Tim Robbins Cast in Green Lantern

Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption, Mystic River, The Player) has been cast in Martin Campbell’s big screen adaptation of the DC Comics superhero Green Lantern.

According to Heat Vision, Robbins will play Senator Hammond, a former astronaut and the disapproving father of the movie’s villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (played by Peter Sarsgaard). The doctor comes in contact with a meteor and becomes infused with psychic powers, genius level intellect, and telekinetic abilities. As far as I can tell, Robbins’ character was not featured in the comic series, and is a creation for the film adaptation (and from what I understand, nbot a large role in the movie). I’m sure one of our comic experts will weigh in. At very least, the character was not a sizable role in the mythology.

The rest of the announced cast thus far includes Ryan Reynolds as the title character, Green Lantern, and Blake Lively as his love interest, Carol Ferris. Green Lantern is set to begin shooting in New Orleans this March, with the film scheduled to hi theaters on June 17th 2011.

  • Yeah, he's the guy that tests and oversees the new airplane model Ferris Air is developing, if that old draft is to be believed.
  • This could become very impressive. If they do a good Sinestro storyline, that is if he has a general downfall in the first one, it could be great...

"the disapproving father of the movie’s villain, Dr. Hector Hammond"

Sinestro had a Dad? Making a Green Lantern film with any other main villain would be LOL.

  • Sinestro didn't start out as a villain. They're probably saving that for the sequels.

Seems like a waste. He would be a great piece of casting for a bigger role...Ganthet/Sinestro/Hector...
  • The_Kid89
Did they ever confirm Mark Strong as Sinestro or is that still up in the air?

But who will play Hal's trusty stereotypical sidekick???

Good news, green lantern isn't lookin to shabby! Anytime I hear some news about this film (only from my beloved /film) it just seems to be getting better and better.

I really can't wait for another decent DC character gettin their chance on the big screen. Been well fed up with supes and batman!! NOT! Ha ha, see what I did with the whole waynes world quote?! I rock.
  • Wow, this casting surprises me. Actually adds some integrity to Green Lantern. I don't have high hopes.

Hector Hammond has been in the Green Lantern mythos since 1961. Not a huge nerd, but the name rung a bell so I googled it. He has a giant skull in the comics, not sure if that will translate well to the screen.
  • mangoshakes
well on that subject, i doubt we'll be getting a full giant skull. maybe just a lil bit. that's for the best obv.

Totally did not read any of that article correctly, my bad.

Isn't Robbins in IM2 also..? I love the fact some actors are donig both DC and Marvel, heh
  • Guest
No, he's not. Dude from Mad Men took the role instead. Slatterly.

This movie is getting an impressive cast. I like where Campbell is going with this.

absolutely agree. we are getting pretty damn lucky with each GL announcement. my favortie get so far is saarsgard. the fucker is on the brink of exploding to the a-list. i re-watch 'shattered glass' every chance i get, just for his performance. im disappointed with some of the roles he's taken, but this will hopefully expose him to a wider audience.

now that im done expressing my mad-on for PS, i'll close with saying GL is my most anticipated 'in development' film.
  • capawesome
Definitely agree with Saarsgard. And I also agree that GL is highly anticipated by myself as well. I think this film is going to turn out great.
  • joseph gordon-levitt for tim robbins
  • mangoshakes
hmm. k. Can't say i know his character either. I'm still hoping for a nice fan nod(not that i ever wanted him) to get Nathan Fillion to be Hal's father in the flashback. and i'm assuming there is a flashback cause there's a pretty key character moment in his childhood.
  • mchops
    He's washed up IMO.
  • Trollblaster
Yeah, that Best Supporting Actor win was like 6 whole years ago. Way past his due date.

  • Malaguy
You're retarded. And so are the 15 other people who liked your comment. Tim Robbins is not past his due date, since he doesn't have one.
  • capawesome
    * whoooooooooooooooooooooosh *
  • Trollblaster
Wow, someone's sarcasm detector is clearly on the fritz.

    Dumbass
  • theJOker
