came across with a brooding and evil presence that we have not seen since Kane Hodder's immortalization of Jason Voorhees.
I don't see much success coming out of this prequel, so to cast somebody else will do nothing more than bring this film even closer to box-office and critical disaster.
