Philip Seymour Hoffman's Jack Goes Boating
Philip Seymour Hoffman makes his directorial debut with Jack Goes Boating, which premieres at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival as part of the Premieres category. Written by Bob Glaudini, the story follows a stoner limo driver who looks for different ways to improve his skill-set as a way to attract a girlfriend, and goes on a blind date, which “sparks a tale of love, betrayal, friendship, and grace centered around two working-class New York City couples.” Hoffman also stars in the romantic comedy, alongside Amy Ryan, John Ortiz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Tom McCarthy. This started out as an off-Broadway play that I'm pretty sure he had a hand in producer, as well as starring in, a few years ago. Though I could be thinking of something else.

I'm excited to see it as a film.

Truly an amazing actor; haven't been disappointed yet. That said, he exudes an unparalleled pretentiousness (in interviews) that makes me think he's difficult to work with, which would be magnified if he were on both sides of the camera.
  • What can be seen as pretentiousness could just be pride in his work.
