Movie Trailer: Adam Sandler’s New Comedy Grown Ups

Grown Ups
Columbia Pictures has released the teaser trailer for the new Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups. The film stars Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Maria Bello, Gary Busey and David Spade, and is directed by Dennid Dugan, the filmmaker behind of some of Sandler’s earlier films like Happy Gilmore and Big Daddy, but who recently has been responsible for some comic clunkers like I Now Pronouce You Chuck & Larry, and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.

Five friends and former teammates reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. With their wives and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier. Picking up where they left off, they discover why growing older doesn’t mean growing up.

It looks like a fairly generic comedy, even more so than the recent Sander efforts. Almost makes you wish that Sandler was still making second rate romantic comedies with Drew Barrymore again. You know, when they at least featured a few good jokes. And what is that on Kevin James’ face? That can’t be a beard, is it? Watch the full teaser trailer after the jump, and leave your thoughts in the comments ago.

Grown Ups hits theaters on June 25th 2010.

Have to admit, that cast alone makes me kinda wanna see it. Mostly the Chris Rock, Adam Sandler and Kevin James cast, not those other two.
  • Rob0729
Rob Schneider and David Spade are very talent. Granted their talent is being good enough suck asses to Adam Sandler so that he puts them in his movies since no one else will employ them.

Well, that isn't fair. Whenever someone has a crappy sitcom that they want to make even crappier, they do usually call Spade.

Spade peaked with his Hollywood Minute on SNL and Tommy Boy. Schneider peaked with his "You can do it. You can do it all night long" in Waterboy.

    yes very talent indeed borat
  • ralf
    Thanks for validating pointless filler.
  • DD
Saw it in a special screening, it is very funny. Worth it.
  • tricky808
honestly....I'll watch it....but i'm not excited about it....like when you make dinner plans a week in advance with your neighbors and then the night of you kinda just don't wanna go anymore...but you still do.
  • tyler
Apparently Norm Macdonald is in it too. I'll see it just for his (presumedly small) role. They should have made him one of the friends.
  • sanyo
Agreed. Norm Macdonald is easily the best out of any of those other five.
  • matthewwells
well this looks about as phoned in as it gets.
  • this might be just me, but i enjoy happy madison movies. i like the sappy ending they always have.
  • ralf
    ok. so you suck.
  • Yes. Thanks for reply

    =)

David Spade AND David Spade? Sign me up!
  • capawesome
    This looks dumb as hell

Rob Schneider in, "The Carrot." But Rob will find out, life as a carrot isn't easy......
  • goobity
    Fucking Stupid.
  • Well, they've hooked me on the cast, so....
  • freemachine
I can't tell who this film is aimed at. On one hand you've got some adult, Farrelly Bros. type humor (breast feeding, Schneider's wife). Then they toss in some generic physical comedy from Kevin James that looks designed to please Paul Blart fans. That last random shot of them laughing on the dock pretty much put the nail in the coffin IMO.

Awesome looks hilarious, the church scene was shot in Southborough MA!!
  • I knew after Funny People, Sandler would go back to making shit movies for the general public. That's the main reason I didn't like funny people, because I didn't believe Adam Sandler hated the awful movies he's made in the past.

Sad to see someone as talented as Chris Rock in another horrible looking film with Sandler and three of the unfunniest guys in hollywood. No interest in this film.
  • ajg1993
I'm willing to give it a chance based on the cast, but if Chris Rock doesn't get a line in the next trailer I'm going to have to assume that he's just the token "black friend," nothing more. If that's the case then this movie is surely doomed.

[I should preface this by saying it's entirely possible that Sandler had agreed to do Grown Ups a long time ago and everything I'm about to say may be moot.]

It seems like Sandler's decision to do Funny People over Inglourious Basterds last year may have guaranteed us more efforts like this.

I liked Funny People but that movie did not do very well at all, at the box office, and while Basterds is in a completely different category, it did some serious business. Maybe if you have another well-regarded hit in your back pocket rather than a critically-acclaimed, box-office disappointment... you don't do Grown Ups.

Then again, Sandler did give us plenty of similarly flat efforts in the last six years or so, anyway. Oh well.

I'm a Sandler/James/Rock fan but the trailer was very paint-by-numbers and even though it has nothing to do with the movie itself, the slow death of The Art of The Trailer Voiceover continues and really affected my perception of this flick.

I'm sooooo excited Adam Sandler iz the best! =] [=

One more time for the people at the back of the room; not quite sure they heard you.

Yea I don't get the release date either. I mean I know they start filming in May and probably finish up around late July or early August. But that doesn't mean they have to release the movie six or seven months later. I mean this has the makings of a summer comedy.

This is something straight off of one of Sandler's fictional movies on Funny People.

I seriously almost took this as a parody. And with the music they chose to play in the trailer, this film definitely seems aimed at an older crowd. Bob Segar?
  • frug
Kevin James may be a dumb fat guy but he is no Chris Farley no matter how many SNL alums they put in this movie.
  • greggorybasore
Dude that looks like a fun movie. Something in the same style as Wild Hogs, but maybe not as good. Still the cast alone equals win.

Oh by the way Peter Scrietta, no I don't wish Adam Sandler was still making date movies with Drew Barrymore because I'm not that much of a fan of her work. I like most of Sandlers Generic comedies because he obviously enjoys doing them and having fun with his friends. His more serious minded stuff like Punch Drunk Love and Funny People are good as well, but I think his real passion is making these generic by the numbers comedies.

"Dude that looks like a fun movie. Something in the same style as Wild Hogs, but maybe not as good."

    wtf guy?
  • greggorybasore
I'm not your guy buddy.... (said in a canadian voice).

Seriously though whatta ya mean wtf? The sentence is pretty clear. This movie strikes me as something in a similar vein to Wild Hogs
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486946/
which I thought was one of the best comedies of 2007. It's another movie about a bunch of old friends who have known each other since child hood and now as adults are still acting in much the same way. I don't think Wild Hogs had the "Getting back together after not hanging out for years" element and I'm not sure if the characters were child hood buddies or met during their adult lives.

Still it's one of those generic movies that made me laugh my ass off and the teaser for the movie Grown Ups strikes me as something that might make me laugh for the same reasons. I don't necessary think it will be better than Wild Hogs, but it's just a teaser. Once I see the movie I'll know for sure.

Is there anything else that needs explaining?
  • Two David Spades are better than one.
  • mackins2ez
This has great potential. Funny cast and all. Anyone seen Grandma's Boy? Pointless movie, trailer didn't make it seem great.... but for me, it turned out to be one of the funniest movies in a long time, even better than Step Brothers.
  • Kevin-fan
Another trailer would be nice to see. This trailer would not make me go to see it in the movies.
  • donivan
