Disney’s Domain Name Purchase Hints at Possible Ant-Man Movie

Today it has been learned that Disney has purchased a new batch of internet domain names. The most interesting domain in the batch is a domain for an Ant-Man movie: ANT-MAN-THEMOVIE.COM. Now, this doesn’t confirm anything… but Disney doesn’t usually purchase domain names without reason. Looks like they are considering an Ant-Man movie.

When the Walt Disney Company announced they would be acquiring Marvel Entertainment, speculation began to run wild on which comic book properties Disney might tackle first. Disney doesn’t have rights to the comic properties in development at other studios like Spider-Man at Sony and X-Men at 20th Century Fox, and as of this second, Paramount still holds to rights to distribute up to five Marvel films, including: Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers and possibly one more unannounced film. And on top of that, there are still existing deals in which other studios hold the big screen rights to certain characters. Most of the online world concluded that Ant-Man would probably be the most likely candidate. And when it was revealed that Pixar boss John Lasseter “talked to the Marvel guys” about collaborating on a feature, Ant-Man was at the top of the list.

Comic creator Stan Lee sent out some tweets earlier this month claiming that he has met with director Edgar Wright regarding an Ant-Man movie, which Marvel is “prepping”, according to Lee. Adding fuel to the fire, Wright tweeted about his dinner with Iron Man director and Avengers producer Jon Favreau a few days earlier. Of course, speculation again ramped up that the Ant-Man movie would go into production after Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hit theaters this Summer. Wright responded to the speculation, telling MTV, “I can’t do two things at once, so [now that 'Scott Pilgrim' is finished] I will return to doing another draft of that one.”

Thanks much for the mention. Just wanted to note that after some careful consideration, I'm thinking 'When the Trumpets Sound' is also probably a possible alternative to Secretariat, alluding to the trumpeting before the start of the race.

Although on that token, 'Great Lengths' is also a viable alternative name.

The studios will have to set homework for everyone before they go in to The Avengers - you have to see Iron Man 1+2, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, The First Avenger: Captain America and Ant Man BEFORE seeing this film. You have 6 months: GO!

I was expecting Pym and Wasp to be introduced in The Avengers movie.

If he starts off as Ant Man and becomes Giant Man in this movie - with him meeting/marrying Wasp, the beginnings of their roles and relationship wont have to be covered by The Avengers - they can jump straight to them arguing; leaving more room for Avengers action, action, action!

If this film appears before Avengers, its covering more and more back story of all these characters so when they are all together you wont have the problem of the 1st X-Men movie of having to introduce everyone fully before they can do anything (fight the baddie/join together). But I guess people JUST watching The Avengers may be confused as to who all these guys are.

Like Black Panther, Luke Cage or maybe Captain Britain and MI6, would be nice to see a Marvel film not set in NY or LA for a change.

This is nothing against Wright I LOVE Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz he has good comic timing as well as filming good action at the same time.

All I was saying was maybe some bigger Marvel guys could get green-lit before this, or as well as. Ant Man really isn't that great of a character to be honest, more of a cameo background guy to me.

since Disney will now distribute the Marvel Studios' films it makes sense..Paramount never had a deal for Ant-Man...I'm sure it will be the first Marvel Studios production/Disney Pictures distribution film..I think it's ridiculous to jump to Pixar conclusions Marvel Studios will always handle the films..Edgar Wright is still directing and is currently working on the second draft...plus Pixar is too busy with their own materiel...while I'm sure Ant-Man will get it's financing from Disney
