venturawachowskis

You might recall that late last year, Arianna Huffington (co-founder of the liberal news website The Huffington Post) published a few tweets claiming that she was shooting a part in a secret Wachowskis Brothers film, a movie about the Iraq War, from the perspective of the future. We wouldn’t have believed it but Huffington posted photos from the set, one of which features Any Wachowski and Wachowski brother turned sister Lana Wachowski. Was it possible that the Wachowskis have actually sneaked their next film into production without anyone noticing? Or is this just part of a short film, commercial, or test footage for a potential future project? No one had any idea, and nothing more has been learned about the project until today.

Appearing on Tuesday’s episode of the Howard Stern Show on Sirius/XM Satellite radio, the professional wrestler turned actor turned governor Jesse Ventura dropped word that he just got done filming a movie for the Wachowskis. When asked if he missed acting and would ever consider returning to the big screen, Ventura dropped the bomb shell:

“I just did one with the Wachowski brothers…”

And if you think this is strange, it gets a lot stranger. More details follow below.

Ventura explained that he didn’t know where this film is gonna end up, to which Stern asked “What is the film?” Ventura responded: “I don’t know…” Ventura revealed that they didn’t have a script, and the whole thing was done ad-lib/improv.

“Wait til you hear what they did. They brought me, and they brought Arianna Huffington in after me. Arianna was there, and they had her looking like cleopatra. What they did… Do you remember what John Travolta looked like in that horrible film Battlefield Earth? They put multicolored dreadlocks on me all the way to here. They gave me this crazy beard that was hanging down pointed, looked like Travolta, right? And they put a third eye in the middle of my forehead. Because what this is, is this is a hundred years in the future, and they wanted me to talk about the current war in Iraq and how I felt about it. And so I got to vent, looking like this maniac in this whole outfit.”

Ventura said he did his rant about Iraq and then he was questioned by Lana off camera, documentary style. Stern responded that he doesn’t “understand what this part is about”, to which Ventura quickly responded: “Neither do I!”

Anyone have any ideas or know anything more solid? We’ll keep you updated.

Erik Davis (of cinematical fame) e-mailed me in response to the previous posting asking if it could be Cloud Atlas, the Wachowskis-produced Tom Tykwer-directed adaptation of the postmodern novel by David Mitchell . But as far as I’ve heard, that film is still in the development stages and Tykwer just wrapped last week on a new feature called Drei (Three), so it is unlikely that he is back behind the camera so soon. Or maybe Tykwer is no longer involved?

You can check out more photos from the Huffington shoot in our previous post about the project.

Speed Racer was a long drawn out waste of a film. Ninja AssAssin a disappointment, VforVendetta was okay, but too much lesbo storyline detracted from the core principles of the story.
The only movie that makes the wachowski's great is the first matrix movie. all else is not even original. They've yet to create an Original Movie since the Matrix. They are now indeed, one hit wonders.

They will never create another Blockbuster, because the first Matrix movie wasn't entirely their idea to begin with.

  • they've made what, 5 movies??? bound, the 3 matrix movies, and speed racer. the first matrix was good and the second one bad but entertaining. I haven't seen bound but matrix 3 and speed racer were AWFUL. DREADFUL. TERRIBLE MOVIES.

they make bad movies. they got lucky and had one very good concept and milked it so hard that it became bad. You guys need to see speed racer again because that shit was a god-awful movie.

why are ppl giving them money to make movies?
  • and you need to get yourself a brain and a heart... to then watch movies... any kind...
then we can have a talk, buddy.
  • Agreed, I really should see Speed Racer again. 'Cause it was fantastic.

everything is weird with the wachowkis...even if not all of their movies are good, they always give us something to talk about

Woah I didn't know about the sex change thing.
Speed Racer is probably one of the most underrated films of the decade. I thought it was brilliant, and I came into the theater searching for a "so bad it's good" film and instead found a visual masterpiece.
This sounds interesting, I'm excited to see anything the Wachowski's touch.

YESSSSS. These guys (?) are avant garde cinematic geniuses. MORE INFOOOOO!
  • ??? are you kidding me?
  • could it be matrix the prequel lol. take the iraq war as we know it out off this and put in the war between man and machine as in The Second Renaissance (the animatrix) also look the green screen is like the code what are the odds lol.

also did anyone notice that 01 the place where the machines found refuge after being exiled was in the middle east (watch the second renaissance it shows you) meaning that if the source of the machine city was in the very first place where the machines were built (0 1) that means zion was in the middle east. whoa!! but as zion was just another system of control its neither here or there. did tasty wheats taste of tasty wheat!!

Well, this could be interesting. Still looking forward to whatever the Wachowski siblings do, even if their output has been uneven.

not to kill any of the excitement behind this but, does this movie sounds exactly like the premise of southland tales to anyone else ?
  • yes yes and yes

Jesse Ventura no longer can act. He also has foot-in-mouth disease, a condition similar to that of the likes of Sean Penn and Tim Robbins.

Old actor is not necessarily synonymous with good actor.

just for the record; speed racer was amazing.

I just watched the Blu Ray again yesterday morning-- Such a shame that so many people hated it. There is and never will be anything else like it, they really succeeded in creating their own comic book-cartoon-video-game-world... Unfortunate that the majority of people didn't like the world they created. I would have loved to see it become a classic so that it could be remade and rereleased in 3D. That movie would be amazing in 3D.

Ehh. I totally respect the angle they went from. But it wasn't my thing.
  • zebrat
wow, sounds just crazy enough to work. man, speed racer (which is a great movie i don't care what you say!) really got me on board with the wachowskis again. definitely excited to hear more about this.
  • speed racer blew big time
  • Hmm, this could be good. Sounds good, at least.

I have a feeling this is going to be like the Halo 3 commercials when the old people talk in the museum. If it is done right, it will be a scificomeback for the siblings.

Although it would be nice to see another movie by the Wachowski's, I hope this one doesn't come out for a while cause I'm really getting tired of Iraq War movies. Also..is it really necessary to keep on pointing out that one of the Wachowski brothers got a sex change? I think it's pretty old news by now.

  • it's necessary to point out because it's damn confusing to say "Andy and his sister Lana are the Wachowski brothers."
  • plus it's fucking weird

    Shame on us--
    Doomed from the start--
May god have mercy on our dirty little hearts--

I got to meet Trent this summer and watch from on-stage NIN play.
I asked him about filmmakers he's worked with...
  • maled
It's not necessary but it's still interesting.
Besides, Lana looks pretty cute in that pic!
And I hope this turns out to be a short film or something because I can't stand their work in big doses lately.
  • Casey
You know, Lana does look pretty damned cute.

dudee u must have an ugly girlfriend haha.. jk

this really sounds like the wachowskis took a page from Blomkamp's original district 9 short. I have a feeling they are gonna take what these actors say, and relate it to a totally different war set in the future.

"about the Iraq War, from the perspective of the future." I really read this both ways. talking about the iraq war that we know of, but looking back on it say... if someone in 1947 made a movie about people in 2010 talking about WWII. OR, it's actually about a war in the future, that was carried out in a similar manner and under similar circumstances as the iraq war, and people are talking about it like a recent event and the wachowskis wanted that raw, true feeling towards the war.
  • Thank you, the first thing that came to mind was Blomkamp's interviews in D9. I'm glad someone pointed that out, cause I'm late enough no one would read my comments by now.

But regardless, this either sounds like it will be a Wachowski masterpiece, or be the nail in the coffin for them as they go the way of M Night.
