Video Montage: The Films of the 2000’s

zz2447cc64

At the end of each year we usually publish a couple video montages showcasing the best movies of the last 365 days. /Film reader Paul Proulx decided to take it one step further and put together a video montage of the films of the last decade - the films of the 2000’s. Watch the montage embedded after the jump.

    MINORITY REPORT!?!?!?!??!

Hey, this was a pretty well-edited montage in terms of the film clips you used. I have to say that I didn't like the Eminem or Chicago songs though. Why did you choose to use them instead of some other Oscar favorites from the past decade? "Things Have Changed" by Bob Dylan or "Vanilla Sky" by Paul McCartney would have worked SOO much better.

You did make up for it in the last section by editing to "Mad World." I just wish the whole video was that good.

Cool montage. Does anyone know where I can see some of the end of the year tribute videos mentioned in the introductory paragraph?
  • David Fernandez
Great Job!! Glad to see some Y tu mama tambien in there! Good video!

I loved this until I got to the end and realized that "Lord of the Rings" is nowhere to be found here> Sorry, but that's appalling.
  • moviejunkie
Umm...I am pretty sure Harry Potter came out in the 2000s. This is so incomplete.

    Where was Casino Royale???

It's really cool but there is a lot missing. Pixar, as well as Brokeback Mountain
  • Nick
why not any animated movies: (Miazaki or Pixar)
  • Adam
Great video. Really helped me to remember so many great moments in film over the last ten years and just made me think about how great and moving film can be in general. You should make ones of other decades too. 70s and 90s partiularly.
  • Josh
Yeah, so apparently there were no good animated films in the past decade.
  • Jose
We can complain about the lack of films - you POSTED this in a PUBLIC forum and left it open for COMMENTS. That's the reason why people are discussing it. Don't get annoyed and say "make your own film". It's put here to be discussed. It's being discussed.
  • AF
Yeah, he really shouldn't have called it "My Video Containing Footage of Every Single Good Film of the Past Decade, Tailored to the Tastes of Every Other Person on the Internet."

What's that? He didn't? Oh. Never mind then.
  • Jose
It was called "films of the 2000", which is pretty open to interpretation. It could have been called "Movies worth watching in the theatre for the 2000s". That would be a better clip to show.
  • Jay
Thought this was really well done.
I liked the music that was chosen.

Can someone tell me the film that has Tom Wilkinson pointing a gun at someone?
  • Todd Field's In the Bedroom.
  • joenostalgia
There were so many omissions, but I shouldn't complain that much, they put so many films that people would've forgotten too. And as for the music choices, since it's a 2000s montage, maybe it's best that they use three songs that became wildly popular thanks to film, maybe some of you didn't get that, but it makes more sense than inserting some random Linkin Park crap.
  • Slatters
Actually considering how irrelevant Linkin Park is now, it would have probably been inappropriate.
  • Slatters
    sorry *appropriate

What a beautiful compilation; really made me appreciate cinema and this past decade.

Can anyone tell me what that movie about 5:30 in was? It had the two people with black rabbit heads. Thanks
  • Jemaniac
    INLAND EMPIRE.

It was great to see a decade of wonderful cinema in a single video. But on the other hand I disagree with just about every musical choice.

I mean even cheesy overused songs wouldve made this an incredible watch. Bittersweet Symphony followed by Coldplay's Clocks. It would be really hard to go wrong any which way...
  • Thrillhouse55
"I mean even cheesy overused songs wouldve made this an incredible watch."

You mean like Mad World and Lose Yourself? XD
  • ERoBB
lol, Mad World is definitely cheesy. Lose Yourself is just bad..
  • elessar
More Lord of the Rings please... the greatest films of the decade was shown only some seconds? Deserved little more time, just a tiny amount...
  • HAL
Great tribute to the decade... so many good films!
The standout was Heath Ledger's performance in The Dark Knight... Also you omitted his (oscar-snubbed) performance in Brokeback Mountain too. He was excellent, as Ennis Del Mar, in that. He leaved a big mark in 2000s cinema...
  • petethepanda
Great montage. Tons of good stuff.

Pixar is definitely the biggest omission. They kicked the collective ass of the 2000s.
  • PizpotGargravarr
I love montages. When excellently composed/expressive/memory inducing shots are set to well chosen music it can send chills down the spine. This was a good effort. Some of the choices were a bit off but on the whole I really liked it.
  • Dave
Hey, idiots, it's the last ten years of film in seven minutes. Obviously there will be omissions. Someone spend a good deal of time (for free, I imagine) putting together the best compendium they could and the first thing you can think of is complaints.

Now, I am the idiot. Why on earth am I even reading comments? That shit will take years off your life.
  • Slatters
lawl dude where is Incredubles and heath ledger and dah sorceror's stonee
  • mickmac59
He had Ledger (from The Dark Knight - walking away from the exploding hospital),
  • jackdurden
I named 105/111 films in that montage. I have no life.
  • danielle
can you send me the list?
    please and thank you
  • frank
what was the movie with the rabbits in the living room?
  • Slatters
As well as being in Inland Empire, the Rabbit family are also from their own series of shorts called "Rabbits".
  • alex
It was a clip from David Lynch's INLAND EMPIRE.
  • David Lynch's Inland Empire.
  • Brent
hah. I should of guessed something as weird as that came from David Lynch.
  • jackdurden
    Inland Empire?
  • Lenny
Yeah that's what I wanted to know.
  • matt
I haven't even watched this montage yet, but the rabbits in the living room could only be David Lynch's INLAND EMPIRE.

Been a fan of Paul's videos for a while and enjoyed this one a bit. It had a different flow to it than the '80s and '90s vids, which seemed a little more cohesive visually and thematically, but this was still cool nonetheless. I highly recommend checking out his Directors series, particularly the Kubrick, Scorsese, P.T. Anderson, and Ridley Scott works, along with the aforementioned decade vids.
  • To everyone bitching about what movies are or are not included and what musical choices were made, make your own or stfu.
  • ERoBB
So we shouldnt have an opinion? Maybe he shouldnt have made the video then. And maybe /Film shouldnt have posted it. And maybe you shouldnt have commented on it. Because you have an opinion too, which makes you just as bad, only on the other side of the discussion.
  • shikamaroooo
lol most over used song and no lord of the rings and harry potter
  • so the shot of Frodo and the Ring doesn't count?
  • Thrillhouse55
    /facepalm at Mad World. lol.
  • malars
There were a few on there I didn't recognize. Would it be possible to get a list of the films used in order shown?
  • Philippe
Nice job. Dogville would have been nice though.
