Robin Hood International Trailer #1

Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

A week ago, we saw the first trailer for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. Now we’ve got an international version, and it omits the silly and inappropriate rock soundtrack heard in the domestic cut. Instead, this clip offers up a bit more story and a set of dueling speeches, one condemning Robin Hood (Russell Crowe) and one in which the outlaw rallies either a band of men or another leader. If this version of the trailer doesn’t do much to dispel the notion that the film may be Gladiator in a forest, it does show off more of the picture’s scope.

While the domestic trailer made the film look a lot like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, only with more grit and less romance, we can now see a hint of the historic scope that Ridley Scott has promised from the start. There are the expected bits with Robin Hood and his outlaw band in Sherwood Forest, but then we also see some of the beach assault that pits the hero against a different force.

While I’m not yet convinced by the footage, the real attraction for me is some of the cast. I’ll watch Mark Strong in anything; same for Cate Blanchett. And I’d like to see what Kevin Durand will do as Little John. That could be fun.

Here’s some of the official synopsis:

Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Cate Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.

they should have stuck with the original idea of having robin hood as the "bad guy" and the sheriff as the "good guy".....

now we just have yet another robin hood production. just looks flat, bland and forgettable.

in all honesty ridley has barely made a decent movie since 1982. so i dont hold much hope for this.

    Needs more Christian Slater

    Um,

How is he a crusader if he comes "from his service in King Richard’s army against the French"? But that just might be me being historically inept, so do carry on.

Weren't archers pretty much the most detested part in any army? As in "cowardly scum that is not brave enough to go mano a mano"? How does being an expert archer translate to being a formidable warrior?

How is Robin Hood in that trailer not Maximus from Gladiator? Can someone explain that detail to me, again, please?

oh MAN! you remake Robin Hood you want him to be young and hot! not Russell Crowe... :(
Otherwise you're just making a poor mans Prince of Thieves.
    Fail Ridley Scott, fail.
  • Michael
It has nothing on the Prince of Thieves.
  • Alejandra Fitzsimons
    I've seen much worse though
  • evilninjax
I'm a bit put off by this to tell the truth. It feels like too much a big action piece. I guess I never thought of Robin Hood being an out-and-out battle movie as was shown at the end. The last Robin Hood that has stuck in my mind was the book with the Mike Grell art and so that visually and emotively has sat in my head and this movie doesn't mesh at all with it.

Yeah it definitely felt like Gladiator in the woods.
  • whsmith
    Russel Crowe: Prince of Gladiators.
  • Steve_Kasan
Now this is more like it!
If you are not pumped up to see this film after this trailer then, in the words of Arthur king of the Brittans in Holy Grail...you make me sad.

This looks amazing, I expect a huge 3 hour epic from this Ridley! No 90 or 100 minutes bullshit, go epic or go home.
  • nindie
Nice accent Crowe! Looks like Blanchett gets to do what she didn't in LOTR and get medieval on someones ass ala Eowyn!
  • ChrisM
Again, Scott should have simply based this on Parke Godwin's "Sherwood". Doing anything else is a waste of time.
  • Much better than the first trailer. I didn't care about the rock music; what I didn't like was that it seemed like a trailer for Generic Badass Action Movie, not a Robin Hood movie. In this one you actually see some Robin Hood stuff, as opposed to...random guys fighting a lot.
  • There are gonna be so many people leaving the theatre thinking they just saw a true story.
  • The Great Cambino
Yeah, I thought that about A Beautiful Mind. Boy was I wrong.
  • This looks decent.
    A solid movie. Nice.
  • fanboy_d
So much better than the first trailer, glad they dropped that rock music, don't know what they thought they were doing with that (making Ridley Scott look like Louis Leterrier...)

Love Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven and this essentially looks like a Gladiator/Kingdom of Heaven mash-up so I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

And I'm cool with Marian being an Action Girl (very cool with it actually), but the suit of armor seemed a bit much.
  • Steve_Kasan
"(making Ridley Scott look like Louis Leterrier...)"
    Haha, so true.

Marian in armor is not that bad. Better having Blanchett in battle gear than Orlando Bloom in armor I say.

i like this trailer more than the first. really looking forward to it.

    Looks silly.

Were you looking at a mirror?
  • Dr_Gonzo
    No Yo Mamma.
  • droog
how many times can ridley scott make the same movie?
  • Liam
    ^-- This.
  • GingerBreadMan
Not convinced of the footage? His last two historical epics were Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut), arguably two of the best movies of the last 10 years. I am sure this movie will turn out just fine.
  • Did Robin Hood fight with an arrow through his right testicle too?
  • A line from Godfrey (Liam Neeson) in Kingdom of Heaven LOL
  • doobers
    ha ha ha...movie references
  • Han
    A lot better!

And sorry Kevin that Ridley doesn't appeal to your exclusive tastes but this looks great.
  • josh
    where's kevin costner?
  • MickJ
    Working on his accent.
  • LOL...

Kevin Costner's Robin Hood has been and most like will be the best robin Hood movie...
  • Kevin
I hated both trailers, quite honestly.
  • jrice73
Love it! Didn't see the first trailer as I was told to avoid it, but this new one works. Good to see Russell and Ridley back together again.
  • The Great Cambino
I really want this to be good.
  • ScanCase
yeah this trailer is alot better. I hope the movie is as good as scott's other period pieces.
