Season of the Witch Movie Trailer

Season of the Witch

Last month, Lionsgate released a special 30-second Halloween teaser trailer for Dominic Sena’s supernatural thriller Season of the Witch which had us scratching our heads. Sena is best known as the director of fun but disposable action films like Gone in Sixty Seconds, Swordfish and the recent comic book adaptation Whiteout, and I had heard great things about Brian Schut’s script… But the teaser looked like a direct-to-dvd Dark Castle production. The new trailer gives us a much better idea of what to expect, and somewhat raised expectations. Watch the trailer for yourself after the jump, and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

The film stars Nicolas Cage as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Ron Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague.

“A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Claire Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence. A priest (Stephen Campbell Moore), a grieving knight (Ulrich Thomsen), an itinerant swindler (Stephen Graham) and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight (Robert Sheehan) join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl. When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.”

I believe i just saw the whole movie, beginning, middle and end in just that trailer.
  • Really cause I'm still trying to figure out what the hell it's about!
  • Yet another paycheck for Cage. That's all he does nowadays is take paychecks.

Seriously, I beg of you, Cage, pick a good script and give it your all. You have talent. We all saw that in Lord of War and Adaptation. Try to actually give a damn about what you're doing for once.

    Lord of War was awesome.

    Two words: Bad Lieutenant.

the guy's in like millions and millions of dollars worth of debt. cut him some slack for taking a paycheck--he needs it. and so what if nick cage wants to sell out for a lot of money. can we really fault him for trying to get paid?
  • My friend just saw Bad Lieutenant. Said, and I quote "Bad Lieutenant is awful, Herzog's worst movie since Even Dwarfs Started Small"

Looks like a fun movie to watch though nothing I really want to waste my money on in theaters. I will just wait for it to arrive on Netflix.

Why the fuck is Nic Cage only in this trailer for like 5 seconds total?
  • Oh who cares about Cage? Ron Perlman is in it. It looks okay though, there aren't enough trashy medieval horror films made these days.
  • Benhamin NuNu Stein
Man... another movie that could have had a chance. I am still waiting for his head to start on fire or is this the Wicker Man prequel?

Nicolas Cage isn't even trying. It drives me crazy when a story obviously set in medieval Europe have American actors with American accents. I wish Cage would at least attempt to fake a European accent.
  • The thing that very few people seem to understand is that they didn't speak with the Modern English dialect in the middle ages, they spoke Middle English, which sounded as different from Modern English as American English does. Even if Cage were to put on a British accent it still wouldn't be historically correct.

Ron Perlman is going to make this movie. That guy in my opinion is the most underrated actor out there and he's awesome. Mutant Chronicles, In the Name of the King (worst film I've ever seen)...he was the only thing that gave us the ability to watch them all the way through. I definitely see him doing the same for this film. Haha how funny is that...Ron Perlman is essentially carrying a movie starring a ridiculously high paid and popular actor like Cage, and not getting enough credit for it!

I like Cage I really do, he has the ability but he doesn't show it enough.

    Feels like Van Helsing
  • greggorybasore
Well I'm just gonna soak up the awesome... Wow that looked cool as hell... even with Nicholas Cage
  • Angel
Anybody know the song at the end?
  • NoName7579
Hopefully after Kick-Ass Cage can get his career back, because this looks like poo.
