Middle Men

Paramount Pictures has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to George Gallo’s R-Rated crime dramedy Middle Men. The film, which recently made its world premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, stars Luke Wilson, James Caan, Giovanni Ribisi and Gabriel Macht. Middle Men tells the true story of Jack Harris “the straight-laced businessman who helped launch one of the first porn websites” and becomes “caught between the Russian mob, a porn star, the FBI and his family, all while becoming very rich.”

In their film fest review, Variety called it “Boogie Nights’ meets ‘Goodfellas’” and called the film “a sleazy but undeniably intriguing tour of the bottom-feeding netherworld where porn and organized crime do their mutual bump-and-grind.” Watch an extended red band movie trailer for the film embedded after the jump.

Official plot synopsis:

Jack Harris has a faithful and loving wife, two beautiful children, and a successful career fixing problem companies. When an associate calls him about an opportunity to help turn around a business that has fallen into trouble, he decides to take the job. Little does he know, it is a decision that will change his life in ways he never expected. Jack meets with Wayne Beering and Buck Dolby, two genius but troubled men who have invented a way to sell adult entertainment over the Internet. The plan was brilliant but the execution wasn’t — they were making money hand-over-fist and losing it just as fast. Seeing the potential, Jack agrees to partner with Buck and Wayne, devising a way to bill the entertainment through a third party, taking the guilt out of the ultimate guilty pleasure. Before he knows it, he finds himself caught between the Russian mob, a 23- year-old porn star, the FBI, and losing his family in the process of becoming rich. Witness a story so outrageous, you won’t believe it’s true. A story that proves business is a lot like sex…getting in is easy, pulling out is hard.

Middle Man will hit theaters in 2010.

Believe me.. This entire story is very true and they were involved with the FBI tracking down terrorists after 911... I was there... Whenever you buy something online; remember it began with porn. ;)
I havent seen the movie yet but I hope its great.... And yes, we were at every award show back when since it was called IA2000.

Alright idiots and nay sayers...1) NO porn hasn't been on the internet since it's inception, porn was out YEARS & YEARS before the internet, if you don't know what you're talking about then do yourself a favor & SHUT UP! 2) Luke is great in this movie & isn't trying to copy anyone including Ray Liotta. Just because the movie get's compared to Goodfellas all of the sudden he is copying Ray? No moron, he's not. 3) The movie is NOT attempting to be Mad Men, or any other movie for that matter 4) For you tag line morons...runAROUND is correct 5) George did a great job, the movie was beautifully shot 6) why don't you see it before you judge......Oh, & by the way, before any rebuttals come in based on what I've typed, don't question my knowledge of this film as I was heavily involved in the making of it. I just wanted to set the record straight......

This looks like a fun romp .. not totally sold on the leading man, he seems miscast, but I love Giovanni Ribisi and to see him as a coke head putting porn on the web will be awesome!

seems as if luke wilson is trying to mimic ray liotta's narration from goodfellas...

I was pretty intrigued, but then Rade Šerbedžija showed up and I was most definitely on board.
  • How is this "based on a true story?" I'd honestly like to know. Hasn't porn been on the internet since basically it's inception? And they were at the 2003 AVN awards?

Couldn't have a less intriguing title. Middle Men? It's sorta going for the Mad Men vibe (especially w/ the logo) but in this case its just boring. The movie is about online Porn entrepreneurs playing a role in successfully taking down actual Terrorists! Middle Men? Lame.
  • General Tso
Right, because the people who will want to see this have tons of crossover with the Mad Men crowd.

Did you happen to catch the line, "We're just the middle men..."?

That wasn't a trailer; it was a short film. That said, I think it could be decent.

"getting in is easy, getting out is hard"..I think I just heard in Money Never Sleeps? anyway, great poster - waaaay too long trailer. Still gonna watch it tough.

That tagline is bullshit, too! With sex, getting in is the hard part, then, when it's all done, getting out is nearly impossible!

the tagline is ( its a lot like sex.. geting in is easy pulling out is hard )

Looks like the role of a lifetime for Luke Wilson!

glad to see him get a good role like this one. The last big movie I can remember him in was 3:10 To Yuma and he had a bit part (although pretty awesome) in that. And seeing his face in that dreadful death at a funeral remake... I was on the lot when they were filming that and when I saw Martin Lawrence I wanted to knock him off of his little Hummer H2 Golf Cart.

I've got the feeling that I already know the whole story now! That trailer was huge. But then again, I really like the style of it, so I guess it'll be worth seeing...
  • That was a long trailer. Also very very wide. I couldn't tell, was it stretched or does the film think it's Ben Hur or something.
  • affirmallchance
That's a terrible poster for a great trailer. Somebody needs to be fired.
