Martin Scorsese plans to make a movie about a knights duel in medieval France.

Scorsese has signed on to develop a bigscreen adaptation of Eric Jager's historical novel The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in Medieval France.

Jager's book tells the story of a duel that occurred in 1386 France between knights Jean de Carrouges and Jacques LeGris. The Duel was the last sanctioned by the French government (King Charles IV). According to the book's synopsis, The Last Duel combines a captivating detective story, a revealing portrait of feudal culture in crisis, and an unforgettable tour of medieval crime and punishment.

Scorsese is still hard at work shooting the Rolling Stones documentary. Duel "won't necessarily" be his next film, but we hope it is.

Did You Know: The Departed is the highest-grossing movie of Scorsese's 40-year career.
