lost3

Let’s throw a wrench into this Lost Boys assembly line, shall we? Filming on the second sequel, Lost Boys: The Thirst, is set to begin in early November (in Capetown, South Africa, no less) with Corey Feldman reprising his role as the moody vampire slayer, Edgar Frog. If you managed to fall into a sewer over the last year, the Crack Fox no doubt introduced you to Lost Boys: The Tribe, the worst vampire film to feature “extreme” skateboard stunts and tribal tatts in history. Death by direct-to-DVD. But wait! Based on the plot of Lost Boys 3, which contains a sparkly nod to Twilight, the next installment sounds even worse…

Our pals at Production Weekly have revealed the logline to Thirst, as follows…

When veteran vampire hunter Edgar Frog finds himself destitute and almost friendless, when [sic] a wealthy vampire-romance novelist offers him a small fortune to go on the vampire hunt of a lifetime and rescue her son.

Apparently Jamison Newlander, who played Edgar’s grunting bruddah, Alan Frog, in 1987’s The Lost Boys, will be back in the role for Thirst. He actually filmed a cameo as Alan for The Tribe—updated as a hot rod-driving p.i.m.p. bloodsucker—but the scenes were scrapped and placed on the special features. It sounds as if that twist is being thrown out for Thirst, no doubt in a bid to continue the Frog Brothers’ adventures for more films. If Tribe has a highlight, it was the end cameo by Corey Haim, who returned as an also-bitten Sam, to kick one-liners and face off with Feldman. Watch it here. The Coreys have since had another falling out, and in my interview with Haim last spring about LB3 he said..

So, now there’s talk about Lost Boys 3. It seems to be happening.

Corey Haim: There’s always ideas being kicked around. There’s talk about number four and number five. The Lost Girls. Just different people at the office. But it’s too late. They should have done it years ago, or just done it properly. It’s way too late. That’s just my opinion.

The script for LB3 is by Evan Charnov, whose sole credit is a writing gig on the long-cancelled “FBI agent without a fear gene,” TV show Fearless. The first sequel was written by Hans Rodionoff, who actually had some cool ideas that were scrapped by the production and went on to do the far better comic book mini-series, Lost Boys: Reign of Frogs. Reviewed here. LB3 will be directed by Dario Piana, who is credited with several Italian horror productions on IMDB and helmed The Death of Ian Stone in 2007.

This sucks. There are plenty of young, hungry directors out there who could make a faithful, fun, and atmospheric Frog Brothers movie with $4 million and the backing of the home entertainment division at Warner Bros. Instead, WB chooses to infuriate fans—the original raked in a ton of money on DVD—by making a sequel that seems logistically harder to pull off, complete with a premise that is the polar opposite of why people dig the movie, one of the best horror-dramedies ever made. By cashing in on Twilight—sarcastically or not—it’s nothing less than a categorical and inexcusable fuck you to the fanbase. At least Haim understands this. Christ.

Alright, Mighty Boosh link for some reason...

Is it that hard to make a serious vampire movie?
I know its straight-to-dvd but they can at least try.....
  • cib3k
I've seen Lost Boys (the first one) only a couple of years ago and didn't much care for it. I never really understood why people are so fond of this movie; I guess it's probably more nostalgia more than anything else.
  • RufusFirefly13
Trust me, it's not nostalgia. I was 10 years old when the movie came out and I loved it. I still watch it on a regular basis. Most movie watchers how their "list" of movies they will watch when they don't know what else to watch, if they're in the mood for a DVD. Well, Lost Boys is on my list along with Fight Club, Goodfellas, The Matrix, Akira and some others.

Lost Boys was really well done for a vampire movie made in the late 80's on such a budget with actors that weren't really HUGE names at the time. The only other vampire movie I can say that was better or equal, until now, is Interview with a Vampire and Underworld. Now mind you, I haven't seen every vampire movie released since 87' nor do I want to *COUGH* Twilight*COUGH. This is just my opinion...oh, Blood The Last Vampire was a damn good anime vampire movie.
  • Anrkist
The first one was excellent. Not because it had big names in it but because it was just done so well. From the music to the FPS view of the vampires (think how cheesy it would have looked seeing them flying around.) It just had so many things going for it. But when I hear Direct to DVD for a beloved movie... I cringe. I know it's just an effort to cash in. They wouldn't do it right even with a budget in their hands.

Hunter just said what every Lost Boys fan is thinking, thank you Hunter! I will say this, Warner Brothers is one of the most successful companies out there when it comes to what movies they release, ex. Harry Potter series, Christopher Nolan's Batman series, etc. So why didn't Warner do for lost boys what they did for their Batman franchise and go get a great director and hire a top notch screenwriter to reboot the franchise and put money into it and make it great again?? They could have done it this way and it would have worked. Imagine if Warner had gone out and got David Fincher to direct a new Lost Boys with a top notch screenwriter. Its not to late Warner Brothers, David Fincher specializes in darker films ala "The Game, Fight Club and Seven". Just a thought.

Screw this piece of garbage, did anyone from Slash see Suck at TIFF? That's the only vampire film I can get even a little excited for at this point (Wretched as the trailer makes it look)

So maybe someone can clarify this for me as I've kept myself forcefully ignorant about everything I possibly can regarding Twilight: The Vampires Sparkle in Daylight? Is this really true? I've had someone else confirm this and I still feel like I'm being had.
  • greggorybasore
No there's no truth to that rumor. It's a popular misconception that vampires in the Twilight series sparkle in daylight. Not true, they just glitter and glow in sun light which is totally different.
  • Merciful_budah
Well thanks for clearing THAT up..
  • greggorybasore
    That's what I'm here for
  • Such a shame. It didn't have to be this way.

I wish they wouldnt tag"Lost Boys"to these movie titles. The Lost Boys was such a great movie, and has a huge fan base. They basically piss on that. The only reason that Lost Boys:The Tribe made any money was because of people's curiosity, and young kids that hang out at hot topic that probably thought they upped their goth cred' by watching it.Now we all know what to expect.I hoped that "The Tribe" would be a good movie more than anyone, but I found out,and now have no faith in "The Thirst".D.J Dusk....????Come on...that is too cheesy. On top of that, why nod to Twilight? The original Lost Boys would skull **** everyone in that movie
  • morecomp
OK, I want to see it :)
  • Pat
oh who cares... take it for what it is.
  • MurderCapitalOfTheWorld
Sorry Pat..cant help but be disappointed.Alot of original Halloween fans hate Rob Zombie(still lost on that),but at least they were given a higher quality movie.
  • *Sticks finger in mouth; showing disgust with his face*
  • Jane
This is going to be a huge insult to the Lost Boys, I can tell already. Joel Schumacher needs to direct it for it to be even slightly okay with this awful plot and no one else has his style. Plus, LB is his baby.
  • harryhansy
are we happy about this? I mean really? # 3?
  • zyaakk
here's my idea for a sequel, very rough idea :)

    lost boys 3

    characters :
    sam,david, frog bros, michael, star.....

plot: david's payback, sam & michael reunited.... revenge & of course vampirism...

David finally tries to reek his revenge on the emersons after years of trying to regain vampire status..

story begins with flashback which shows what happened right after first movie ended with dark / distorted images of sam & "the gang" disposing of the vampire bodies from the original lost boys, along with audible voices, sam, edgar etc.. "some implode, some explode, right?"... "yeah & erm, & some wait for the sun to rise, apparently" in reference to david who hasn't exploded, melted etc...

the gang are disposing of the bodies at the original "lair" at the cliffs & then leave a trail of gasoline... while they drive off ... booooom & (barely distinguishable scream as david awakens?) as cast drive away...

    present day..

    cast -

sam : has had drug problems growing up, traumatised & paranoid from what happened in the original movie..not seen his bro etc.. for years....
ran away/ loner & been in & breaking himself out of rehab for years, plagued by nasty dreams of vampires, dreams seem real, drugs etc.. let him escape.. he's been clean for 2 years now..
& ready to track down, talk to michael & star after years of not being in touch with eachother... sam turns up (includes false scare, one night after m & s have closed there beach bar...see below)

frog bros - search hard for vampirism online, as much as they want to kick vampire ass they really haven't met any "real" vamps since the original & their main income comes from selling comics on the net. while trying to track doewn "real vamps" from forums etc..
lack of vamp lead to a big blowout as alan stopped believing there are any more vamps to kill & leaves edgar to move back to santa carla alone...

michael & star... own their own bar on/ beside the beach, in/ near santa carla & have a 17 year old kid, who gets into a bit of trouble with new beach bikers (who may or may not have a certain "boss" ordering them to provoke, lead on the kid)
they have a dog too :) & still drive the old car from first movie, repairing it etc...

david.... in original movie wasn't actually killed, didn't go through his heart, as max was staked though, this means david was no longer a vamp, just an injured average human again.
this explains why he is now older looking. because he has only just become a vampire again in the new movie. 20 or so years of ageing.he has spent the last 20 years trying to become a vamp again.
desperately missing the thrill the buzz & desperate to get his revenge on sam & michael etc... pissed at "growing old" too...
he has been keeping tabs on those he can from the internet etc... & finally turned & built up some new, scary friends who are willing to do anything for him.

movie plot initially revolves around broken repairing relationships with "scenes of a frightning nature" interlaced as david gets his powers back. michael & star's kid's troubles, sam's return to s/c & reuniting with the frogs at the internet mail order/ comic book store : ) & of course after we get the gang back together a final / ultimate climax...

cue late nights, shared memories, paranoia, familiar faces & lots of fangs...
  • paigec
Jesus fucking Christ can't they just leave the classics alone? I mean the second one already screwed up the fanbase for the original and this one is going to make it worse, especially if it's going to look up to something so screwed up as Twilight. Fuck you Warner Bros!!!!
  • rawr.
what i hate is that all the old good vampire movies are being bumped because of bloody twilight. i mean i am a fan of twilight, read all the books. thats about all that is good about the twilight saga is the books.

if you want to watch a good vampire movie, well lost boys, and the underworld series are just for you. BECAUSE they werent based on books, but comics, which have more space to adapt the movie without making it shit. like ohh let me see...twilight?
  • SEth Gecko
If i can throw in a vampire movie let me throw this one in cause it was ENTERTAINING.....FRom Dusk til DAwn.
