Greg Mottola Reviews Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

In October, Juno/Up in the Air director Jason Reitman tweeted a mini-review of an early cut of Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which he called “a game changer for Edgar and the genre” and “the first all encompassing film of the joystick generation.” Now Adventureland/Superbad director Greg Mottola has also seen the film, and has posted a mini-review on Twitter.

Be very jealous of me. I’ve seen an entire cut of SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. Edgar Wright has made a classic (again)! It’s amazing. … I would say that Scott Pilgrim is the wittiest action movie you’ll ever see, but that’s just the half of it. … Needless to say, Michael Cera is perfect. In fact, every single performance is incredible. You’ve got something special to look forward to. … The filmmaking is so insanely good, I retired halfway through the movie. (looking forward to the pension checks, tho)

Sounds like another rave review.

*It should be noted that both Reitman and Mottola are friends with Wright, hence how they were able to see an early cut of the film.

I still really doubt Michael Cera will be good. They needed a star, and he's like.. the only "teen" star out there really.

Michael Cera is very funny, but he can ONLY be the nervous shy kid and so I'd prefer it if he stuck to original roles, because most characters who aren't created specifically for him have more personality traits than nervous and shy. He just can't pull off more than that.

    personally - cant wait!

It should also be noted that both Greg Motolla and Jason Reitman have worked with Michael Cera before.
  • I don't know, if they didn't like the movie they could have just not said anything about it. It's not like it's public knowledge that Edgar's screening it for his friends right now, their silence wouldn't be telling.
  • Fantastic, this is pretty high up on my can't-wait-to-see-flicks for next year. I wonder which will come out first: volume 6 or the movie?

Also, hence how they would have given it a rave review even if it was Alien vs. Predator 3.

I really hope this gets everyone off Micahel Cera's back. Idk, maybe no matter how awesome Scott Pilgrim is, or awesome Cera is in it, he'll always have haters, but I'm optimistic that his performance will be great. By the way, HUGE fan of the comics
  • Oh, Edgar Wright. Swoon. Can't wait.

This is my most anticipated film for 2010. This review makes me more eager than ever to see it, even though the last part of the film is not from the comics and supposedly ridiculous. Good to hear someone likes Michael Cera in this.

All I know is that McClain's hot daughter from Live Free, Die Hard is on this movie. Therefore, I shall see it.

My God, I would hit that with the force of a thousand angry God fists.

    Delicious Mew...

Greg Mottola and Jason Reitman I will venture to say did not read the comic.

who cares if they did'nt read the comic if it is a good movie it is a good movie
  • wtf
This was in reference to Michael Cera being a terrible choice for the role, from readers of the comic. Not a slight against either of those directors.

You're the type of person that wouldn't make it to the end of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. You'd get about half way until you decided to drink the fizzy lifting drink and, unlike Charlie, you'd never find out about the burping.

    *Chop chop chop*

Scott Pilgrim comic is the very essence of FTW. Shut the hell up.

So when the movie releases all over, only the ones who have read the comic are supposed to see it? Since they have a higher learning of the comic book? It's a movie. It's been made to cater to the larger audience who have never even heard of the comic book. Try making a valid point before posting. If Reitman and Mottola liked the movie without reading the comic book, it makes sense to say that it is a good MOVIE.

This is a movie, not a comic book.
  • That's really surprising. I totally thought Michael Cera was a horrible choice when I heard he was going to be Scott Pilgrim. Ya know, just going by the comic.

Brian Lee O'Malley has already stated that Cera was one of his top choices for who to play the character (Though he didn't have any true pull, from what I know)
  • Tetsuo_Man
Maybe he hasn't read the comic...

I am very very very skeptical that Michael Cera even has the facial muscles to pull off S.P's super-grin. He just comes off to nervous whereas nervousness is just one of S.P's lovingly adorable traits.

I can Not fucking wait for this film. Edgar Wright's directing/editing seems to fit the sensibilities of the comics perfectly.
