As you probably know by now, I love the fly-on-the-wall making of documentaries which over the last decade have almost completely been replaced by generic making-of featurettes. A video has appeared on YouTube showing the Ghostbusters 2 effects team and Robin Navlyt (who wore the Slimer suit in the film) testing out the Slimer wearable puppet’s ability to emote. While this isn’t a making of documentary, it does give you a fly on the wall perspective of what it was like to design and work on the special effects for this infamous film. I wish more footage like this would be released by Sony, instead of a stupid “Restoring the Ecto-1 featurette”, which was one of the only new extras included on the recent Blu-ray release of the original film.

And say what you will about the sequel (and most of it is warranted) but the range of motion in the face of everyones favorite slime ghost was much improved from the first film. It’s actually pretty incredible the range of emotion they were able to get out of the puppet. Watch the video after the jump.

    Thats pretty cool
  • I'll never wrap my head around how anyone can complain about Ghostbusters II. It was almost on a par with the first film. It was equally funny. The only part that sucked was the stupid walking statue of liberty. Other than that, it's a great film.
  • agreed. when did this Ghostbusters II backlash start? I love that movie, maybe even more so than the first one. The sequel had those ooze guns! Maybe it's because i was just a kid at the time, but I've seen it again recently and it's still a great, fun, movie.

Wow.... excellent work! Too bad it never showed up on the screen. Wondering why Slimer II looks a lot different than Slimer I? Will they go for a CGI Slimer in GBIII?

I think it's because after BG I the cartoon The Real Ghostbusters came out, and they made Slimer a good guy, so in GB II they gave Slimer a small non threatening part as a shoutout to the fans of the cartoon.
  • I hope they don't go the CG route in Ghostbusters 3. Having a person in the suit gives him so much more character. In fact, I hope they find Robin and hire her again!

Driving Driving Driving ahhh come one.

"Driving Driving Driving...Door Opens...Hey Cmon...Pay...Back of the Bus!" I think I just found the lyrics to a hit new song, add a beat and we're in business.
  • How cool is Slimer! Up there as easily one of the most memorable and instantly recognizable characters of all time. This video is brilliant.

I agree with people: I don't get the Ghostbusters 2 backlash. Granted, I don't think it's as good as the first one (being a recap of the same plot) but it's not bad as some people are making it out to be. It's still funny and it's still charming.

It's like Spielberg's Hook backlash, a common thing at aint it cool news.com and chud: I don't get it.

Slimer should have had a bigger part in Ghostbusters 2!
  • Octoberist
i actually heard that he did, but they cut them out. For example, originally Slimer was suppose to fly towards the camera at the end of GB 2 - just like what he did in Ghostbusters 1, but they just cut it out. :(

Python quotes... is there a situation where they aren't welcome?
  • Yes, and that would be almost any situation, ever. Python quoting stopped being funny and became annoying as shit many, many years ago.

"I came here for an argument!"

"Oh, I'm sorry, this is abuse, you want 12A down the hall."

Since when was GB2 an "infamous" film?
  • Electro_Jones
It's fun to watch them work out that performance. You can see it getting better and better and towards the end you know she's nailing it over and over. Great find.
