The Lovely Bones
Dreamworks Pictures has released a new theatrical movie poster and two new video clips from Peter Jackson’s big screen adaptation of The Lovely Bones .

Based on the critically acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, and directed by Oscar® winner Peter Jackson from a screenplay by Jackson & Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens, “The Lovely Bones” centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal. Also, Harry Knowles at Aint It Cool News has the first reivew of the film. Here is an excerpt:

This is an incredibly lovely film. From the visuals to the performances to the story-telling and film work… It all goes to capture a very powerful story in a way that makes you want to hug those close to you… This is an incredibly powerful film, masterfully told and captured as only cinema in the hands of a consummate storyteller can tell it. LOVELY BONES will be one of the films of the year.

Sounds like a rave to me. The Lovely Bones hits some theaters on December 11th 2009.

Harry Knowles is a retard with no ethics...his reviews are very biased.
  • This movie is going to rock...I love King!!
  • I'm a little worried about "The Lovely Bones" because I hear that Jackson reshot the death scene -- something about audience members saying it was "not violent enough." There's something to be said for listening to your audience, but Jackson has decent instincts as a director.

That said, I do look forward to this film based solely on my undying love for "Heavenly Creatures," Jackson's first motion picture. With "King Kong" and the "Lord of the Rings" films out there in pop culture, people tend to forget he can make other movies and make them well.

He didn't entirely reshoot the death scene. He added a bit more violence in post. It really doesn't sound like a big deal.

And Heavenly Creatures as his first movie? Think you're forgetting a couple of things.
  • Sam L.
Heavenly Creatures isn't his first movie. He made three fantastic (and fairly well-known) movies in New Zealand before it.

    Bad Taste, baby!

I like that poster. I like the overall goofy/naive look, for a allegedly very dark movie (in tone, at least). I don't like the fact that Marky Mark is involved but what are you gonna do -- strange choice, Peter. Strange choice.
  • It was Ryan Gosling but rumor has it he didn't want to do what Peter Jackson asked
  • [A]
    Really? Silly Gosling, then.

doesn't she get raped/murdered right after that? (or is it just murdered?) i dunno. I really can't find any want to see this.
  • Harry Knowles gave a movie a rave? Noooooo.
  • clarencesomerset
Looks like Saoirse Ronan is going to be a really accomplished actress ...
  • Agreed ... she is well on her way.
  • why can i not connect via facebook?

Did anyone else find the music in the first clip reminiscent of "The More You Know" commercials?
  • Brian
I really hope Stanley Tucci gets recognition for this film. Yeah he gets some, but not nearly enough because he is a greatly talented actor. Great 2 clips.
