Date Night Teaser Trailer

Date Night

There have been a bunch of movie trailers to hit over the last 24 hours: Clash of the Titans, Kick-Ass, and now 20th Century Fox has released the first teaser trailer for the Action romantic comedy Date Night. The film stars Tina Fey and Steve Carell as Claire and Phil Foster, as a bored married couple’s attempt at a glamorous and romantic evening into something more thrilling and dangerous due to a case of mistaken identity.

The Fosters are a typical suburban couple whose lives – including their weekly date nights of dinner and a movie – have become routine. To reignite the marital spark, they visit a trendy Manhattan bistro where a case of mistaken identity turns their evening into the ultimate date night-gone-awry. But as Claire and Phil take their unexpected walk on the wild side, they begin to remember what made them so special together.

Judging from the trailer, this is just what we would expect from Night at the Museum/Pink Panther helmer Shawn Levy. A couple mild jokes, an obvious storyline and a flurry of cameos and small supporting performances from actors/actresses you know (like Mila Kunis, Leighton Meester, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Kristen Wiig, and Ray Liotta). If you look closely near the end of the trailer, you might even see Olivia Munn, of G4 Attack of the Show fame. And what is up with Wahlberg’s Minority Report/Iron Man-style futuristic computer set-up? Seems a bit too much for this movie, doesn’t it?

Fox is betting on this film to be an early summer comedy, but it will face some heavy superhero competition, going head to head with The Losers, and the next week Kick-Ass and Machette. Watch the trailer after the jump, and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

This actually looks pretty good, might go see it when it comes out.

I had higher hopes for this movie...but I will still see it out of love for Tina Fey and Steve Carell. I feel obligated that they give me 22-26 episodes of free funny a year...It's the least I could do.
  • donivan
Looks good for a chuckle.Wouldn't be a total waste of money or time, but only for a one time show with a date who knows the cameos.
  • sammyjankis
Yeesh, you guys are rolling out the trailers this week.
  • GabeJa
    heaping pile a meh
  • I'll watch anything with Tina Fey. she is a GODDESS
  • Honestly, I expected better from Carell and Fey. Both are funny in the trailer, but both also seem as if they're lacking energy. Plus, it looks like it's going to give us some really really cheap jokes. I'll still see it, but it looks like it's missing something.
  • I got to be honest, I was expecting a lot more from Tina Fey and Steve Carell if this movie was staring anyone else but them I wouldn't even consider seeing it in a theater based on that trailer.
  • Name
WAIT. Are they being chased by the McPoyles?
  • nolacuse
One of them at least, yes. That was my very first thought the moment I saw him too.
  • headmonkeys
Holy crap am I getting tired of Steve Carell's constant yelling as a source of comedy. Is that all the man can do? Although Fey is awesome, and it's nice to see Wahlberg in a comedy, but I do predict main cringe inducing moments.
  • RosanatorDA
i pressed like, then regretted doing so. i totally disagree about carell and his yelling. watch the office.
  • headmonkeys
Oh I agree. The Office is great, but he does MORE in that. And there are of course other characters to balance out all the different comedy styles. I should have put in a disclaimer about how my 'yelling' comment applied to the majority of his films and not The Office.

Forget Carell and Fey. Any movie that gives me a McPoyle brother is a must see. haha!
  • Aaron
Looks ok, I wish they didn't use Nickelback "music".
  • A little disappointed, but I doubt the mediocrity is from Fey and Carell, probably the writers. Anyone else really dislike the music in the trailer.
  • dagreenman18
the premise itself is meh, but there are enough very talented people in this movie to give me faith that it will be good.
  • Reese
Gotta go with the consensus: great cast, alright-looking movie. Love Carell and Fey so I hope the movie's good.

Saw an early screening of this in L.A. a few weeks back. I went in with mild expectations, but wasn't expecting much with Levy and a not so great screenwriter. I was really impressed with this film though. Carell and Fey together is a huge win. They are perfect together, and the supporting cast is great. I only had a couple small complaints about the film, but nothing to steer me away from seeing it again when it comes out.

Great film and I'll recommend it to all my friends.

Also saw Nightmare on Elm Street awhile back...wish I had more to say about that......

Honestly, the couple of times when I've been invited to a screening and commented about it on here I've felt, even when my words were constructive, that I was bragging in a way.

I see now with your post that it actually helps. I'm a bit more willing to give the movie a chance thanks to you. And it also highlights how screenings actually work and help build positive word of mouth.
  • I had no idea what the movie was about before watching the trailer. didn't come off as too funny but didn't look that bad. I won't go out of my way to see it but it my friends are like "let's go see this" I'll go.
  • super_aj
Could be good...but damn that Nickleback to hell.
  • FACT: Anything that has Common in is either very bad or just above O.K.
  • Dr_Handsome
What a crazy trailer... it's got a fantastic cast. Not only Tina Fey and Steve Carrell but Lyle the intern from The Late Show with David Letterman.
  • Sometimes I prefer to just switch off and kick back to a straight forward film, and comedies like this one can be perfect for that. I look forward to seeing this with my wife one evening. Once the kids are in bed. And the dishes are done. And the tidying is finished... *See the parallels?*
  • Weyland_Yutani
I'm predicting a lot of couples that want this fantasy will be taking a date night. Everything about this is harmless and likable. Fey + Carrell + adventure comedy = a whole lot of middle American box office.
  • justrobby
looks better than the Kick Ass teaser..
  • B_Steelo
    I dig that
