Clash of the Titans Movie Trailer

Clash of the Titans

Warner Bros has released the first teaser trailer for Louis Leterrier’s remake of Clash of the Titans. With speed ramp, heavy guitar riffs, and fast paced edits, this definitely isn’t “your father’s Clash of the Titans”. And I’m not really a fan of the “Titans will Clash” slogan. I know a lot of you will probably be impressed by this trailer, calling it “bad ass”. But for me, much of the low-fi magic that made the original special appears to be missing from this version, instead replaced with loads of CG and Lord of the Rings-style flyby shots. It could just be the “lets appeal to the mainstream Mountain Dew drinkers” edit. Who knows what the actual film will look like… We’ll see. Watch the trailer for yourself after the jump. And leave your thoughts in the comments below. I look forward to a lot of you explaining why I’m wrong. Bring it on…

Watch the trailer in High Definition: 480p, 720p, 1080p

In “Clash of the Titans,” the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

“Clash of the Titans” is being directed by Louis Leterrier (“The Incredible Hulk”). Leading the international cast is Australian actor Sam Worthington (“Terminator Salvation,” the upcoming “Avatar”) as Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, king of the gods. Academy Award® nominee Liam Neeson (“Taken,” “Schindler’s List”) takes on the role of the mighty Zeus, and Academy Award® nominee Ralph Fiennes (the “Harry Potter” films, “The English Patient”) plays the role of Hades, god of the underworld, who feeds on human fear. Rounding out the cast is Gemma Arterton (“Quantum of Solace”) as Io, Perseus’ mysterious spiritual guide throughout his journey; Mads Mikkelsen (“Casino Royale”) as Draco, who takes up his sword to join Perseus’ quest; Jason Flemyng (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”) as Acrisius, a one-time king turned hideous beast; and Alexa Davalos (“Defiance”) as Andromeda, a princess doomed to lose her life if Perseus does not succeed.

“Clash of the Titans” is directed by Louis Leterrier from a screenplay by Travis Beacham (“Dog Days of Summer”) and Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi (“Aeon Flux”), and based on the motion picture “Clash of the Titans,” directed by Desmond Davis and written by Beverley Cross. The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk (“We Are Marshall”) and Kevin De La Noy (“The Dark Knight”). The executive producers are Academy Award® winner Richard D. Zanuck and Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and William Fay.

  • Diggin the use of The Used in the trailer!
  • Rislo
What song by The Used is it?
  • The Bird and The Worm.
  • thorofthunder
Terrible song choice for the trailer.
  • MiraFlor
agreed. I was actually excited about this movie until i saw this corny trailer.
  • That Guy
Corny trailer? Scorpions alone make the movie worth seeing, music is fitting to an action scene... ... You're a Twilight fan, aren't you?
  • Jeff Waters
Ya kiddin me? You see the sync-age with the pit scorpion? that was so tight! I gotta admit that it COULDVE been better, but it sync'd beautifully with the trailer. Can't wait for it to come out though.
  • Dan
I hope you are kidding. This music is garbage. Not necessarily by itself but for a genre film of greek mythology this is completely buzz killing.

On second thought, the song is garbage by itself. I am increasingly tired of garbage MTV/alt-rock music killing genre films such as these. It's like when I heard Queens, We will rock you in Knight's Tale. WTF is that all about. Completely inappropriate and it takes you out of the movie.

I hope they fire who ever is scoring this for someone with talent.
  • jeffe
The idea of a rock-influenced medieval movie was there from the beginning. Its what makes the movie man! Diss the song, but not A Knight's Tale, come on.
  • kfizz
Its only set for the trailer. I mean look at the last movie he did the music in the hulk was great. They really played on the old theme of the tv show and some old monster movies. So i think the music will be a updated to the music we loved from the first one. Plus the backing to the music has alot of strings to it.
  • Josh
You're totally right about the music taking you out of the movie. That's actually why I hated the original Clash of the Titans. I went in completely expecting nothing but panflutes and lyres, and instead they used a modern orchestra. What a bunch of idiots! Right?
  • Wtf man!? Did you expect Knights Tale to be another Gladiator or smth? The music is part of what made Knights Tale so fun and somewhat awesome.
And as far as this trailer goes, i thought it went together quite nicely. You know its good to use something other then Immediate Music, pfeifer broz and likes libraries for trailers. Atleast gives something to stand out. Though I have to agree that song by itself isnt that good. And if your expecting Clash of Titans to be accurate to myths or anything i think your going to be disappointed... again.
  • What About Bob?
That song was the only good part in Knight's Tale.
  • diego15
I was looking forward to seeing this, but that music is ... absolutely....... abrasively.....abhorrently ..... distracting... from watching the movie.

If there is more than 5 minutes of this kind of music in the movie, I will see it on DVD. Then I can turn down the sound.
  • I thought that was The Used, pretty much sums up the look of the whole movie...used.
  • Dan
I'd rather have a God of War movie.
  • Amen to that. Get Kratos on the big screen. Then I'll get excited.
  • edc3
"Amen to that. Get Kratos on the big screen. Then I'll get excited."

    no. you'll complain.
  • iec
    SO TRUE.
  • lipslikeasukal
No way that God of War is better than any story in Greek mythology.

It's just that this trailer is pure crap, which is probably due to the horrible choice of music. I would have preferred a more subdued trailer that built up gradually and introduced story, rather than show the fucking scorpion forty-three fucking times (I get it, it's supposed to be bad ass because it's a giant scorpion).

How does one screw up the story of Perseus?
  • concretelogic
Clash of the Titans has has about as much to do with real Greek myths as God of War.

I hate how they keep trying to Christianize Greek mythology, making Zeus the noble god and Hades the evil conqueror. At least in the first God of War they got a little more creative and made Aries the bad guy.
  • Patrick
Well, in God of War they don't make Zeus the noble god, and Hades hasn't even been in it yet that I can recall (I know he's in the 3rd one though). In fact, all the gods of Olympus are evil (at least from Kratos' perpspective). Good thing Kratos will take care of them come March 2010. :)
  • monkeymafia
    "Christianize Greek mythology"

What a moronic statement. concretelogic read that three word statement and try to make a single lick of sense of it. You're an idiot. Seriously. A moron. You make all of us religion bashing folk look stupid.
  • iec
monkeymafia: Uh, no, christinize would be the right term. Cool your jets. Puritan Christianity sets up the Devil of the "underworld" as evil, and God as good, and many modern interpretations of Greek myths do the same thing for Zeus and Hades, which is totally out of place. Hades is not evil. Zeus is mostly a giant prick (in the Hercules cartoon, both were grossly misrepresented).

So really, think about what you're spouting before you fly off the handle. You really don't seem to have any idea what you're talking about. The good/evil duality in divine/mythic tales didn't exist until Christianity came along.
  • theecat
Yep, I was thinking the same. Get me a giant eff'in ant and then we're in business!

monkeymafia, I'm a religion basher and YOU look stupid. what an angry person. What he's trying to convey is that 77%+ of the US population that is religious, is christian. They don't have an exact idea what god looks like, but hes fat, jovious, and has a gnarly beard. So does this zeus guy. Zeus was akin to a double edged sword, nice most the time, screwed all the hot babes (mortal and not), but had a mean streak. So does the christian god, exception of the hot babes. So since they're so similar, why not sell/ market the characters to your mass majority?
  • monkeymafia
    Hey buddy,

I don't think they're using any type of god angle here to sell the film. I was more commenting on him trying to link christianity to greek mythology. That's an ignorant comparison that makes no sense at all. And his idea of "christianizing" was making Zeus a good guy and Hades a bad guy, and I'm pretty sure there's more to chrisitanity than that. Actually, I don't think there's anything even like that in chrisianity (good vs. evil)... I love a good ribbing on the religious community but when people make retarded arguments like that it irks me, whereas your point was informed, insightful and appreciated (except for the calling me stupid and angry part)
  • iec
And I'll repeat here: no, you don't seem very informed in some of he Christian "philosophies," which do purport Satan to be the origin of all evil and God to be the origin of all good. American society generally plays it off that way, or I wouldn't have grown up with that impression for 10 years. I didn't even live in a religious family. The symbols of "god" and "devil" have been imprinted in American society, and people who don't know anything about Greek mythology decide that Zeus and Hades must place similar roles.
  • daz
so true i do hope they make it but also hope they dont ruin a great game in the process kratos is 1 bad mother f****** haha
  • starfox
Awful, awful tag line. But rocking teaser. I really hope that it's more LOTR and less 300.

The effects look good. Give us some characters, story and some genuine pathos and it could be a winner.
  • AdventCiervo
Yeah we'll see pretty much sums it up for me too.
  • capawesome
hahaha, good god that was fucking horrible. I really miss subtlety in film-making these days.
  • Lance_HBomb
You can't really get subtlety in teasers... otherwise it'll leave the audience yawning and going "Lolwut?"
  • Why would you want to mislead viewers into thinking this will be a movie of great storytelling and subtlety of any kind and then later make them feel disappointed. Just sell it what it is.
  • Rng
The correct solution is to make a movie with great storytelling and action, and then you don't have to mislead the viewers.
  • Reeks of 300. And the music and editing are awful. I am still cautiously excited about this movie but the trailer is terrible.
  • Lance_HBomb
I think the editing is superb, though the music choice is indeed a bit confusing.
  • ryz
I thought the music was great with it.

BTW im so gonna pick some of those posters whenever I see them.
  • monkeymafia
I really didn't mind the music all that much... It kinda made me feel like the movie was a live action "Heavy Metal" which is the direction i hope they head in. Creatures and battles, that's kinda all I'm looking for with this one...
  • frelling_cute
What is with the Horrible Rock soundtrack???
  • capawesome
I was waiting for a US Marines or Army logo to show up at the end myself.
  • Rockie
    meh on that trailer

    still gonna see it
  • DoctorProfessorOliver
I swear to CHRIST if they just re-edit this it can be a top-notch film. The fucking speedramps and 300-riffing is going to ruin what could have been one of the best action films of next year. God DAMN it. I was so excited for this. As soon as I saw those posters I knew something like this was going to happen.
  • sammyjankis
You have not even seen the first edit of the movie, how would you know it needs a re-edit ? Marketing people and filmmakers are two separate entities. Maybe all the stuff you hate is the trailer people following orders.
  • DoctorProfessorOliver
I'm drawing conclusions from the trailer like everyone else here. That could very well be, but I don't know how we'd know that. We can only speculate and right now we're speculating on the first hard evidence of what the film will be like. Your criticism is better aimed at everyone who has posted a comment here.

My point is a re-edit would slow down the rapid-fire editing, eliminate the shitty The Used or whatever god-awful nu-metal de jour that is and fix the speed-ramping. I think this could be a great film with a great cast and a director who has proven himself in the action genre.
  • Pulagatha
That trailer is so over the top it's nauseating. The movie looks good though.
  • kfizz
Is it ironic I am drinking Mountain Dew while reading this. The trailer seem cool the hair on sam seems odd.
  • Colonel_Kurtz
I'll see it at least once when it comes out just because it's Clash of the Goddamned Titans, but that trailer almost gave me a seizure. If this movie looks anything like that trailer, I'll be getting my money back in the 1st 10 minutes.
  • lipslikeasukal
What? The trailer shoving the fucking giant scorpion a half a dozen times down your throat with that guitar riff doesn't appeal to you?

    I'm insulted by this trailer.
  • Erick
I'm kind of glad the movie (and plot description) doesn't sound/look too faithful to the original. Not as though it was all that faithful to the original myths itself
  • Tetsuo_Man
^This. It looks and smells brand new.... I don't understand why the 2 can't co-exist, the latter being a badass-esque 300 God of War mansweating high octane mess. At least they didn't go full-on remake...
