Vin Diesel’s Next Riddick Confirmed

David Twohy and Vin Diesel are confirmed to be reteaming for a third Riddick picture. Unsurprisingly, this one is said to be leaner and meaner than the second installment, the astonishingly baggy Chronicles. This is how Variety put it:

…insiders say the third outing will hew closer in tone to the cult hit Pitch Black and will focus on the character of Riddick as opposed to the universe he inhabits.

Somehow I don’t think it will actually end up a “character study” though. We know nothing of the plot so far, though Vin Diesel has been talking about potential sequels for some years. In 2006 he claimed a third film would be set in the “Underverse” and the fourth would be set on Furya, Riddick’s homeworld; last August he said that Twohy was writing two scripts but not what they were.

The film’s scheduling depends somewhat on how shooting for Fast Five, the next Fast and the Furious sequel, is slotted into the calendar.

Screw Fast Five! Get on with Riddick! I enjoyed these films and the Riddick character. I hope we get to see some of this underverse in the 3rd film.

I think Chronicles of Riddick was too "out there" in its commercials because it used filter lenses and had imagery that might not have looked too nice on TVs. The trailers didn't set up the story well. The film, however, was not a failure, it made over $127 million worldwide and the unrated DVD sold 1.5 million copies on the first day.

I think people are craving an original, unpredictable story with a market consumed by so many prequels and remakes.

I think Chronicles of Riddick was flawed but it was never boring and had some great visuals. Sure, the theocratic Necri were Borg rip-offs but I was interested in the Furian. Us sci-fi fans should not be complaining because this is a fresh science fiction film with the same two guys who developed the first movies. Here in Minnesota, you can get contact lenses like his.

Nice to see him get back to the movies that made him a star. Hopefully he's done with his Pacifier days.

He was a fool to not to State of the Union. Although the movie was rather lame, even if Ice Cube hadn't been in it. I see he's on board for the 3rd one.

I hated Chronicles in theaters, but I recently watched the DC on Blu Ray and I surprisingly found it very enjoyable. I could definitely go for some more Riddick.

I READ THE SCRIPT for the latest film while at the production company I used to work for. It's amazingly good. And yes, it is much more similar to the first Riddick film than the second one. I'm not allowed to say much, but Riddick finds himself being hunted in this new one!!!

If only they could go back to when Riddick was a badass criminal from an "Alien"-like universe who had dodgy prison eye surgery.

Now he's some sort of last surviving whatsit/savior of the galaxy in some space-fantasy, and he seems very out of place there.

It would be cool if they explored the Undervurse and delved into the Riddick's past a bit more. Chronicles was way underrated in my opinion. Psyched to hear that a third installment has been greenlighted.
