IGN UK has a new four minute featurette for James Cameron’s Avatar which focuses on the human sci-fi tech hardware contained in the film: From the cryogenic drawers that the humans are put in during transport to Pandora, to the oxygen masks that must be used while in the planet’s atmosphere, to the weaponry the humans must use to defend themselves against the creatures on the planet. It’s interesting to hear about the real logistical and scientific decisions behind the types of aircraft used on Pandora. And yes, they do talk about the big robotic mech AMP suits. Watch the clip embedded after the jump.

I just get more and more excited for Avatar with each new featurette. Nice find.

Wow. I can't wait to see it.

Haters and doubters will be eating their feet come December 18th.

    error?
  • freemachine
For those who get the "error", just follow the IGN UK link at the beginning of the paragraph. It works fine on their webpage.

    Link is dead.

    Awesome. Thanks.

Did I really hear the word "unobtainium" or am I going deaf? This is a serious question, I could be and -- hope I am -- wrong. Unless he was joking.

edit: Welp, googled it and apparently there IS unobtanium in AVATAR. Heh.
  • starscream9289
That's the little gray rock that sells for $20 million a kilo.
  • The Great Cambino
I know. But dude, UNOBTANIUM!? IT'S CALLED UNOBTANIUM!? That's fucking hilarious.
  • Isn't Unobtanium the totally indestructable material that the scientists used in THE CORE to drill to the center of the Earth?

So, with names like Pandora (my cool little internet radio friend), Na'vi (Link's fairy in the N64 Zelda is named Navi), and now Unobtanium (The Core!), I think James Cameron has the most original movie of the year!

(unless all these names were stolen via the leaked Spec Script)
  • snoochies
In the scriptment, Unobtainium is used as a joke by the people on planet cos its so hard to mine for, it does have a scientific name but i can't remember it!
  • Weyland_Yutani
very, very cool. Doesn't really seem that long ago when we had NOTHING from this film. Just looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. The AMP suits are awesome.

Although I like your comment, I really wanted to point out your awesome name, I'm surprised I haven't seen you before considering your 500 comments.

I am sure this movie is filled tons of actions and it’s gonna blow when people will watch it in 3d .The guns were really cool .Looks like James Cameron is back in his old style. After people watch this movie they will start to begin the hype the movie again which got lost because of it’s trailers.

I love Richard Taylor from Weta, he's a true magician.

I'm calling all dudes. We cannot let this stand. We most dethrone New Moon. This film is a piece of crap. A film with such horrible reviews, and just being boring doesn't deserve to make a $140 million box office. We most stop these tweens and stop them hard. We now HAVE to see Avatar when it comes out if the reviews are Good/Great. Yes, dudes no matter how you feel about Avatar we must destroy New Moon. AVATAR $145 million opening weekend!!!!!! Spread
