Alice In Wonderland

Back during Comic Con we saw the first teaser for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which will be released in 3D in March 2010. It showed off the expected stuff: Burton’s warped landscapes and character designs and a bit of the basic story structure that most audiences are familiar with anyway. Now there’s  a second teaser. It has a bit of new footage (a really small bit) but is generally just a remix of the first. Catch it after the break.

Spike premiered this teaser as part of the Scream Awards (which also brought us a new Shutter Island trailer) but Disney doesn’t seem to have put much work into this one. There’s a new shot of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and a couple of other new one-second shots, but somehow this teaser actually seems to show off less of Wonderland than we saw in the first version over the summer.

I really want to see more, because currently Alice in Wonderland is neck and neck with A Christmas Carol in competition to decide which is the film I’m least interested in seeing in the next six months. There’s nothing here that looks to me like it captures the spirit of Lewis Carroll’s story. I’m curious to see Mia Wasikowska, but that’s about it. All the major character designs that have been revealed so far couldn’t be more of a turn-off.

I’d been afraid when this project was first announced that Burton’s take on Alice would be way too self-indulgently kooky, and that seems to be the case. Which is too bad, as Burton had just won me back into his camp with Sweeney Todd, which was far better than I ever would have expected. Maybe this one will go the same way, but right now I’m not willing to be on it.

    Not interested in the slightest.

Burton's output of late has been apalling. Not made a decent film for at least 10 years.

You thought Big Fish was crap?

I agree Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Planet of the Apes, and Sweeney Todd left a lot to be desired, but Big Fish is one of his best movies.

So Big Fish, Charlie, Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd are not even "decent" films at least. I lol'd. Though I agree on Planet of the Apes, but still... that's really bold statement.

Well, i'm incredibly excited for this. Though i think it would have been alot better the look of it was more like Sweeney Todd or Sleepy Hollow.

I'm curious about this one because it's one of his few recent films where the screenplay wasn't written by John August.

It looks completely crazy. Think I'll love it ! Can't wait.

We all win if it turns out to be better than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
  • This isn't the full trailer, I watched the Spike TV awards and they showed a lot more.
  • After he throws the scrolls up, they showed more... I don't know why Spike TV only put this short clip up.
  • Rockie
not excited but i will watch it.....even if its on dvd or blu

Tim is going to Murder this movie. He put his dumb little twist on it when it was fine in the first place. I'm so glad that he is not going to the remake of The Crow.

Me too... I can just see him casting Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter for the leads (which he needs to stop doing).

On a side note, he's getting real hit and miss.... Sweeney was sort of hard to screw up so no suprise people liked it but how hard is it to adapt Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They barely had special effects when Willy Wonka came out and they did marvelously... I'm still baffled on that one. Anyways, this looks to "Burton-y".

hey look its Edward Scissorhands/Sweeney Todd/Willy Wonka!

Looks like a Robert Rodriguez flick. Way to heavy on the green screens. Puppets and Animatronics are way creepier.
  • I really just feel "meh" towards this one. I know a lot of work has gone into the design and effects, but it kind of feels like Tim Burton just hits a default button on his computer and it spits out Johnny Depp, Danny Elfman, twisty trees and weird animation.
There's nothing wrong with that but I'm personally a little sick of it.

Everytime I see Johnny Depp as the Hatter I think of potpourri(sp?). Also I forgot how sultry they're trying to make Alice look. I miss the original look regardless of how dated it is.

Does anyone else feel this trailer was a bit cut off? as if there might be more?

It feels like Depp is the main attraction on this film, I assume this is a studio ORDER, to attract more people to see it....in my opinion this is not needed...and yes I totally agree with you "Mike G" Animatronics are way better!!! too much 3D.... and BIG FISH was Burton's last great film....one of my favorite films! I'm sorry if you can't appreciate it joker93 I agree on the rest
