Good news and Bad news for comedy film fanatics. Good News: They made a sequel to the cult favorite National Lampoon's Van Wilder.

Personally I was very ambivalent about the film, thinking the only funny parts were due to the comic genius that is Ryan Reynolds. That brings up to the bad news:

Van Wilder 2: Rise of the Taj follows the other guy, you know, the one who wasn't funny in the first film. Nothing against Kal Penn, we loved him in Harold and Kumar and believe in him as a comic actor. But to make a sequel to Van Wilder without Ryan Reynolds is just suicide.

That said, check out the horrible trailer at MTV overdrive.

The movie hits theaters on December 1st 2006.

Plot Synopsis: TAJ MAHAL BADALANDABAD (Penn) arrives at England’s prestigious Camford University. Armed with the advice of his immortal party mentor, Van Wilder, Taj is destined to become the King of Cool at Camford.

Things quickly turn sour however when Taj learns that he has been rejected by the exclusive campus fraternity, the Fox and Hounds, during a cruel prank executed by its priggish head, Pip. Undaunted, Taj sweeps into The Barn, the oldest dorm on campus, and quickly transforms it and its lackluster members into the new and proud co-ed fraternity the “Cock and Bulls.”

With a new lease of life the Cock and Bulls decide to compete in the University’s annual Hastings Cup tournament. It’s a wild affair where each house earns points for academic, athletic and social service achievement. Taj becomes a man with a mission!

The competition is fierce and complicated by Taj's growing attraction for Charlotte, an upper-class, refined young woman, who is also Pip's girlfriend.

As the Cock and Bulls gain on the Fox and Hounds’ first-place position, Pip decides to take drastic measures and frames the Cock and Bulls for cheating. Not dissuaded by Pip's dirty tricks, the Cock and Bulls continue to compete even as Taj risks expulsion.

In the final cutthroat battle for the Cup, Taj and Pip dual with deadly sabers. Coached by Charlotte, who has fallen for Taj’s charming ways, Taj wins!!

Pip is left to wallow in a pool of his ancestor's dust and out-dated colonial thinking as he watches Taj and Charlotte kiss. Taj gets the Cup and the girl. Van Wilder would be very proud indeed of his party protégé.
