scream_4_3d

Update: Seems like you’ll be able to keep one eye closed through Scream 4 after all. Kevin Williamson has tweeted “What is this Scream 4 in 3D? First I heard of it” and “Guys? Really? 3D? Nahhhhh”. I guess those Friday the 13th 3D in-jokes will have to wait for another time.

How would you like your Scream 4, sir? Jumping at you down just the one lens, or two?

A new rumor has it that the Weinsteins are setting up Scream 4 to be shot in 3D. It makes perfect sense, particularly when pretty much everything else on their horror slate will be getting shot in stereovision too. But why didn’t Bob Weinstein mention the plans for 3D when he was spilling his Scream 4 guts to Variety before? I’d hazard a guess that it was because getting Wes Craven back in the director’s chair was considered more important, and it wasn’t known how he felt about taking on a 3D movie.

The issue is sure to have come up in negotiations, of course and if we are to slot all of the rumours together like a jigsaw, it seems like Craven is fine and dandy with 3D because the story is, he’s “closer than ever” to actually inking his John Hancock where it counts.

Bloody Disgusting dished the scoop and made me, personally, rather happy. I like Scream, I like 3D, I’m badly wanting to like Scream 4 3D.

At the foot of their article Bloody Disgusting say, in a matter of fact fashion, that “the new trilogy will take on a younger version of the Scream films”. Just repeating an old rumour, maybe? Or are they so sure now, after multiple corroborations, that this is the plan?

I’m sure the current trend for 3D horror cinema won’t go without remark in Kevin Williamson’s script. I’ll bet you a proverbial dollar that somebody gets a good poke in the eye, in fact. That’s how things work in Screamville, right?

The only confirmed cast so far are Neve Campbell, who is rumoured to only have a cameo, and Courtney Cox and David Arquette who may have substantially larger roles. I guess the casting for the “next generation” won’t start making the news for a little while longer yet, but I’m definitely intrigued to see who’s taken onboard. It should prove the clearest early indication of the direction Williamson and (presumably) Craven plan for us.

You just know that it will reference movies being made in 3D nowadays.
  • Scream was a great film. The two that followed it, not so much. Doing another can't possibly improve that.
Two things need to happen to make better films these days:
    A. Knock off the 3D. No one cares, it's as over done as "handy cam" movies.
    B. Fire the Weinsteins. Seriously, they have lost their minds and are only cranking out crap these days. Make them stop.

I am so damn sick of 3D. I can't wait until it's boxed for another couple decades.

Very clever picture. Although I worry about SCRE4M in 3-D. I hope it's as smart, enjoyable and thrilling as the first one. I'm pulling for the team to capture magic again, but who knows.
  • Craven; Writer of Dawson's Creek; 3D!!! I think I'm now even *less* interested in Scream 4.

Oakside, Craven directed and Kevin Williamson wrote ALL the Scream films! So, you have not been interested at all if you had know all along that they directed and wrote the other films, respectively. Hmm. So, I wonder if you liked the other installments.
  • Craven directed the first three but Williamson only wrote the first two. He wrote an outline for Scream 3 but the final script was written by Ehren Kruger which may or may not have contained elements of Williamson's input.
  • I didn't catch that he wrote both 1 & 2, the former being decent but not quite standing the test of time. Although by popping out #2, Williamson/Craven's reputation is right back where it started in my book. Craven hasn't directed anything that had me hooked, eagerly anticipating his next project.

It all seems a bit desperate (ex: Fast and Furious). 3D would seem to seal the deal. *shakes head*
  • 3D aspect has never been a selling point for me. I've never purchased a ticket to a film simply because it was 3D. I just. Don't. Get it. And I'm sick of hearing about it, frankly.
  • Kevin Williamson refuted the 3D claims on his Twitter today. Though I guess they will take the piss of 3D in the script somewhere no doubt.

I honestly dont see what the big deal is with 3-d. Next they're gonna try and make Scream 4 PG-13 to reach out for the kiddies that didnt get to see the original 3 because mommy and daddy thought they were too violent. Enough with the 3d crap, it's not worth it and you will loose alot of intrest from the true horror community.
