Universal Soldier: Regeneration Movie Trailer

Universal Soldier: Regeneration

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has released a trailer for the upcoming Jean-Claude Van Damme / Dolph Lundgren movie Universal Soldier: Regeneration.

With stolen top-secret technology, terrorists have created a next-generation Universal Soldier - an elite fighter genetically altered into a programmable killing machine. With this “UniSol” (Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski) leading the way, they seize the crippled Chernobyl nuclear reactor, threatening to unleash a lethal radioactive cloud. The only one who can stop them is Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), a UniSol who’s been decommissioned for years. Reactivated and retrained, Deveraux must make a full-out assault on the heavily armed fortress. But inside, he’ll discover not one but two of these virtually indestructible warriors. Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), Deveraux’s vicious UniSol enemy from the original Universal Soldier, has been secretly reanimated and upgraded. Now, these elite fighters are locked, loaded and programmed to kill; and the fate of millions hinges on this high-action showdown.

Directed by John Hyams (NYPD Blue),  filmed for $15 million and going direct-to-dvd. The movie premiered at Fantastic Fest 2009, and was met mostly with positive reviews from the genre crowd. Watch the trailer after the jump, and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Universal Soldier: Regeneration hits DVD and Blu-ray on February 2nd, 2010.

Can't believe Van Damme turned down the expendables for this...
  • Twisted
JCVD didn't turn down The Expendables for this. They shot both movies at a very different time of the year... and anyway Dolph Lundgren have a role in both movies.

According to IMDB «Jean-Claude Van Damme was offered a role, but he turned it down claiming that there was no substance in the character.»

    Haha, no substance...

    OH THE IRONY! :P

The action looks really weak. Hard to believe that the budget for this movie is the same as the budget for District 9.
  • Matthew
District 9 had a $30 m budget and an advantage of lower costs shooting in South Africa. This one has half the budget.
  • Twisted
+ The actors in District 9 can be paid with peanut butter. JCVD and Lundgren must want caviar on their toasts.
  • mbellerbrock
I think you meant cat food.

i saw this at fantasticfest and was very pleased. the sound in this movie is absolutely amazing and there are definitely some badass kills throughout the film. i'd definitely suggest watching this if you get the chance

...And on the Seventh Day, God created the Universal Soldier. And lo, it was good.

Then God said, "I must break you", and it was made so.

Then Moses said unto thy UniSols, 'Let my people go...straight-to-DVD." And alas, it was done

I would have preferred to see Lundgren and Van Damme team up in this one. Two older UniSols versus the "next gen". That would've been bad ass.

But Lundgren was shredded in the first one and Van Damme was a human in the second. This series makes no god damn sense.
  • I was just about to say the same. Is Lundgren like T-1000 or smth?
  • Martin
    Maybe he's a clone :D
  • Expendables + this in 2010? my head just exploded.. i cannot wait to get this bad boy on bluray
  • Chris
    Ricockulous.

I read all the comments here. A first for me.

Lol, usually I get about half way down and just give up.

Wow, I hadn't even heard of this. It definitely looks better than all of the other sequels but does the whole movie take place in one location because that's the vibe I got from the trailer? I dig the whole winter setting though, shit they should have called it Universal Soldier: Chernobyl as Regeneration makes it sound like a Resident Evil movie. I'll check it out. At least it looks like it's trying to take itself seriously, which I respect.
  • I can't wait to see this. Yeah, it would have been great to have Van Damme in The Expendables.
  • rcesm
    I shall rent it.

This trailer looks like a work(ing) copy.

A soldier going straight on, not even trying to avoid the bullets - it's so 80s, unrealistic and stupid.
  • mike
This was actually a really fun action flick...much better than the turd of a second one.
