A Nightmare on Elm Street Teaser Trailer

noes_teaser

The teaser trailer for the new version of A Nightmare on Elm Street has finally been released, and it shows off Jackie Earle Haley in all his pre- and post-burn glory as the new Freddy Krueger.

Those in Hall H for the Warner Bros. presentation at Comic Con this summer saw a teaser very very similar to this one. (Here’s a video reaction, and David’s writeup.) Perhaps even the exact same thing, though I think there are a few small differences and additions. From what I’ve seen so far, the hook here is definitely Haley; I love his screen presence and am curious to see what he can do to make Krueger his own. The makeup is certainly different, as the last shot reveals, and his dialogue shows that the jokey old Krueger is shelved in a dark corner of Platinum Dunes’ basement. (In that respect, not necessarily a bad thing; I could never get into the wisecracking killer Krueger became.)

The rest of the thing, though…what I’m afraid of is that there isn’t much imagination to the dreamscapes. This is a movie about nightmares, dammit, and there’s leeway to do anything at all. Some of the previous films in the Elm Street serious have been silly as hell, but the standouts at least went out on a limb to present some wild, horrific dreams. I hope there’s a lot more here than snow (or ash?) in a bedroom, creepy little Shining girls and a couple of visual callbacks to kills in previous films in the series. Is there anything to match Freddy slicing up a kid’s limbs and then using tendons to puppeteer him to his death? I hope so.

Music video director Samuel Bayer is making his feature debut with this remake. He’s got a long resume working for bands and music labels, but Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have obviously exerted significant influence, as this definitely bears the visual stamp of all the other Platinum Dunes films.

Does anyone else think he looks like Voldamort from Harry Potter? Not sure why they are going with the burn victim look. The only place he's seen is in a dream world, so he can make himself look however he wants.

oh boy. mr haley i'm sure does a fine job in this but c'mon this looks so generic and just boring. a child-killer who uses your own dreams against you is a concept that could and should be truly surreal and horrifying. this looks neither surreal nor horrifying. platinum dunes makes horror movies for people who like 'one tree hill' and listen to hannah montana. not that there's anything wrong with that...i just happen to think it sucks.
  • Yeh I am agree with You RJBlakeAAu. Haley is really looking good as well as Damn has proved that he is good actor. I really like this. One and only one word : Fantastic...
  • Looks to be your typical Bay film.
  • rockinrors
That is a really cool trailer.
And then the kids start talking.
They are the annoying cliche kids from movies which I hate!
But I gotta say, it actually looks pretty cool.
  • Why did he turn Irish at the end?
  • awesome trailer, but he looked really short at the beginning, thought it was a kid
  • Helm
I was skeptical about Samuel Bayer, but WOW.
  • wazuu
This looks awesome. From what I saw at the beginning of the trailer, it looks like the movie is taking a different approach on Freddy and actually making it to be that maybe he didn't do anything and everyone blamed him for it. Looks very creepy, not like a cheesy horror film from these days. Very Very cool totally looking forward to it.

It sucks. Plain and simple. That´s not even Freddy. They ruined it. He looks like Michael Jackson. Bah, what a useless effort.
  • Dead_Wasp
Freddy looks and sounds like Mason Verger from 'Hannibal'.
    (O__o)

I want Freddy to prove his innocence by telling all the angry parents "The glove doesnt fit" sorry I had to lol
  • Name
No way will this Freddie be any good...Im for Robert England all the way!!!!!!!

    TEAM ROBERT ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • babyjaypan
    englund
  • robinlyn
I like that you are for Robert England, but I don't like the fact that you spelled Freddy wrong.

The fact of the matter is that this isn't Robert England's Freddy, and Robert England has said himself that he loves Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy, and thinks that he'll do a great job.

It looks like shit. This is a movie I wouln´t pay to watch.
This is not even close to what I was expecting. That´s not Freddy at all.
Freddy is much more scary. They shouldn´t have done this rameke like this. What a waste.
  • John
Wow. I was expecting to be a little disappointed but that looks awesome.
  • babyjaypan
that was an awesome trailer but i'm not really digging the new freddy look. at least it's realistic though!
  • That's handy. It's out in the cinema around my birthday next year. Good timing. 8D
  • Initially when I heard that there was to be a remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, I was kind of "meh!" on the idea. Then I heard of Jackie Earle Haley playing Freddy and thought, "Interesting..."
Seeing the trailer, I have to say that I may be up for this flick.
I'm not one whose too into horror/slasher flicks. Most think it's because I'm scared of them when it's actually the opposite...I'm not scared of them. That's the point that is at a loss for me in those flicks. I usually sit there predicting what's going to happen. But this trailer looks like it may be entertaining and we get to see Freddy's origin as he is burned in the boiler room. Something that was missing in the original and only told via another character's account.

The face of Freddy takes a bit getting used to but it does look like that of a real burn victim. Also he doesn't seem to be the wise-cracking bufoonish Freddy that was in the sequels (I liked Freddy in the original version but after that he felt like kind of a cartoon to me...no slight at Robert Englund but the sequels of the old franchise got more and more campy in a way, in my opinion).

Plus...CLANCY BROWN IS THE ONE WHO BURNS FREDDY ALIVE!!! FREDDY VS. THE KURGAN!!!!!!!!! HOW MUCH DOES THAT KICK-@$$!!!?
I may be down for this flick. ;)

This is going to be great, I noticed they took a little from the first 3 originals, for instance, when she burns herself I remember on Dream Warriors Taryn, would burn herself to stay up but than that quit working, Freddy Picked her up and threw her in the TV. Jackie Earle Haley sounds & looks great in this.
  • I just give up, I really do. It would be much quicker to go and bash the nerds and kids that actually lay down their parents money to go see these remakes.
  • Fir3Wolf
I'm really interested in seeing this. I've always been a fan of the original Nightmare and Freddy was always on of my favorite horror icons.
  • well. actually I don't like the new makeup. the old one was way more creepy. I have to get used to the voice, but could be ok.
  • goobity
    What, no Dokken?!
  • I'm not impressed but I am intrigued. I'm definitely more interested in this project now after seeing the teaser. I'm just looking forward to seeing Jackie Earle Haley.
  • Rockie
i will watch it for JEH. i will wait for dvd. i will always like dokken singing dream warriors.
  • lilfetus
Katie Cassidy? Really? I mean seriously?
  • optimusprime24
Looks pretty good. All I've heard so far is Freddy looks different and his voice is different. Well, if you are almost burned to death, you can't have a funny voice and a smiley face. Plus, this comes out in like 8 months, so there is still plenty of work to do. I can't wait for the movie.
  • Kyle C.
Almost forgot. If this movie works, it will be because of Jackie Earl Hailey. Besides him, were stuck with a bunch of generic bad teen actors with perfect looks, besides Thomas Dekkar who was pretty good as John Conner in Sarah Conner Chronicles. Haley for the WIN!!!

P.S.- Haley also makes Watchmen much more rewatchable.
  • Slatters
These Platinum Dune remakes all look exactly the same, except with an interchangable iconic movie villain. Ugh.
  • Kyle C.
I'm feeling this could go either way. I liked the beginning with the parents burning Krueger but I'm not sure I like the fact that he's innocent. I like that Freddy seems more effed up and scary but I didn't like the fact that they just straight up copied scenes from the original film like the hand coming out the bathtub or the girl being killed above her bed.

I feel the downfall of all these Platinum Dunes remakes is that they feel they have to stick to the original somehow like with Friday the 13th or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. They need to realize we love those films for a reason and just copying and pasting aint gonna cut it. Let's hope Nightmare is a little more original. I can always watch the original films if I want to see those classic scenes.
  • probot
I was sold up until I saw Freddy's face...very underwhelming. Maybe I'll watch the trailer again.

    Seriously, what are they doing?
I mean i love Jackie Earl Hailey, but i dont see how the hell he can go from Rorschach to being Freddy Krueger in a freaken Nightmare On Elm Street remake! (Complete with shots straight from the first movie) Why does he look like Voldemort? I bet Jakcie's gonna be a great Freddy but he just dosnt hold a candle to Robert Englund. He IS Freddy, bitch! haha
The girl playing Nancy here is no way near as beautiful as Heather Langenkamp was! She was really good in the classic movies imo. This girl looks bad and plain looking!
These dream sequences, while being cool looking, lacks any character and not as real looking like the old one! The old one is where they actually build sets and probs by hand with no computers and they did that quite well i think! Fuck this movie and fuck Michael Bay!

    Seriously, what are they doing....
  • Tom
The most irritating statement fanboys make is that (insert actor name) IS (insert character name here) crap. You actually put "bitch" at the end, too, making it even more shrill sounding.

Nobody IS a character. Characters are ideas, and ideas are open to new interpretation. That's what makes them last.

As I recall, Jack Nicholson WAS The Joker and now Heath Ledger IS. It's like fanboys think if they capitalize a statement it makes it fact. It doesn't. It just makes them look even dumber and lowers people's opinions of fans. Which are already in the gutter.
  • clarencesomerset
This is a trailer dude. Chill. Or have you sneaked on set and seen the whole footage?
  • Man, this looks awesome. I always thought the Freddy concept could be terrifying, if they just make it more realistic and less sci-fi-ish.

Defiantly looking forward to this one.
  • KRB
I was a little taken aback by Krugers look at first.. but the more I think about it.. the more I like it! He is a burn victim.. not an outer space "alien". So the realism is cool and jackie harley despite being such a little man really creates a lot of menace on screen. He did the same thing with Rorschach (or however the hell you spell that) in Watchmen.

I think this (despite the usual knocking of Bay etc) could be good!
  • the same guy who abused jackie earle harley for being a child molester in 'little children' is the same guy who throws the molotov cocktail into the building

    coincidence...? I THINK NOT
  • Name
it's not the same guy. So there's no coincidence
  • Name
Noah Emmerich played that character in Little Children, the guy in the trailer is definitely Clancy Brown from The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, and Highlander.
  • That was different from the comic-con one. The clip at the end with him talking wasn't there. instead it was his eyes and hat creeping up from behind a box. anyway, I really like this trailer, especially the beginning with Jackie pre-burned. I don't know what it is about the style and color but I really really like it. I'm really excited to see the full things. Also, his voice isn't that bother some. sounds a little red-neckish i guess but i still like it since it also sounds like a burn victim haha

Freddy face aint scary it reminds me of Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort

whats next for Platinum Dunes a remake of Candyman
  • gonnagetgot
Hayley looks great, (his voice was proper bad ass) the rest of the film seems okay. Looks like a shot for shot of the first film.
  • that song the little girl sings still creeps me out..
    looking forward to it
  • Guest
how comes they did not show the directors name in the begining of the trailer
  • Nunegro
Is it just me or does the visual effects on Haley's Face not quite look finished. Maybe they are going for an ashen look? I love the voice and I'm having high hopes seeing Kyle Gallner. Maybe Haley won't be the only person that can act in this flick. lol
  • Projectionist!
look's a lot darker than the original, they might have pulled it off with the opening of the trailer were kruger, aka jakie Herle Haley running into the boiler house, showing how kruger became kruger that was not in the original.
that's a nice touch, also micheal bay producing everything he touch's turns to gold.
  • Ryan
Don't you mean everything he touches explodes?
  • Projectionist!
You got it right just hell of a Explosion Ride.
