So I was surfing around the internet database last night when I found something interesting. Ben Savage was #1 on the STARmeter.

What is the STARmeter? According to imdb, the "STARmeter rankings provide a snapshot of who's popular based on the searches of millions of IMDb users. Updated weekly, these rankings also graph the popularity of people over time and determine which events affect public awareness." The starmeter is only available to imdb pro members.

Ben Savage has never been in the top 400 STARmeter rankings EVER before, until this week. So, you probably have two questions: Who is Ben Savage and how did he all of a sudden become the biggest star in Hollywood?

Okay, so who is Ben Savage?

Ben is a 26 year old actor who most will remember as Cory Matthews from the 1990's ABC television show Boy Meets World. He's also Fred Savage's (Wonder Years) little brother.

Why should I care about Ben Savage?

That's the right question. Ben hasn't made a released movie in the last 13 years. He does have two completed projects which are due out in the next 10 months, but both of the movies (Palo Alto and Car Babes) are low profile, at least right now.

So the question remains, why is Ben Savage the most searched actor on IMDB?

With a little research I was able to track the answer down to one website: Myspace.com.

Apparently, a rumor was created using MySpace bulletins claiming that Savage died in a drunk driving accident in September 2006. But we've confirmed through the right sources that this rumor is completely untrue.

It's funny to see how the power of myspace can and is used to create a hoax of this sort. If I was a forgotten childhood star I would be starting all sorts of rumors about my untimely demise. I mean, do you know how many Hollywood executives subscribe to IMDb pro? A lot...
