Ivan Reitman On Board For Ghostbusters 3

ghostbusters_go_zapping

BloodyDisgusting has confirmed that Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II director Ivan Reitman is 100% attached to Ghostbusters 3. He hasn’t decided yet if he wants to direct the project, but is definitely on board to produce. This shouldn’t come as much of a shock as almost everyone associated with the first two films are also on board for a third film if it goes into production.

I have heard that Office / Year One scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg have turned in a script, and BD is reporting that the sequel script begins as the paranormal researchers “reopen” their ghost removal service after it has been closed for years. We’ve already heard that the film will introduce a new generation of Ghostbusters, who will be trained/mentored by the original crew.

We’ll keep you updated as to any further developments.

Wasn't part 2 already about "reopening" their ghost service after being closed for years?

I hope it's gritty, dark, realistic and takes itself too seriously because I'm a joyless nerd that hates anything with even a grain of imagination.

Excellent news, considering I'm dressing like a Ghostbuster for Halloween this year!!! Already got the cardboard and jumpsuit, baby!
  • This is destined to suck a bowling ball through a straw anyway, but to prevent so much suckage that all the windows cave in, please keep Shia LaBeouf the hell away from Ghostbusters 3!

No, it's Gonna be Ryan Reynolds.
  • Travis McGee
Ryan Reynolds is going to become the new Kevin Bacon. Soon everyone will be playing the 6 degrees of Ryan Reynolds game.
  • Sean
Bill Hader should play Venkman's son but Harold Ramis has to lose weight fast. Egon was extremely skinny.
  • Jim
Bill Hader is an AWESOME idea!!! they should also have Andy Samberg in there, maybe as Slimer's cousin or something, haha, seriously though, it would be great to see both Bill and Andy involved with this movie somehow.

I wouldn't be surprised if casting like this is what we see. I've always said I also think Paul Rudd would make a great Ghostbuster.

But what if Andy Samberg played Oscar? That would be awesome.
  • smither
I loled to Andy Samberg playing Oscar....that would be epic
  • If they promote this correctly it could become an event film. Once in a lifetime stuff. If they drop the ball, however, it could be seen as another lame rehash like so much other junk out there these days. I hope they nail it perfectly.

It just occurred to me how cool it would be to finally see a Ghostbuster movie on the big screen. I'm so there!

(I absolutely grew up on Ghostbusters 1+2 and the animated series, but on VHS tape and television)

I really hope they make a great #3, they are on the right track by getting the original cast and Reitman (who I saw @ Tiff just a few weeks ago!)
  • Ivan Reitman is another step in the right direction, whether he directs it or not. The kicker will be Bill Murray. If he stays on after he sees a script, GB3 will be golden!

They should do it before, you know, one of the them hits the grave.
  • Wikus
    Bill Murray can never die!

    For he is eternal!
  • Solid
Awesome. i just bought the new gb ps3 game and so far it's been exactly what I imagined a new gb story to be. I wouldn't mind a new movie in the same vein as Stallone's rocky balboa and not Spielberg's shitting all over his legacy that was Indy 4.

This just made a bad day amazing! I love love love Ghostbusters. Looking at the poster hanging in my room right now.

*SPOILER, if you don't already know*
Bill Murray's scene in Zombieland made me want this so much more and really felt as if it was Murray gearing up to return to Venkman. I don't know how I feel about the "re-opening" because it has been done before. If they can come up with a plausible reason, I'm down. I'm down for all of it.

If Reitman signs on I'll know this script is great and will just flip my shit for it to be made.

Okay, usually the spoiler warning should be more separated from the actual spoiler. Thanks.
  • RJBlakeAAU
Sorry, my bad, I was sort of banging it out before I had to rush out. Plus, I think almost everybody knows about this by now.

"Plus, I think almost everybody knows about this by now."

LOL. THANKS. You're right, it IS my fault.
  • RJBlakeAAU
Hey man, the movie was #1 in the B.O. I did give a warning. I apologized.

When did I say it was your fault?... I am confused by this...
