Is Peter Parker a Father in Spider-Man 4?

Spider-Man 4 Baby

It appears that Sony is on the search for a 2 year old Caucasian toddler with red hair for the upcoming comic book sequel Spider-Man 4. SpoilerTV has intercepted a casting notice for the film, which strangely only features one role, a character named “Toddler Boy”.

Here is the decription from the casting breakdown:

2 or 3 year old boy to play 2 year old, Caucasian with RED HAIR, an adorable toddler with an engaging personality, on set experience preferred. IDENTICAL TWINS ONLY

The fact that they are looking specificly for young boy with RED hair leds us to believe that the child will be of relation to Mary Jane (played in the series by Kirsten Dunst). By the time the fourth film is in theaters, it will have been four years since the last time we saw Peter Parker of MJ on the big screen. Could it be that they have since begun creating a family? Or is it possible that Mary Jane is somehow no longer with Peter, and has a child of her own? I don’t really have a background in the Spider-Man comic book cannon that would touch on any of these possibilities, so maybe some of our comic book expert readers can chime in.

I don't like where this is going.....The little faith I had in this movie is now dwindling
  • Dangeresquetoo
Welcome to the death of the franchise.
  • MadmanMundt
Emo spiderman already killed it. This is just embarrassing.
  • Me
The dancing spiderman with his emo haircut already done it
  • andre
    oh god this is terrible!!
  • CK
Maby a flashback scene of a young Cletus Kasady aka Carnage?
  • Young Cletus could be right, although Raimi isn't a fan of the symbiotes. I think Superman Returns shows that fans don't like it when they add kids in when there were no kids in the source material - although there was the Spider-Girl series which was Parker's daughter all grown up.

Not sure where they are going with the fourth installment if the kid is Peter's
  • CK
True. Maby its something simple like one of MJ's parents has a kid or maby a relative of MJ has a kid, leaves it with MJ and Peter for a while and as always.....fun insues....
  • pat
I'm praying this is it... but unfortunately... in an alternate time-line, Peter and MJ have a daughter May(spider-girl who is a young teenager) and a red haired BABY BOY Ben(called Benjy). He gets taken over by a mini version of the Carnage symbiote and it accelerates his power development so he's got them all as a baby. Not sure where it's gone from there since I don't really follow it but Peter and his daughter fear that due to the jump start, he's more powerful than both of them while still only a baby.

and there's your daily dose of comic cannon
  • Hickok
Well, that's no canon at all, since Spider-Girl is out of continuity.
In continuity stories, Peter and MJ's daughter was officially born dead, though the writers hinted that she might have been alive and kidnapped by Norman Osborn.
Or even better: the baby was supposed to be alive and believed dead by everybody, until Marvel decided to reboot the Spider-Man titles and the sub-plot was abandoned.
  • Jim
    I highly doubt he's a father.
  • Jim
And, I doubt Sam Raimi would be ok with this. He wants to improve the franchise after that not so good #3, and he knows this would be terrible. I have very high hopes for this movie.
  • I agree. You guys are forgetting that Raimi isn't a douche. This would be something that a douche would do.
  • existenz
That would be a horrible idea.
  • mattvidalis
Oh no! this is a really bad idea, i was really hoping for sth good with this movie, but if this rumour is true the movie is already doomed
  • CB
Maybe it's the sick kid in the hospital that Spider-Man comes to visit (and reveals his identity to) from the comics/animated series - though that kid was a bit older.

Otherwise it's Spider-Baby... and I don't think anyone wants another Superman Returns style Super-Hero dead beat dad.
  • henrik4075
    Spider-Baby? I smell a spin-off!
  • clarencesomerset
Why is it a bad idea? Spiderman as a geeky student has pretty much run its course - how much longer can he stay in school anyway? Making him a dad gives the man new responsibilities and fears. Plus, how many superheroes have kids anyway? My only concern is that the kid is used for comic relief.
  • Dan W
I think Peter Parker is smart enough not to have a kid while fighting crime. But maybe he's again put away his uniform and wants a normal life? But this seems too repetitive. I don't know what to make of it, but I don't know much about the spiderman comics
  • [A]
Well, that would suck. I guess Raimi didn't check Superman Returns (lucky him)
  • elliot
it's about time they start developing a story arc between the spiderman movies.
  • eddymovies
Well, according to early Spidey 3 reports, Sandman was supposed to have a 'villainous' family. That was just a huge misunderstanding, so I'll learn from experience with this. Maybe it's just another "Wicked cool!" reaction shot.
  • Me
    "Superman returns" all over again...
  • Barricade84
ENOUGH WITH THAT STUPID TEASER POSTER!! IT'S FAKE!!!
  • Grant
I seriously doubt that its Peter's kid. And not that they have much respect for the canon, but he never had a son.
  • Those of you who genuinely believe that Sam Raimi, or screenwriter James Vanderbilt, would give Mary Jane a kid do not know that Sam Raimi is a fan of the actual comic book on which these films are based. Don't believe speculations that bloggers of any caliber make. When there are facts, then make a decision. Sam Raimi is not a fool. He would not do this.

Also, Raimi didn't ruin SPIDER-MAN 3. Sony Pictures did when they forced him to put Venom into the film.
  • Sam Rami DID ruin Spiderman 3. For me anyway. I had much less problem with the Venom stuff than I did with the fact that they changed Sandman into the person who killed Uncle Ben. For all the hoopla over emo-peter, this was the real travesty of the film.
  • Reese
I have tremendous hope that Raimi will rebound after 3, so I hope this turns out to be a rumor or casting for someone else's kid.
  • zoey
    omg.
it obviously confirms the spiderman 4 villian = magical leprechauns.
  • zamboni
They wanted to do a lizard angle, the kid is for Curt Conner's son.
  • p86
leave it to peter to think of this dumb idea
  • Alejandro Rios
Introducing children of popular superheroes is a huge "NO". Remember Superman Returns... OMFG.
  • pat
they almost had a kid, but it was killed by the green goblin before mj could give birth. in an alternate time-line their daughter survived and fights crime with inherited spider powers, also peter parker lost a leg in that time-line, kinda weird
  • moviefan
I doubt they would have peter and mj have a child in the film series. Either it could be just a relative of mj's. Or maybe if there is another character in the film that has red hair, maybe cletus cassidy it could be a flashback to when said character was a child for what ever reason.
  • fanboy_d
It'd make sense if it was Curt Connors' kid. The fact that they want twins to play the same role must mean that the kid will only appear briefly, like, even less screentime than Gordon's son in The Dark Knight.
  • They want twins because toddlers are only allowed to work a very limited time during the day. If you get two kids who look identical you get twice the amount of time to work with that character.
  • Wickedrebel
Wrong. Actually it's the exact opposite. The entire reason for needing twins is that they can have DOUBLE the shooting time. Kids have very strict rules on film sets, and one of those rules is the amount of time they're allowed to work. If they have identical twins on set, then the first kid works his entire day's worth, they send him back home and bring in the other twin and continue working.

It's a very common practice. That's how the Olsen twins got started with 'Full House' back in the day. 2 actresses, one character.
  • fanboy_d
i know all about the twin/working hours thing. i just don't see a two year old taking up much time in a superhero movie. i figure they want twins so they can work for longer on the scenes, but that the scenes will ultimately be brief, otherwise they'd write an older kid that they could work with for slightly longer.
  • hmm
it's just a scene where spidey rescues the kid
  • Bahbahblacksheep
Agreed, thank you. You are intelligent. I hate all this drama over tiny casting roles, it's most likely an insignificant part in context of the whole movie.
  • solarguardian
Hahaha yeah this is probably the studio just making people go crazy for something not true.

Though I'm still waiting for the day we get a Mayday Parker/Spider-Girl movie with the Young Avengers in the distant future.
  • starscream9289
America fell in love with Superboy.

    And now, introducing Spider-Boy!
  • moviefan
I was just thinking if its not a kid for peter/mj(which i serious doubt). Or a relative of mj's, or even say a young kid for a flashback scene for a cletus cassidy if he was added into the film. What if its just for some random scene or two where spidey saves a kid from "X" villain or something like that.
  • zebrat
there's not gonna be any fucking spider-baby. relax. sheeeesh!
  • Max
Definitely is Curt Connor's son. He was a main part of the characters genesis and a constant target of the Lizard.
  • bray
    curts son is blonde.
  • mike lawson
I look less and less forward to this movie the more and more they spill about it. I hate the Spider-Man movie franchise.
  • Whatever it's for, it will be cool. It's Sam Raimi. I have total faith in Raimi. Spidey 4 is going to be great!
  • The_Kid
I like the idea of it being a relative of MJ's who Peter ends up having to watch him but also protect the city as Spiderman.
  • stephanieslocum
I think it's cute if Spiderman & MJ will be having a baby for the movie. Though I'm thinking since this is the 4th movie, is everything in the comics being shown in all the movies, or is the story being modified too?
