Photos and Videos From David O Russell’s The Fighter

With the lack of news today, I went searching around the interwebs for something, anything, interesting to post. In my journeys, I have just discovered a bunch of set photos (some of which look like possible production photos) and video blogs from David O Russell’s The Fighter which have apparently been online for a few weeks, but have gone almost completely unnoticed. I’ve included a few of the photos below.

Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and Dickie (Christian Bale) during the Mungin fight.

David O Russell directs Mark Wahlberg

The Fighter

Head on over to IAmRogue to see more photos. They also have a few video blogs featuring Mark Wahlberg training for the film, which I have embedded below:

The Fighter tells the story of Dicky Eklund (Bale), a real life boxer-turned-trainer who rebounded after a run of drugs and crime. Shepherded his half-brother “Irish” Micky Ward (Wahlberg), Dicky had a Rocky-like rise to the world lightweight championship. Ward fought throughout the mid-’80s and ’90s, but he’s best remembered for three battles with Arturo Gotti, two of which went down as the greatest in the history of the sport. Amy Adams plays “a tough, gritty bartender and former college high-jumper” who ends up dating Wahlberg’s character. The Fighter is set to hit theaters in 2010.

i think christian bale is going to die from his dedication to acting. holy crap
  • [A]
    haha yes, exactly my thoughts
  • jgrew030
I wish I had that type of dedication

My buddy shot those videos! Great job Mikkel!!

I think Bale would make a killing off of some "How to lose half your body weight in a week" instructional videos. I mean, Jesus....

Although I would guess that by now he so used to doing it that he has it down to a science. I've always admired his dedication, if it can get a little extreme (The Machinist).

Yeah, but it isn't Bale doing it alone. He gets help from nutritionists and personal trainers. So Bale couldn't offer any advice that he hasn't learned from the people that help him.

i love how guys like bale, oldman, and lewis can go totally 'chameleon' with a character. ledger showed us glimpses of it too. its dedication plus a talent all of its own. crazy shit man...
  • [A]
What 'lewis' you're referring to? Oh wait, Daniel Day Lewis? I got it now, nevermind ;)

Bale looks sick again (sick in both a good and a bad way). The guy is unbelievable, really. Hope this movie is good--

After Bale dies his body must be donated to science in order to figure out how he can control his metabolism and weight so well.

    And he's a vegetarian!

christian aBle is one of the most crazy actors ever

It looks like another role for Bale to sink his teeth into that isn't the "intense badass" even though I'm sure he'll have some intense moments because of the nature of his characters past.
  • As long as Bale packs it back on for another go as Batman, I'm cool.

But still, he must have one hell of a nutritionist.

Bale is the man and I've got good vibes that this film will kick those old sports' film cliches in the ass. Cannot wait!
  • how does he do it ?
  • Megajat
That 2nd last pic of bale with that expression on his face is epic win!!!
  • Peteara
I just hope he doesn't do any extensive damage to himself...bulking up and then dropping weight drastically like that is so bad for your body.
  • I might go watch Raging Bull now.
  • rookje
Odd, Bale said he'd never do that kind of weight/gain loss again and here he is...

    It's really REALLY unhealthy :/
  • Totally agree he lost so much weight for this role he is really skinny. Seeing as it's done though, I can only hope that the weight loss will aid him in acting the rebound druggie part (along with the other character complications).

Contrary to belief Bale is not a vegetarian. He was at one point but renegaged on it a short while after.

Bale truly does dedicate himself to the performance, it is a suprise he has never recieved a mention from the Oscars throughout his career.
  • Toaster27
So is this film primarily about Micky or Dicky?
  • Thanks for looking Peter, this is great stuff!!
