We would like to congratulate Ben Affleck for his award winning performance in
Hollywoodland.
In our weekend
review of
Hollywoodland, we raved at Affleck's performance:
Ben Affleck's performance is Academy Award worthy, finally fulfilling all the promises of his earlier efforts, which he gets less credit for than he deserves: Good Will Hunting, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Boiler Room. I've always believed that if Affleck were born 50 years earlier, he would have become one of the huge Hollywood stars of that time. He has the look and energy of the yesteryear actors, and this is the role Affleck was born to play. Even his campy performance as George Reeves playing Clark Kent is dead on. Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins and Adrien Brody also turn out incredible performances, but that's what you expect from those names.
Well, someone else also noticed his performance, Affleck
took the top acting award at the Venice Film Festival this weekend. Helen Mirren won the award for best actress for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Fears The Queen. The Chinese movie Still Life won this year's Golden Lion for Best Picture.
