Man Dies After Watching Avatar

Avatar

A 42-year-old Taiwanese man died of a stroke, which his doctor claims was likely triggered by “over-excitement” from watching James Cameron’s Avatar in 3D. According to News.com.au, the man began to feel sick during a screening earlier this month and was taken to hospital.

Mr Kuo, who had a documented history of high blood pressure, arrived unconscious and a cat scan revealed that his brain was haemorrhaging. The man died 11 days later from the brain haemorrhage, which his doctor claims was triggered “from watching the movie.”

Eh, I give that 7/10. Good effort.

First someone gets shot, now someone has a stroke.

Looks like Avatar...*sunglasses*...is a killer at the box office.

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
  • I wish I could have hit the "like" button another 20 times. Seriously cracking up.

  • Although it's a human being that died here i must confess I laughed out loud.

Doesn't that statistically make avatar more harmful than marijuana?
  • theJOker
No, because marijuana obviously is the gateway drug to creating movies about blue cat people.
  • misterclock
I wonder when the FDA will step in and have warning ads placed at the beginning of Avatar 3-D stating "this movie may be addictive and hazardous to your health".

I'm sure JC will be horrified by this news, but some part of him is probably very pleased.
  • Jon
at first i thought JC stood for..well JESUS CHRIST...i was confused until i realized it was cameron...although it did add a whole new layer to the humor in the situation
  • theJOker
Me too. Then I thought John Connor.
  • Don't you find it odd that the more people go to a movie, the more weird shit happens in the theater?

This a sarcastic remark right. Like someone above said, statistically this is bound to happen. And with a movie as big as Avatar it will surely be reported. I'm sure this isn't the first guy, or the last, to die from a stroke during a movie.
  • Brian
I can't believe the comments here. This is a human life and you guys don't care and are making fun of the fact. This is terrible, the man was 42...sad news indeed.

107 humans per minute die around the world.

    1.78 per second
    107 per minute
    6390 per hour
    153 thousand per day
    56.0 million per year
3.9 billion per average lifetime (70 years)

    Life goes on.

I doubt you or anyone else here would know, or even care if I dropped dead tomorrow. With or without seeing Avatar. At least this guy is now famous and that's more than can be say for the 17.8 people that died just while you were reading this post. But, if you feel that bad about it, you can always pay for his funeral, or send him some flowers... maybe send his family a copy of the Avatar DVD... since he's not going to be available to take them to go see it.
  • 1.78 per second?

A part of me died when I read that statistic.
  • Joe
Well, about 3 other people died while you were reading it too.
  • starscream9289
He is one with Eywa now.
  • Are they sure it wasn't bad writing that killed him?
  • Hal
    That guy?

    James Cameron really is GOD!
  • Blackstar
Only in his own mind. :P
  • Craigasorusrex
To bad a tree of souls doesn't actually exist that way they could of transferred his mind into the body of an Avatar.

Joke aside its kind of sad that had to happen. The guy was only 42.

interesting story. that's too bad though. that's terrible to hear.

this reminds me of the story of a man watching a Pulp Fiction that, I believe, had a heart attack while watching the film during the "syringe" scene. He was diabetic and he was low on sugar but the scene put him over the top. He was fine once he had some sugar though, thankfully.
  • concretelogic
Alright, seriously, what the fuck?! Avatar again? Really? Every piece of non-news bullshit about this movie has to be reported on? Was one day without Avatar news is too much? Really. Really?! REALLY?! Some dude had a stroke in a movie theater, it may or may not be related to the actual movie, and because it involves Cameron's cat people it's worth an article? It's driving me insane. I see those goddamn blue faces in my sleep now. they haunt me. Those little jellyfish seeds have taken root in the depths of the internet, wriggled their nerve endings into everyone's brain and taken over the entire fucking world.
  • U mad, brutha.
    U mad.

We all know Jay Leno is what really killed that man. That's right people! I'm making it about Leno. I'm THAT guy.

    I'm glad you exist.
  • mbellerbrock
Haha, I'm gladd Jesse has resorted to this too, it's become pretty funny.
  • afrovince!
fyi - NOT sarcasm! I applaude you, sir.

a human died. there are more important things here than complaining about a movie you didn't like.

please try to be constructive to the conversation.
  • concretelogic
It has nothing at all to do with my opinion of the movie. But do we really need to hear about it every 8 hours?

And I was obviously exaggerating. I'm annoyed at the excessive non-stop coverage of this movie for the past 6 months.
  • greycolumbus
Other people might like people dying?
  • gigaherc
Hmm other people might like this, haven't you thought about this, concretelogic?

Aww, forgot you're the one that doesn't do that.
  • hankN
I don't think that came through in your initial post and I think that this could have been any film and we would have gotten this news.
