Red Band Kick-Ass Movie Trailer #2

Kick-Ass Poster top

Lionsgate has released a new red band movie trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of the Mark Millar comic book series Kick-Ass. As you know, I’ve been very critical of the marketing for this film thus far. I’ve not only seen the preview footage at comic-con, read part of the comic, but I’ve seen the entire film — it is awesome.

The three reasons why people will love this movie is because of the politically incorrect humor, the vulgarity, and the intense bloody super-stylized action. The posters for Big Daddy, Red Mist, Hit-Girl and now the entire cast, display none of these characteristics. They attempt to appeal to the masses with a colorful bublegum look (see above).

But this new restricted red band movie trailer is Kick-Ass — this is the movie, and this is the way to advertise it. Too bad most trailers and television networks won’t air this kind of trailer, because if you see this trailer, I’m pretty sure it’s as good as pre-ordering a ticket for opening weekend. Watch the trailer after the jump, and please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Official Plot Synopsis: The film tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

Watch the trailer in High Definition on MySpace. KICK-ASS is in theaters on April 16, 2010.

It must be a Tv show.

This movie looks pretty cool but I didn't laugh once watching this trailer. What was funny about the giant cock thing? Is the joke that its a little girl saying it? I think it would be funnier if she didn't say that but they showed the light instead.
  • kzap
The whole point is she's joking there is no giant cock light, if you don't get that this film may not be for you.
The joke is this little girl is mocking the teenage comic book geek.
  • Stainboy136
I still don't get it, what does a giant cock have to do with teenage comic geeks?
  • Tanner
What's the first song in the trailer?

    That. Was. Awesome.

I hope the religious right/moral majority gets wind of this film, and makes a big deal about it in the press. That kind of "anti" publicity will help the film develop a wider audience. To be a big hit it will have to attract the attention of the non-fanboys.

My guess is it will be a major hit.

    I'm the same as wahaha.
I'm a strong Christian and still happy to see the film.
That said I totally see what Arty is saying and I know some religious groups will kick up as fuss and that will only give it the 'Life of Brian' effect in getting more viewers and making it more of an event.
  • wahaha
I'm religious right and I'm DEFINITELY watching this, looks awesome :p

Hells yeah. It's a shame that the studio can't seem to properly convey the tone of the movie with a green band trailer, but it still looks awesome.
  • veloKid
That's cause you can't say "giant cock" in a green-band trailer. And I'm pretty sure you can't say "fuck his brains out" either, but I could be wrong about that.
  • JakeTheFatMan
I found it disappointing. The attempt at an edgy tone comes off as clumsy, with corny dialogue, awkward swearing and boring CG violence. It will play well to its young teenage nerd demographic.

  • Sweet! I can not wait! Looks like a good time.

This Red trailer is far better than the first one. Cannot wait for this one it's funny, Rude, and no brainer. The Heros are all tard's.
  • I just read the Hardcover yesterday. I see the differences between the film and the book, but it's not a bad thing. I would rather have two different pieces of Art rather than two pieces of the same art in different mediums. This is the way I view "Watchmen" also.

This trailer actually looks less good than the first red band one to me. But I'm not saying it looks bad at all. It doesn't. It still looks very cool. I just prefer the first Redband "hitgirl" trailer to this one.
  • Oh, god. I'm bought.
Definately not the kind of movie I'd see with my dad, I'd say with this trailer.
But it looks really, really good.

And definately a treat for us fans of the comics.

Best "Kick-Ass" trailer ever and one of the best trailers I've ever seen! The vulgarity is hilarious!
  • To some extent this looks like a parody of Raimi's Spider-Man. It looks awesome nonetheless.
  • Kyle C.
WOW! That is the first trailer to really give me an impression of the tone of the movie and it feels awesome. The other trailers almost made it feel like a 'Superhero Movie' like spoof. I cannot wait to see this now. This is the first and only trailer they ever should have shown.
  • soupcan58
I am absolutely 100% excited for this now. Doesn't fully make up for the wait for the final 3 issues of the first series, but damn if it doesn't hit everything I want it to.
  • wilsy
    This movie is FUCKIN AWESOME!!!
    The name says it all.
Hitgirl's delivery is also really hilarious haha
  • The_Kid

This looks fantastic!!! March, April and May are gonna be my favourite months this year. Alice In Wonderland, Clash Of The Titans, Kick-Ass, Iron Man 2 and Prince Of Persia. Epic line up.

Just from the trailers I can see whats been changed from the comics but I reckon its gonna be just as good, if not better than the comics. Can't wait for the next group of issues.
  • BrucebyDay
I already have a drinking game for this movie. Anytime that any character says "Kick Ass" or any iteration of that you drink...................... I am already smashed playing with just the trailers!
  • gigaherc
haha nice one - drinking games with trailers.

Let's say you drink every time it says "this summer" or "coming soon", hehe.
  • I'm not really getting any sense of "awesome" out of it.

It's possibly a step or two above "meh" but that's about it.
  • Mackey Sasser
Well, then you're an idiot then. Take a hike, buddy.
  • Yes. God forbid someone has a contrary opinion.
  • Soi
    YaaAaaY!

This trailer is bat-shit gonzo great!
Taking all the best parts of previous trailers & sewing it together like home made stitches. I had to watch it 6 times before I could post!

    "FUCK CRIME!"
  • I can't wait!!! I pray to God, that it opens on time in taiwan!!!
  • papasanchez
This looks amazing and can hopefully start a trend of how directors can make the movies THEY want to.

    Viva la revolution.
  • wESh
Well, if nothing, it already earned the #1 spot for best possible trailers ever in my book.
  • Craigasorusrex
    Fantastic.

    April is almost here.

Hey guys, any idea who the white car-jacker is at the start? It feels like I've seen him somewhere before...
