wizarding-world-of-harry-potter

It had to happen eventually. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will debut next spring at Universal’s “Islands of Adventure” park in Orlando, and the recent release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on DVD and Blu-ray offers a sneak peek at the park’s offerings. Attractions Magazine has a full list of the details, and some of the more interesting ones can be found after the break.

You’ll be able to buy a butterbeer, which looks just like a real beer with the froth on top, but it’ll be non-alcoholic. J.K. Rowling was at a butterbeer tasting and loved it. Steve Jayson, executive chef with Universal Parks and Resorts said, ‘The flavor of this is great, real comforting, nice and smooth going down - and you get a mustache.’

The Flight of the Hippogriff ride (family friendly coaster) will center around The Care of Magical Creatures Class. Hagrid will give instructions on how to properly behave and approach a hippogriff. You’ll need to keep eye contact, bow and it will bow back. Then you can get on the ride.

Hogwart’s Castle will feature the queue to the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride. The queue will feature a lot of moving portraits and will take you by or through the Defense of the Dark Arts room, the Common Room and the Great Hall.

Basically, the theme park seems like a dream come true for young Potter fans—although I wonder if they’ll also cater to the series older fans as well. As is usually the case with these parks, most of the lead actors have filmed extra scenes for the rides. In addition to the sets mentioned above, many areas from the series will be fully recreated at the park—including the Three Broomsticks restaurant, Honeydukes Sweetshop, and Ollivander’s Wand Shop.

I’m surprised it took so long to put this park together, but I suppose Universal had to wait until the movies came to a close to arrange all of the details. It’s not the sort of thing that I’d be rushing to Orlando for, but I’m sure it’ll make many Potter fans out there wet their pants with excitement. (I’m desperately hoping that just applies to the kids.)

You can check out a preview of Half Blood Prince’s sneak peek (a preview of a preview, I know) at the park below:

i had already booked my reservations for Feb 28-March 7 2010 since they had said it would open last year in december 09 and I'm just hoping that it will be open when I go cause with my job I can't just rearrange my vacation. My son will be so disappointed and me too.

I am 16 and live in a group home, but, trust me when it opens, I will have the funds and go to the park. I grew up with Harry Potter and he IS my childhood hero. I WILL go to the theme park. Just wish I didn't have so many setbacks to stop me. Regardless, you will see me there. :)

Yeah... well I'm 32 and practically peeing my pants over this and I don't care what anyone thinks about it.

I've committed to going opening day. That's one thing I love about being an adult Potter fanatic, I don't have to beg anyone to take me. Unfortunately there's no set date yet. I called Universal Studios yesterday and asked if they're doing vacation packages for opening day even though a date isn't nailed down and they said no. My plan is to have the money budgeted so that the day something is announced I can scoop up my tickets before they're gone. The good news is that I haven't missed my window of opportunity.

The moment I have a pint of butterbeer will be the moment my life will be complete.
  • They should freaking cater to the young kids. "Serious" older fans can either deal with the fact they are "serious" about a kids book series or move on to something that is actually serious and adult.
  • I was kind of hoping for at least one really exciting roller coaster...

I go to the high school across the street from Islands Of Adventure. We're the only high school in the world that can see Hogwarts Castle from our commons (the towers are already up).

Damn, I'm gonna have to check this out one day.

I lived in Florida when i was in my late teens and early twenties and Islands of Adventure was probably when of the best things to do. I am not ashamed to admit that being in my late twenties now, this still sounds like a lot of fun. Islands of Adventure is probably the only thing I miss about that awful state.

that spider-man ride is worth a trip to florida alone. that, and the fact that the lines for the Hulk coaster will be an hour and a half long, but there's no one in the single riders line.

Despite it only being one section of Islands of Adventure, this has Disney crapping their pants. It will be a huge draw.

    It does? Says who?

Being 21 will be no reason to not go see this. Bummer I'll be in Orlando this Christmas though, and not in the Spring.

    I want me a butterbeer.

Sadly i'm 19 and i'll be rushing off to visit it the moment i can. 10 years and the Pottermania in me is still as strong as ever.

same. i'm 18 and got into the books in 5th grade cause my sister was reading them. it's really something when you're the same age as a character and you kind of feel like you grow up with them.
  • About the same here - I'm 22. I grew up with these books, read the first when I was about the same age as Harry. Seeing it in "real life" will be really special.

I was on the backlot at Universal recently, and there was a group of crew members in Harry Potter shirts pushing around the wrecked car that Ron and Harry fly to Hogwarts in
  • presto117
i'm gonna guess that you mean at universal orlando? cause if you mean hollywood...... i'm grabbing my keys and finding that car.

I'm soo in. Been waiting for spring ever since the park was first announced and it seemed like it would take forever to get here. A few friends of mine live in FL and we've already made plans for me to fly down from MD and we're all gonna go. It's sure to be chaotic.. wonder if the actors or J.K. Rowling will be there to cut the ribbon or whatnot.

same here. I was up one morning going through my (old) usual sites, and i just happened to stumble upon mugglenet.com (i think) right at the storke of midnight, so literally just as they announced it, so i'm right up there with you.
