TEKKEN Movie Trailer

zz1f96cd68
The movie trailer for the big screen adaptation of Namco’s popular fighting video game Tekken is now online. Directed by Dwight H. Little, the guy responsible for crappy bargain bin titles such as Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid and Marked for Death, which starred Steven Seagal, and from a screenplay written by Alan McElroy, the guy behind The Marine, Wrong Turn, and Halloween 4.  The film version is a science fiction gladiator story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people.

The year is 2039. World Wars have destroyed much of civilization as we know it. The remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations, the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses down, Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory and receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth.

I’m not sure what looks better, this or the last Street Fighter movie. Watch the trailer embedded after the jump.

Thanks to /Film reader Mark S for the tip.

what i dont understand why does everyone(most people) and even me at times take these kind of movies so serious i mean goddamn we want the acting to be oscar nominated and plot as good as the hurt locker is. But eventhough all the fighting games movies are crappy(even the first mortal kombat) they still suceed because we always love their fighting scenes and thats really what the producers, directors, etc. really want.
  • Blackout4110
You know, you don't have to watch it for the storyline~just watch it for the fights. That's what I did for the Dead or Alive movie~which I was rather mortified for.
  • AGUSTIN
TEKKEN is my favorite video game, can't believe his movie sucks that bad!
  • Jim
Mortal Kombat 1 was the only good one.
The thing that's really bad about this is that it's all in one ring.
If the directors took the time to read the dang story the fights are supposed to happen anywhere as the story unfolds.

Christie is white L. O L. Fail movie is fail. Not since Mortal Kombat since a videogame movie has been correctly done.
  • Smokinglampshade
it actually loos pretty cool, most of the chracters look pretty accurate. ive been playing since the start and i cnt see much problem. its a game-movie so it was always going to b pants. u guys shouldnt have gpt your hopes so high

I dont why people are slagging this film off so quickly for one we havent seen the whole film yet and from what I saw the fighting scenes look good i agree it could have been better but its not as bad as people are making out try watching street fighter mortal kombat and dragonball evolution tell me if any of them are better ? lol what im really hoping for is if they make a sequal put paul pheonix in there and make kazuya change 2 devil and jin 2 devil jin with the technology they have these dyas it has the potential to be a great movie!
  • spyda
I think they got the look down pat it looks just like the game it even has a vs matchup screen
  • Steffen Heilmann
Been waiting for the Movie to be released for years, casting is great,(if you ask me) and I think they are very similar to their roles,im an martial artist so I think the cast couldn't be more perfect, would love to see more pics...
  • •••Asuka•••
i think the movie is good.... but why there's no Asuka....
  • lethalleke
you lot dont have a clue do you, if any of you just took the time you would see that about 70% of the cast are world renowed marshal artist like john foo he is one of the best wushu exports on the planet. Also they have one of the best marshal arts actors i have ever seen. In lateef crowder as well as chun le how is an MMA frighter. What you idiots have to understand is that for the most part they have gone the right way with this film and are using good frighters instead of actors. Just remember you will not get all you want from this film but don't slate it till you have seen it. That of this film as like ong bak but a little more hollywood. By the way must of the actors that can will do all there own stunts like john foo and lateef crowder. And if you don't think they are any good watch Warrior King which also stars Tony Jaa.
For me tony jaa should have played jin but john Foo is almost as good as him.

only complete nerds would complain about how the storyline is ruined because of a tekken film 'rendition'. It's a fricking fighting game!! What storyline?? the franchise destroyed its own storyline...only the plots in the earlier games were good...Tekkens 5 and 6 just ruined it at already....so I don't care about it staying true to the storyline. I like the fighting games for the fighting...and I like fighting game movies for the characters....and the fighting! Enough nerdy b/s and just take it as a martial art movie that's based on your favorite fighting game loyal enough to the CHARACTERS

i could've made a better Tekken movie than that
  • chotime
come on people it could be worse i mean they could have gotten lame actors or made a fuck up like street fighter or dragon ball, i think above all it could be eh okay I am a long time tekken fan and well ppl need to fuck up something befor they can try again maybe some one will do a better job next time
  • Wow... I'm usually good at picking up at least one tiny thing that looks promising in a movie trailer, but I just couldn't see it here. I can't remember the last time I saw a trailer and just thought.
  • Michael
Jesus...everyone is already knocking this film before they have even seen the bloody thing!!!!! I always find that trailers shouldnt judge a whole film...ive seen some amazing trailers then gone to see the film which turned out to be absolute crap! I think we can safely say that the action and fight scenes will be imense because of the involvement of Cyril Raffaelli.
We shouldn't judge it just yet noone has even seen the full film apart from those who made it and they arn't going to slag it off are they!! Get a grip people....you might change your minds when you actually see it!
  • Recko
You people seem to forget this is a Tekken movie! No movie based after a game espiecially fighting genre have eva been exactly the same. if it was no1 wuld see it, i mean imagine paying to see sum1 basically playing the game for 2hrs how lame wuld tht be. and tekken does not i repeat does not have a true storyline to go off the only games tht do are rpg's any other genre in games the story's are too short. Theres no point in hating on a movie before uve even seen the whole thing an i bet every1 here who is will still watch it anyway! Hell i am i mean come on martial arts, action, hot chicks wats not to like
  • Crucifire
honestly, it's about what I expected. it's a Japanese video game that's almost entirely about martial arts fighting. the story i there in the game but I doubt the filmmakers wanted to invest that much time and money into it knowing that most people will not know the bckstory or that the one's who do will bitch about every little detail anyway. I don't see how it could be as bad as SF Legend of Chun Li or Dragonball considering how far off the source material they got. The first SF movie was more loyal to the game than that on was, and they didn't even attempt to make Goku Japanese. It may not be on the level of The Dark Knight, Transformers or Avatar but that doesn't mean it won't be interesting.Crucifire
  • Tiera
i wanna cry after watching this cause i know they are gonna make this movie horrible just like they did with drangonball evolution and street fighter the legend of chung li
  • tekken fan
well how can they make a good movie when they have a crappy writer that only writes shit, and a director that also directed pieces of shit, so many movies can be made with better quality if they just get the right people to work on it, and proof of that was avatar !!! we have the technology now, but we still need better people behind the people.
  • ron
Maybe because, if you want impossible 20 flips and flames coming off your hands when you hit them, you should stick to the video games. Other then that, stop shooting down the movie before you really see it. If you want close to real video game movie, then play the game. The movie looks promising and portrays closely to MMA fighting more then anything, so the real folks who know this type of fighting will enjoy it as is and as "Tekken" the movie.
  • el-ei lopez
after watching this...i was very disappointed...i mean c'mmon people...you've ruined tekken history...and where is xiaoyu, lei, hwoarang, and asuka!?...this is very low...bad quality and effects as well as the budget...whew...what a waste!!!...bad image for the game and i'm a BIG FAN of tekken since the beggining!!!
  • Cealix
I honestly don't see why some of you are getting extra butt hurt over this. If they (directors, producers, whatever) REALLY wanted to stick to the series, then there would be an excessive amount of subtitles (only a handful speak english in the series), lots of different locations (have we all forgot about the fighting locations in the series, like King's ring in tekken tag or the lava area in tekken 5?), unrealistic maneuvers (jin's spinning uppercut and eddie's constant cheap shit), and a whole bunch of CG that'll take away what it was all about. But to the people that call themselves tekken experts and bitch about the story, then you OBVIOUSLY have no clue about it, seeing that Jun dies in Tekken 3 and Jin wants to avenge her death by entering the tournament. THAT'S THE SAME AS THIS STORY TO THE MOVIE!

And yeah, lets throw a bunch of animals from the series and have them fighting to death, ignoring empires like PETA because they surely won't get as butt hurt as the people posting their comments to this trailer.

    Go back to Halo.
  • marc
i read all the badcomments here before i clicked play on the trailer and thought it wouldnt be as bad as you lot made it out to be.
    it was worse.
has the director ever played the game before do you think?
  • kyleon
WTF!! is going on here this is bullshit! just like dragon ball!! people need to stop making movies off of video games, cartoons, comics and just turning them into complete ass let someone else do it right this shit takes time sweet ass video game is f**ked thanks a lot
  • warlore
shit, shit, shit, btw this movie is going to be shity
  • Enigma
ok so it looks like they have built this film around tekken 3 ( wonders if any one ells has seen that ring in any of the tekken games I know I have not) i am a huge HUGE tekken fan and who the hell is jin kazama kissing please the guy is to fu** up to fall in love he is a devil after all tsk! and what the hell have they done with brian fury god the guy looks like Gipsy with a over dose of brill cream yup they have ruined the movie just like they ruined DBZ the movie they need these type of movies to be made by fans for the fans just like metal gear solid now that is going to be cool i will go and see the movie with an open mind but i am not expecting to be blown away peace out oh and p.s the story line is really deep if you have play 1/7 that is counting in tekken tag ()AND YOU KNOW THIS MAN!()

    when is it coming out?
  • M. Allan Prince
Are people seriously having aneurysms over a trailer? You have not seen the movie, yet. There's a saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover," and in this case, "don't judge a movie by its trailer."

Let's look at some facts here, alright?

America hadn't really come out of its shell and capitalized on martial arts movies since, what, the mid to late 90's? Thanks to some such as The Matrix, Shanghai Noon, The One, and just about any other movie created in the past 15 years that showcased massive martial art talents, this can prove to be a great addition to its genre (video game-to-live adaptation).

The movie features a cast that look almost identical to their video game counterparts. Do we honestly care if voices are right on the dot? Or are we more inclined towards appearance? I'd bet on the latter. Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li may have been horrible, but it did give one thing... independence and high-hopes for future movies of the same genre. I believe that Mortal Kombat cemented that ideal concept.

You just have to be patient and understand that by today's standards, we expect the best of everything. We know for a fact that we'll have hits and misses, but is there any truth to badmouthing films? It doesn't get us anywhere, nor does it make the movies better.

Tekken has a small story, and within itself, a bigger story. Characters come together and fight in a tournament. Fans of the game know that the game revolves around Kazuya, Jin, and Heihachi. From that point of view, we can discern whether the movie will stick with what story we know from the video game. And hey, it does. It even expands on the idea.

Sure, Martial Law and Yoshimitsu are in it, as well as a whole bunch of characters from the game, but does that mean they need more screen time than what the story actually depicts? Think about running time and script size, cost of production, etc. Perhaps there might be a sequel? Or hell, a prequel?
  • M. Allan Prince
    Also, forgot to add this...

The game's fighting engine wasn't all that fast. It was, and it wasn't. I'd call it "normal speed," and comparing it to the film's trailer could insinuate a bad judgment. Who knows? They could have dumbed it down and slowed it just to show what kind of martial arts they're portraying? It's choreographed, so it has that touch of "fake" to it -- especially for the trailer.

Remember, these guys and gals are true martial artists, specifically chosen and granted the opportunity to live out their experiences through the movie.

    ---------

I, for one, am going to see it. I never saw the Chun-Li or DB Evolution movie in theaters -- but Tekken I will, simply out of love for the game. Hot chicks, hot guys, real martial artists, kickass game. Come on, people!

He's asian and french, and a practitioner of wu-shu. Anyway, I was looking forward to the movie, but after seeing the trailer I have doubts now. I think that Namco Jpn should have made this into a CG animated movie. The people over at Square Enix Jpn made a Final Fantasy 7 CG movie, and the people over at Capcom Jpn made a Resident Evil CG movie. The characters from both those movie were the actual characters that we played from the PS the games, and both those movie were great including the games. Now why can't Namco get it's people to work on a full-length Tekken animated movie (not counting the 2D one from 1997) ? Come on Namco/Bandi. If gaming companies such as Capcom and Square Enix can make a animated CG movie based on their property, then yous people over at Namco/Bandi of Japan can do it too.

I've been watching this 30 times now and, while I was expecting this to be one of the greatest movies ever made, I was still STUNNED. How could they turn a piece of crap like the Tekken game into something as cool as this?

I would appreciate if everybody stopped crying, I just cannot understand the problem. But I think people's opinions should change after they actually see the movie. Until then..
