Cop Out Red Band Movie Trailer

Cop Out

I’m a huge fan of Kevin Smith, and have loved every movie he’s released thus far (yes, even Jersey Girl). But the first trailer for his new film, a buddy cop comedy which he didn’t write, Cop Out, had me worried. I’ve read the script, and thought it was mildly entertaining, and I was hoping that Smith would elevate it to something more. The first trailer had me disappointed, and I wasn’t the only one. The only person I’ve talked to that was excited about the trailer was Alex from FirstShowing, and that’s not a joke at his expense, that just happens to be the truth. It just didn’t feel like a Kevin Smith film, but maybe that’s the point?

Kevin Smith’s red band internet-only movie trailers are notoriously better than the green band counterparts. So when I was informed that the red band trailer for Cop Out was available on MySpace, I was excited and nervous. Could this cut of the trailer do what the previous version failed to do? Or is the the dud that some people feat it will be?

Okay, so it isn’t a home run. It didn’t hit it out of the park. It is no Last Airbender Superbowl tv spot. But this trailer was enough to restore my faith in the film. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Watch the trailer after the jump and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Directed by Kevin Smith (“Zack and Miri Make a Porno”), “Cop Out” features two longtime NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card who find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. Jimmy (Bruce Willis) is the veteran detective whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, and Paul (Tracy Morgan) is his “partner-against-crime” whose preoccupation with his wife’s alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.

Kevin Smith directs “Cop Out” from a screenplay by Robb Cullen & Mark Cullen (TV’s “Las Vegas”). The film stars Bruce Willis (the “Die Hard” films), Tracy Morgan (TV’s “30 Rock”), Adam Brody (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”), Kevin Pollak (“Tropic Thunder”), Guillermo Diaz (TV’s “Weeds”) and Seann William Scott (“Role Models”).

The film is produced by Marc Platt (“Rachel Getting Married”), Polly Johnsen (upcoming “Cats and Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore”) and Michael Tadross (“I Am Legend,” “Hitch”). Adam Siegel (“Wanted”), Robb Cullen and Mark Cullen serve as executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography David A. Klein (“Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” “Chasing Amy”); production designer Michael Shaw (“August Rush,” “Boys Don’t Cry”); costume designer Juliet Polcsa (“The Sopranos,” “Jersey Girl”); and Academy Award®-nominated composer Harold Faltermeyer (the “Beverly Hills Cop” movies). As he frequently does, Smith serves as his own editor on the film.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, A Marc Platt Production, “Cop Out,” to be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. The film is scheduled for release on February 26, 2010.

anyone know the names of the songs?
  • Kevin Smith! Had he ever disappoint me in his previous films? Never! The guy is the best, especially in the comedy genre. I do believe he can deliver this one really really well as well. (Love the ryhme... :0)
  • Gonna see this as soon as i can.
  • Erik
Name one filmmaker who wrote and directed his first nominated movie aged 22! So you say that this guys isn´t allowed to get experienced over the years to finally make his first major flick at the age of 39? Thank God I´m European...

This looks awesome! We love you Kevin Smith!!

Who the hell did Kevin Pollack play in Tropic Thunder?
  • Colfud
Perfection does excist. it's called a Kevin Smith movie.
  • Joey C
Awesome! I like seeing chimpanzees get head too.
  • Fir3Wolf
This was a much better trailer compared to the last one. I was going to see this movie anyway, just cause it is directed by Smith.
  • asianrage
Awesome!!! I'm IN for this movie.
  • It makes me sad every time I see the trailer on TV and there is a not single mention anywhere that Kevin Smith directed it.
  • RandyFlagg
Definitely looks much better! Had me cracking up!
  • Phil
Still looks pretty disappointingly unfunny to me. I don't know. Just not feeling it...
  • Nel
HILARIOUS! I'm definitely checking this out, this is the first time I burst out laughing in a while.
  • Now were talking!

I'm from North Jersey where your legally required to be a Kevin Smith fan and I was very worried after seeing that green band trailer but this red ban one fixes all of the issues I had. It looks as if the best bits are really vulgar so it probably impossible to cut a good trailer that can play on TV.

    3 x LOL

    APPROVED

I actually laughed at that so much.
  • Sockin
    Bruce Willis, window, interrogation. Priceless.
  • JesseWhitehead
The nut shot just went from being the worst joke in the ads to the best one. I'm told that the movie itself is pretty good but Warner Bros. needs to fire whoever is cutting these ads together.
  • Mmmmm... Rashida Jones is purty.

And this trailer is marginally better than the previous one.
  • She seems abnormally pale in this trailer. As least paler than in Parks and Rec last night.
  • JesseWhitehead
I hear that she shows up in lingerie at one point in the movie. That alone has me buying a ticket.
  • I don't know if I should be proud of this or not but I thought it was funny. Tracy Morgan has always slayed me. Easily my favorite part of 30 Rock and I loved his work on SNL. I'll see this movie for him at the very least.
  • griffin
"It is no Last Airbender Superbowl TV Spot." I wish I thought you were joking, but I'm pretty sure you were serious...regardless, I'd rather watch the Cop Out red band 100 times than Airbender again...
  • tenno
It's better, still feels more Ratner than Smith.
  • asianrage
Wrong, Ratner can't even understand funny.
  • waxpencil
Based on the first trailer, I was expecting to hate the hell out of this one too, but I actually laughed a lot. Mainly at Tracy, because he's like Michael Cera where he can play basically the same person all the time and still be undeniably awesome. that's right, undeniably, to all you Tracy haters.
But I have to say that Bruce seemed to be the weakest part.
  • Sweet relief! I haven't laughed at a trailer in a long time, and it was equally impressive that I laughed because I was sceptical. Brilliant.
  • Mike
Yeah, I was laughing. It's Winter. Theaters are heated, and I'm laughing... so yeah. I'm in.
  • im on board now. gonna see this as soon as i can.
  • ERoBB
Alright. Now I can get on board with this...
  • littlegreen
Love the chemistry between the guys, very Tarantino-esque. Tracey has huge star potential, no longer the peon at SNL. Go Tracey Go!

    Rental.
  • S_Rose
In defense of Smith, although the hate seems to have lifted a little, everyone needs a pay check, right?
  • matt_od
no red band trailer will fix the fact that Smith cast Morgan.
the man is just not funny.
  • worst opinion i've ever seen on anything ever.
  • Hitler's opinion on Jews?
Worse than not liking TM I'd say.
    ;)
  • S_Rose
You must not watch 30 Rock.
  • Morgan is 30 Rock's weakest link.
  • PizpotGargravarr
I disagree, for me the weakest link on 30 Rock has always been Jane Krakowski. Well, it may not be her fault but the character Jenna just irritates me. Morgan certainly isn't the best part of the show but he's solid and often pretty funny.
  • IK!
I have to highly disagree on this.
  • mangoshakes
ahh sean william scott. still funny
  • Amen. Him in Role Models. Heaven.
  • Tracy Morgan has a speech impediment.

Kevin Smith can't pace comedy anymore.

The kid stealing cars thing is just embarrassing.

    Bruce Willis is pretty good.
  • I want to agree with you about the stealing cars bit, but then Tracy Morgan punched the kid in his penis and all was forgiven.
  • waqman
That joke was done a million times better in Bad Santa BECAUSE:

A black midget punches a fat kid in the nuts. Way better than this one for sure.
  • I was thinking the exact same thing. TM is awesome. He's like the black Michael Scott.
  • I was pretty down on the first trailer but this one made me laugh a few times and Morgan crotch-punching the little kid made me laugh out loud.

If it had only been the first trailer I'd seen, I would not have seen this but with the red band trailer I'm willing to give it a try.
