Tim Robbins has finally given up on his dream to direct a movie on George Orwell's 1948 novel 1984.

"1984 is touring, they're probably in Melbourne right now," Robbins told /Film. "The stage production of it. As for a film version, I don't think that's really going to happen."

Earlier this year it was heavily reported that Robbins wanted to bring the book back to the big screen: "I’ve got a screenplay of it," he told Empire. "And now I’m starting the process of trying to put it together."

Even though Robbins wasn't be able to direct a big feature length adaptation, he was able to produce the story for the small screen.

"I filmed it actually, with nine cameras. The last four performances in New York, the public theater," said Robbins. "I edited it, pretty much had to self finance it. We got distribution: Netflix and it premiered on the Sundance Channel. It's available online, so there is a film version."

And I guess that's all we're going to get. Can somebody, Anybody please give Robbins some money?

Tim Robbins can be seen in Catch a Fire which hits theaters on October 27th 2007.
