International Avatar Movie Trailer

Avatar

Not sold by the original teaser trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar? The full length feature trailer, which has been playing on the big screen for the past week, has been getting a lot better response. This time around Fox was smart to concentrate more on the human/live-action hybrid portion of the story more before entering the world of the Na’vi and Pandora. The official high definition domestic trailer won’t hit the web until Thursday morning at 10:00am pacific time, but a proper international version has already shown up online. So if you can’t wait and can deal with subtitles, watch it now after the jump. And as always, leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Still looks like shit to me..
  • Jawmuncher
    Still looks awesome to me...
  • Django
Looks like an awesome piece of shit to me.

A big steaming pile of awesomeness ... check originality & interesting
characters at the door: You're on Pan-Doh-Ruh!

Like a car-wreck you can't help but crane your neck out, to get a closer look.
  • Rayn
well u must b a knob jockey then
  • victor85
Monoply? Mono...what...<_< Welp, thanks Fox for showing the whole movie in a 3 min trailer ;d
  • Kofi
Well that certainly gave away a lot of plot points....but I am much more interested in the story of Avatar.
  • Joseph
Off to get a copy of "The New World" and watch that instead...
  • Sounds like Pocahontas. I wish that they'd have a little more morals on both sides. You know, I wish the humans had more of a motivation for the mining besides the inevitable "it's gets us a lot of money". That would be interesting. Maybe it's necessary for the humans. Like, if they don't get the metal they could die. Then we coud really get into some moral dilemmas and see were it goes from there. Is it worth destroying one culture to save another? But no, we're getting Dances with Na'vis
  • pete_traynor
There are reasons humans need it. AVTR.com has them
  • super_aj
Bad. ass. It looks great. I keep hearing from people I know that seeing it in 3d is something to behold. I just wish they would put this trailer in 3d somewhere. But there are no new 3d films coming out for a while. That makes me sad.
  • Even in this quality, the cg looks so much better than the first trailer. Excited to see how it'll come out!
  • presto117
    which trailer were you watching?
  • Spence_Mgence
It's funny to hear all of these people complain that it looks like shit and they give the whole story away, yet the same people have no clue what to expect. I read the "scriptment" and trust me, they don't give a lot away. This will hands down be the most beautiful film you will ever see, whether you like the story and/or acting or not. Pandora and the animals that inhabit it will make your jaw drop. Stay optimistic people.
  • presto117
in order for it to be the most beautiful movie i've ever seen, it needs to not look like shit.
  • Cypher
If that looks shit then...well you have extremely high standards for cgi...
  • Spence_Mgence
agreed. Also, remember that you are watching it on a computer screen and not on the big screen in 3D. Like I said, be optimistic and wait until you see it to bash it. If it was something like the Lost Boys direct-to-DVD sequel then I would understand the constant bashing.
  • presto117
i don't have high standards for CGI. I think all the human related stuff (giant mechs, ships, whatnot) looks fine, maybe as good as it can get, but the Na'avi just look terrible to me. their skin doesn't look realistic (not human-realistic, it just doesn't look real to me at all, and i'm not talking about the character design), their features are ridiculous. i keep expecting them to make that snarky face every single Dreamworks Animation character makes, and seeing as they're the main focus of the movie, that's a BIG letdown in my eyes. And sure, i bet it looks better in 3D since that'll add depth to the world and no doubt make it look awesome, great CGI or not. If the CGI were better, i'd have few negative things to say about this movie. I'm still gonna see it cause i'm giving JC the benefit of the doubt.
  • iec
god, people criticizing this film are so fucking retarded. ever seen Lawnmower Man? that is shitty CGI. to describe the CGI in this as "shit" and then provide NO argument as to why you think so other than "haha, shit, shitty shit, shit shit shit..."

erg, what's it matter. if you want to flaunt how stupid you are in a public forum be my guest.
  • monkeymafia
I like this trailer a whole bunch but I think you're stupid for comparing the CGI in a 2009 $300 million movie to "Lawnmower Man", a movie that was made nearly two decades ago for a fraction of the cost.

    Retard.

Way to go flaunting your own stupidity out in the open on a public forum.
  • jehosophat
    Gentlemen, please.
I didn't realize this was a forum on Idiocracy, too.

It takes one to know one , y'know?

Yes, this movie is poorly designed. Yes, the EFX are more advanced than anything we've ever seen.
But it doesn't mean we're idiots if we still can't adjust to accepting the poorly designed, fake looking characters.
(Oh, but their facial expressions are more realistic than anything ever done!)
Really? How 'bout Stan Winston? That guy could make some pretty convincing aliens - b/c his ethos was exclusively : "I'm not designing EFX. I'm designing CHARACTERS."
Every alien suit in Aliens was unique. Every Na'vi, on the other hand, simply has a different arrangement of glowing freckled, and some different eyes. Their bodies are exact clones of one another.

    Is that good design?
Say what you will, but Stan Winston (R.I.P.) never confused his designs w/ the ThunderSmurfs of Ferngully, did he?
  • Muffin7
I think that it looks like shit because the characters designs are so ridiculous. The Naavi are this florescent blue color that looks silly, not to mention the design of their faces and how over-exaggerated their expressions are. When they smile I expect their tooth to sparkle and then for them to hold up a pack of trident gum to the camera. It just looks phony.
The Mechs look pretty sweet. In fact, anything based even loosely in reality looks pretty sweet. It's the inhabitants of this world that really draw me out of the whole thing.

I'll still go see this movie in 3D when it comes out, but I have an overwhelming feeling that it's not going to even come close to satisfying expectations. But, that's just my speculation.
  • presto117
well, if you read through the comments, you would have seen that i DID provide an argument for my reasoning, but if you want to flaunt how stupid you are in a public forum, (cause most people use commas where they're needed) be my guest =)
  • Guest1
In response to Jehosophat- I don't think that from the trailer you can accurately observe that all the body types etc are the same. It makes sense that they would be similar, as they have enviroment-specific physical needs, such as all being of a healthy weight, etc.

That leads me to my comment to Muffin7...Many of their exaggerated expressions could easily be explained. Larger eyes, the color of their skin...both could be fitting of a crepuscular or semi-noctournal species, or one that evolved from that.

Critical thinking is great- I poke holes in movies for fun. But you actually have to apply possibilities instead of jumping right to criticm.
  • dogless
Who's dick did you have to suck to get to be JC's PR guy, Spence?
  • Spence_Mgence
If your going to be a twat about it then go fuck yourself. But if you really want to know I am just trying to get into the business and made friends with someone who has no relation to JC and happened to get the script and knew I was interested in it more than he/she was.
  • dogless
Jesus, don't get your knickers in a bloody twist there Spence, you might have trouble getting them off fo the casting couch. And as for 'someone trying to get into the the business' (read: you work at blockbuster), is that supposed to make your opinion more valid?

Why is everyone on here so fucking serious?
  • Spence_Mgence
I'm not getting my "knickers in a twist" but if you are going to be condescending and an asshole I will throw it back your way. As far as me trying to get into the business, I will never work at a blockbuster let alone rent a movie from one. I interned at a production company and go to film school. This does not make my opinion more valid, you simply asked how I got the scriptment. If you don't like the answer, then don't ask me the fucking question. I don't think it's necessarily seriousness as it is more a passion for film and optimism, not the usual pessimism and troll-like qualities that most people who post on websites like this share. You don't know me, so don't assume things about me and I will do the same for you.

  • medavidson
Is the trailer for the new WOW expansion?
  • jasonb26
this doesnt look very good at all.
  • Fir3Wolf
I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. I think it's going to be huge. I'll be seeing it day one in IMAX 3-D.
  • The Great Cambino
Interesting how they're really playing up the "marines in space" angle now. I guess they learned from the teaser.

Even though the plot sounds thin and the message seemed pretty handed, I'm still going to be there opening night for the spectacle. This looks like it's got it spades.
  • Avatarded
The story is comprised of so many cliches I feel like I have already seen it
    That dialogue made me vomit
    Those actors are terrible
    The "photo-real" CGI is laughable
This trailer just gave away the entire movie

    I hope this movie fails.
  • Name
Stop being suck a negative sad human, people like you get sick pleasure in seeing people who take a risk fail, go watch your district 9 movie again which i know you love, i hope they make a sequel with even more camera shake and a more laughable out of nowhere antagonists at the end. Underachievers always try to bring down people who really do great things.
  • cptjchite
    lol whats district 9???
  • Name
Dunno, guess he needs spell check, cause I sure have no idea what he is talking about.
  • Tetsuo_Man
He's a sad human being and extremely negative and you know ALL that because he wrote on a random website that he doesn't like a movie trailer.... I mean, while we're at it; Avatarded condemning a film that he hasn't even seen must mean he HATES puppies and also drinks and drives.

You know you're the stupid person if you attach emotional response to a comment regarding a movie trailer that he has all rights to not like.
  • Avatarded
All aspects of Avatar look and sound horrible. I feel sorry for the fans.

That is the truth I have no reason to lie. I just call them like I see them.
  • iec
and what the fuck have you achieved in your life? who the hell are you, and what are you ever going to do that compares, that will garner an audience numbering the millions, and even if it IS a terrible piece of shit, most of those people will love it? who ARE you? why is your opinion worth a god-damned dime?
  • Django
    Got a joke for you:
You know what Peter Jackson did when he saw the results of his "James Cameron EFX Bailout"? (aka Avatar: FX by WETA)

He slapped himself in the forehead, went and produced something he could be proud to attach his name to.
    Hence, District 9.
  • presto117
this is in reply to "everin":

how bout you? what the fuck have you achieved in your life? what are you gonna do that compares to this (besides taking a shit, of course). why's your opinion worth a goddam dime?

god, you're stupid. just... shut up.
  • Aravindha
The movie is going to be 3 hours long just like titanic so the trailer does not give away the whole movie
  • kirklazarus97
This is the trailer they should have released initially.
  • Joe
For me, I think I'd laugh all the way out of the theater unless I saw it in IMAX 3-d. So... that's my plan.
  • m_manzi
    This is our land....
    give me a break
  • presto117
exactly. "umm... no. your land is earth. that's THEIR land."
  • Jesus Christ that is the entire point of him having been convinced of Their struggle, that he considers himself more and more of Their kind. And I know you know this so why the easy cheap shots.

I really dont understand how everyone is talking shit about this film. LOOK AT THIS FUCKING THING PEOPLE. THIS IS A MOVIE. ISNT THIS A MIRACLE?

Reminds me of Louis CK and his "Everything is a miracle and nobody cares" or whatever. God people are jaded.
  • chromey
It's "everthings amazing and nobodys happy".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk
  • Zarathustra
Yes. "Everything's Amazing, and nobody's happy."

The point of Louis CK's routine is that technology has not solved ANY of our basic level human problems.

So if James Cameron's basic human problems are a poor script & bad acting - no quantity of cutting edge CGI EFX are going to make the average person identify with this movie.

Thank you for leaving such a gaping hole, & proving your own point.

Relax. Everyone razzing the movie will see it. Cameron will make his money.

Because another basic human trait is that everyone loves to watch a car-wreck.
