wesley-snipes-blade

Things haven’t been so great for Wesley Snipes post-Blade 3. He appeared in a string of direct-to-video action movies, ran into a bit of tiff with the federal government, and pretty much seemed to fall of the radar. Now it looks like Snipes’ luck could be changing for the better: He has a role in Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming Brooklyn’s Finest, and today we’ve learned that he’s reteaming with Abel Ferrara (who directed Snipes in King of New York) for a new action thriller, Game of Death.

If you were expecting Snipes to be climbing an ascending pagoda fighting a variety of martial artists, expect to be disappointed. In this film Snipes will star as a bodyguard who is tasked with protecting a politician from five of the world’s best assassins. Now that I’ve written that out, I could see the film potentially being some sort of spiritual successor to the posthumous Bruce Lee project of the same name. Perhaps Snipes could take on these five assassins in sequence in a multilevel parking lot or shopping mall for an American perspective. Stunt goddess Zoe Bell and Robert Davi are currently signed to co-star.

Abel Ferrara has been in a similar irrelevancy doghouse as Snipes for some time now—and despite how schlocky this project may sound, I have high hopes for it. King of New York wasn’t a perfect film by any means, but it was an entertaining (if overly-stylized) crime film that made me think Ferrara had some sort of future.

Discuss: Would you like to see Wesley Snipes resurrect his career? Can anyone report back on his recent direct-to-video films?

Just give us a Blade 4!! and have a battle between the Hollywood martial Artists! Jason Statham vs. Wesley Snipes vs. Michale Jai White

I'd pay good money to see that
  • Thats what we are saying! lets start a petition =)

its to bad snipes will not be joining the cast of sly stallone's "expendables".then the possibility of statham vs. snipes would have been more likely!

Actually he was not acquitted on all counts, just the most serious one. He was convicted on three charges and is still facing the possibility of 3 years in jail. His conviction has been under appeal since April, and he is allowed to work during that time...

Seen all of his direct to dvd movies and while they are all pretty similair, they aren't bad. Think of Taken with Snipes as the lead, same budget, same gritty action and gun violence, fairly low key plots. As far as direct to dvd goes, they are probably the best action ones by far.
  • I think he should consider doing some comedies, like he did back in the day; just to get people to like him again...then he can go back to these action films.

Zoe Bell is friggin' HOT! She was the best part of 'Death Proof'. I'll see this POS Snipes film for her alone. I hope she kicks his douchebag ass.
  • Agreed, I'm in it for Zoe as well. Everytime Snipes grits his teeth in a scene (all too often) I want to punch them out of his face. Of course he could whoop my ass with one hand tied behind his back... but that does not change my level of anger at his stupid teeth-bearing attempt-at-emotion grinning.
  • Oh, so is he out of jail? Im sorry if im behind this. Obviously he escaped jail somehow?

Wait, if hes out- then MARVEL should move on with that Blade movie theyve been talking about
  • Oh wait, im an idiot so i didnt read he comments first. Devindra Hardawar answered the question.

So yeah lets get going with Blade 4 already!

    "Bl4de- Blood Bath"
  • i thought he was going to prison...nonetheless will look out for the movies
