    A) David Chen... you... should stop fucking around and watch Firefly. And pretty much any other show Devindra and Adam tell you to watch. Like Mad Men if I recall correctly. But fuck Lost.

    B) Anne Thompson was great, really added to the show. Glad to see her getting along so well with everyone, even if it is not always in full agreement. Ever notice how episodes are kind of lame when everyone loved the shit out of a movie? Yawn. If I recall correctly, see the ep where A Serious Man is discussed. AMAZING film, one of (if not THE) best films of 09 and the review was kind of boring because everyone loved it so much.

    C) Sucks that Invictus wasn't very good, I wasn't expecting it to be very good anyways, but its still a shame. Funny how much a lackluster ending can ruin a movie. Also, this is some obvious bias on my part of course, but who knew sports could be so hard to dramatize and shoot?

Anne really added alot to this week's episode, Guys. Very informative, thoughtful, and intelligent. Have her back on often :)

It was in The Return of the King when Gollum talks to his reflection in the water. The reason you were thinking TTT is probably cause he talks to himself in that movie, as well, in a probably more famous scene-- but in that one, he just turns to the left and right with the shot cutting each time to goes between Gollum and Smeagol.

Anne was a good guest again but next time she's on I'd like to see her come under fire from some of Dave's trademark lovable ribbing. She's tough enough, she can handle it.
  • Great episode guys. I totally agree with Adam about Bad Lieutenant (my review is here, although I didn't really articulate my appreciation as well as Adam: http://controlex.wordpress.com/2009/12/10/revie...). Nic Cage is bad-motherfucking-ass.

I don't think Peter Dinklage and Penelope Cruz have ever or will ever be compared to each other again! Nice Work Devindra!

    Umm spoiler warning guys please?
Just cause you knew someone would get annoyed
  • I put a spoiler warning at the beginning of the episode, right after our sponsor message.
  • Good show guys. I have to say that it seemed like you were a little soft on Invictus. This film was so full of cliches, slow mo shots, and unnecessary garbage I almost couldn't take it. I went into this film hoping that it would be good but also anticipated the oscar bait. I was so let down. It seems like there was a good movie in there somewhere but it was lost in Eastwood's lousy directing choices. I would almost say that this film was hurt by how big the budget was. The soundtrack was terrible and so many of the shots were overdone. I see what Eastwood was going for but nothing about this film, other than Freeman delivered with this film. I will agree that he was excellent as Mandela. Also what was about the stupid fly-over scene? It seemed so out of place an unnecessary. Ok I will shut up now. I guess working at a movie theater and hearing old people praise this and The Blind Side all day really augments how much I didn't enjoy these movies.

Ok so i wasn't gonna read any reviews until I see the movie tomorrow night but i just read yours and stand corrected. In this week's podcast it sounded like you had more negative little things to say about Avatar (i.e. dialogue, plot) than positive. Oh well, I guess I'll find out for myself when I see it tomorrow night. Still very excited! Nice review btw lol

Hey great show you guys. I'm really looking forward to next weeks Avatar review considering some of you loved it and others *ahem Chen* disliked it.
Anyways! so i checked out Anne's popular mechanics interview with Cameron and thought it was the best interview with Cameron yet. It's super tech-geeky and you can tell he's really into it too. Still iffy about Invictus but im sure it's a good movie just not sure if i'll pay $12 to see it in theaters. Great show this week.
  • I hope you're joking about me disliking it. Because if you're not, then you're being ridiculous. Did you even read my review?

I'm sure you've heard this a lot, but watch Firefly, Dave. I just forced my girlfriend to sit through the whole series (we finished with Serenity today) and while I practically had to tie her down at first, by the end she was totally hooked. It's one of the best shows I've ever seen.
  • davechenfan
Dave, i respect your opinion, and im not an avatar fanboy or anything (havent even seen the movie yet!!!) but i dont get it when people say that a movie has terrible dialogue. i mean, why is it terrible? is it the way the actors say the words, or that what they are saying doesnt make any sense?

and if so, what are some movies that are considered to have 'amazing' dialogue?
  • jmusheno
You guys should get Thompson on here more often. She keeps Dave in check.
  • jacob
Is there no afterdark for last weeks episode?
  • jimbo134
    Jason reitman duder
  • You got two hours with Jason Reitman, hush your mouth ;) That After Dark ep will show up at some point when we need to take a break.

    "...gush about Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant,"

Whaaat? Did somebody make a typo? Maybe you meant "tush about Bad Lieutenant", as in everybody said it was ass? The trailer looked like tush. The marketing campaign and all still pictures made the film look like tush. Weren't you the same guys laughing when the remake was announced, that the whole concept smelled like tush?

you guys are killing me lately. I've been busy so I haven't been able to see any new movies the past couple weeks and I don't like to listen unless I get to listen to all of it. I'm going to have a lot of catching up to do. And Bad Lieutenant is freakin awesome. Especially any scene that involves the smoking of crack.
