Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassin’s Ball Movie Trailer

Smoking Aces 2

I’ll admit, I didn’t like Joe Carnahan’s Smokin Aces as much as I was hoping to. Disappointed is probably the appropriate word. That’s not to say there isn’t things to like about the film… it just wasn’t the balls out action film that many were expecting. And the direct-to-dvd sequel, Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassin’s Ball, isn’t likely to be any better. In fact, it will probably be a lot worse, especially considering that Lost Boys: The Tribe director P.J. Pesce is at the helm.

The press release advertises that the film “features a sexy cast, whip-smart script and hyper-kinetic visuals.” The big selling point is that Lazlo Soot and the Tremor Brothers from the original theatrical film make their return. Here is the short plot synopsis (plot? do we really need a plot in a Smokin Aces direct-to-video sequel?):

Federal agents once again match wits with a cadre of creative killers in the high-octane feature-length film Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball.  Walter Weed (Tom Berenger) is an unassuming desk jockey at the FBI when the Bureau uncovers a plot to assassinate him. A team of degenerate, psychotic assassins dispatched by mystery man Hal Leuco to win a huge bounty includes a resourceful beauty who has a unique method of killing her prey (Martha Higareda), a power-tool wielding psychopath (Vinnie Jones) and a deadly master of disguise (Tommy Flanagan). Also in the hunt is the fan-favorite Tremor family from the original film, featuring nymphomaniacal gun-nut (Autumn Reeser) and her lethal kinfolk (Maury Sterling, Michael Parks and C. Ernst Harth). Baker (Clayne Crawford), the agent in charge of the operation, puts himself and his team in the line of fire to defend Weed, but it’s not until the smoke clears on the film’s explosive climax that the surprising identity of the plot’s mastermind is revealed.

I'm assuming that there are different actors playing the Tremor Brothers this time around? Or did Chris Pine actually reprise his role? I was thinking with Star Trek being the success it was, he would pass on the role. Of course i could answer this question myself, but i figured i'd just post first. To IMDB i go.
  • Assassins Ball? Too. Many. Jokes....

The first flick was a case of the sum of the parts being much greater than the whole. Bateman, Chris Pine and his Tremor brethren, the ADD kid, and Taraji Henson were scene stealing fiends. Alicia Keys and Common were much better than anyone had any right to expect. BAD ASS ELEVATOR SHOOT OUT. Even Affleck made a contribution - even if was on the blooper reel. Only two complaints I had was that you would have expected more out of Piven and the overly-expository ending (I hate those) sucked. Still there are much worse ways to spend and hour and 45 minutes.
  • They should of just named the tournament smokin aces 2 since it was practically the same film yet did it better then the first and this garbage.
  • Dr_Gonzo
I thought exactly the same thing! The premise for The Tournament was good but the execution was terrible.

vinnie jones is still the man

This is the last thing Hollywood needs right now. Just keep feeding the mediocrity machine! Give me more Zombieland! Give me more Ninja Assassin! Shit, give me more Assassin's Balls In My Mouth! For 10.25, I will swallow anything Hollywood spits at me!

    Fuck this industry.

For such a tiny and simple name, Hat, you have a very large temper.
  • What was wrong with Zombieland?

    You've seen Ninja Assassin?

Before I read any of the dozens of negative posts I'm sure have been made about this I gotta say it looks like just what I expected from the first one, a no brainer pop corn flick... only without the popcorn.
  • Name
A Smokin Aces remake without the talented director or the great cast.... FAIL
  • it amazes me the amount of money spent each year to produce garbage movies.
christ,,,,, feed the poor and hungry with all those millions, at least then some satisfaction would result for someone,.
    this movie is gonna suck

I'm probably one of the only people who actually kinda liked Smokin' Aces, but I can't say I'm looking forward to seeing this one. It really doesn't look all that great but maybe if I lower my expectations I can get some enjoyment out of watching it.
