Eddie Brock Not A Lock As Alter-Ego Of Alex Kurtzman's 'Venom;' Plus Update On The Script

As great a character as Spider-Man is, his villains are often just as interesting. That's one of the many reasons Sony is moving ahead with a Sinister Six film before they get back to The Amazing Spider-Man 3. They're also moving forward with a solo film for one of Spidey's most popular villains, Venom. That one will be directed by Alex Kurtzman, but we don't know much about it other than that it is happening.

In a new interview, the director gave an updating saying Ed Solomon will start writing the script soon, and that choosing which character would be under the suit in the film hasn't been an easy decision. Read the Alex Kurtzman Venom quotes below.

Kurtzman was speaking to Comic Book Resources about a new show called Scorpion and eventually got around to asking about Venom. Here's the exchange:

CBR: Where are you now onĀ Venom? Have you got your story broken?

Alex Kurtzman: Yeah, before last Friday came out, we started kind of roughing out a story. Ed Solomon's going to be writing it very soon. I can't tell you too much, but I'm really excited about it.Did you have an easy choice as to which incarnation of Venom, which guy under the symbiote skin, you want to go with?

I would not say it's an easy choice. I would say that there are quite a few things about Venom that are interesting. Venom had several different iterations, and there are several things that are very unique, interesting and specific. And so I think we all want to make sure that we're making the right choices for a character that's so beloved.

Even reading the full interview, I'm unsure what "last Friday came out" refers to, but it's kind of insignificant. The update is the same. He and Solomon are currently "roughing out a story" and the script will start to be written "soon." This isn't a movie that's close to happening.

More interesting though is Kurtzman's acknowledgement of the difficult choice to figure out who should be Venom. While most people assumed the film would star the original iteration, Eddie Brock, several other people (Mac Gargan, Flash Thompson) have also been tied to the alien symbiote that is Venom. Hell, even Peter Parker was originally taken over by the suit. Who is to say an Alex Kurtzman Venom movie couldn't be him? It seems all of those people are on the table, even though the safe money is on Brock.

Do you think Kurtzman can pull off a Venom movie? Do you think anyone except Brock should be in the film?
