Website Spotlight: Movie Titles Stills Collection

Web designer Christian Annyas has created a website, Movie Titles Stills Collection, focusing on the art of movie titles in feature films.

Annyas explains why he started the website:

I’ve seen a lot of movies over the years, and to prove I’ve sat through at least the first ten minutes of them I started making screenshots of the titles. Then my computer crashed and I almost lost them all. To save them for future generations I created this little website

I use to collect my ticket stubs for every movie I went to see in theaters (a practice that went by the wayside after I began attending press screenings, which for the most part, were stubless), and I love the idea of keeping a piece of each and every film you see in theaters or on television. So I certainly respect Annyas’ efforts. The site isn’t as comprehensive as I would like it, but it does feature a good variety of titles from 1920 to 2010. It’s definitely worth checking out. Thanks to JoBlo for pointing me towards this site.

    Movies: Title on black.
This guy spent a helluva lot of time doing something that interests me for 2 minutes. For that I commend him

Can one purchase prints of these through the site? Or posters?
  • A nostalgic, yet slightly pointless website. It reminds me why I never remembered the opening title card of films from the 1910s, 1920s and 1930 (a part from 'Metropolis' and 'Nosferatu').
  • Pointless for you, maybe-- but it got the web designer who created it plenty of work. He created it to demonstrate his abilities as part of his portfolio.

Sorry, but you're a loser for making such a sweeping statement, because this isn't a pointless website. It clearly illustrates the decline in Hollywood's creativity over the history of motion pictures, specifically the title cards. Just look at the titles from the last two years. Wow.... how interesting.

95% of all websites are pointless, Captain Obvious.
  • I love a good titlecard. I use the film's title card as the display picture for movies in my iTunes. My personal favourite is Lawrence of Arabia with its crane shot of Lawrence preparing his motorcycle.
