From Paris With Love Movie Trailer

Pierre Morel’s follow up to the sleeper smash Taken is another Europacorp produced action machine. From Paris With Love stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as an embassy worker and John Travolta as a spy, thrown together by some apparent misunderstanding and charged with smashing, crashing and all-round actioneering in order to thwart a terrorist threat in the French capital. Check out the trailer for yourself after the break.

I think the Europacorp action factory, which has produced everything from the original Taxi and its sequels through to the District 13 films, and typically with a script at least co-written by Luc Besson, is pretty dependable in delivering nice, solid b-movie style action shenanigans. Hopefully From Paris With Love will be no different. Besson is here credited as a co-writer alongside Adi Hasak, previously credited with George P. Cosmatos’ Shadow Conspiracy.

This trailer appears below.

Rhys Meyers is an unusual pick for this kind of thing, but I would have said the same about Liam Neeson before enjoying his running and jumping in Taken fully. Travolta seems very well employed here, in a role that plays to his strengths superbly. I’m hoping he has a little dance sequence too, as a cherry on the cheesecake.

Despite the James Bond reference in the title, I’m picking up on as much North By Northwest here (though admittedly, ‘as much’ is not so much).

Morel’s next picture looks to be his first studio engagement, taking on Pursuit for Universal. Peter reported on that one in July, telling us:

Pursuit is an action thriller is based on the early career on conflict photographer Jason Howe, who fell in love with a woman while on assignment in Columbia, only to later discover that she is an assassin for right-wing death squads. The studio is searching for a screenwriter for the project.

Beyond that, he’s also working on a fairly secret action film to be set in Tokyo and the inevitable Taken sequel. Bring ‘em on.

Does this remind anyone of Training Day?
  • h dot scott
    Definitely
  • Trig
A bit like training day but doubt that Travolta is a bad guy. Looks great
  • Kyle C.
No, not really. It does remind me of 48 Hours or Lethal Weapon.
  • Kyle C.
I've been waiting for this flick for a while now, saw a teaser like a year ago. Looks like a fun throwback to 80's buddy cop flicks. Travolta looks like he's having a ball, but Meyers seems a little out of place. Can't wait, I loved Distict B13 and enjoyed Taken.
  • kdrodawg
John Travolta looks too similar to his character in The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, but other than that, looks to be decent
  • trig
To Kyle C., don't you think that's the point in the film. Isn't the Rhys Meyers character supposed to be out of his element?
  • Kyle C.
I know what the film is going for but I'm just not feeling his portayal of that kind of character. He said one to many cliched things in that trailer, I just didn't buy it. I like the guy as an actor, I just think they probably could have found a better foil to Travolta's character.

LOL that is one ugly poster. Is this a comedy..? Gotta be.
  • Kyle C.
Yea, that poster is pretty bad but did you watch the trailer. It definitely looks like a buddy action comedy.
  • rockinrors
No joke, I think its awesome.
  • Chris_Hanson
I find it impossible to take John Travolta serious as an actor. His characters are way to cartoonish and unbelievable. Its a shame, cuz the film looks alright...but theres just way to much Travolta in it to take it seriously.
  • Kyle C.
In a serious film, I totally agree, but for a film like this, he's perfect, unless you just totally despise the guy.
  • MickJ
    Ooooo WEEEEE YOU GOOD LOOKIN'!
  • Weyland_Yutani
As long as it dares to take things the little bit further that Taken never approached, it could be good. Just disappointed that Taken didn't twist a little.

...and patiently waiting for Besson to direct again.
  • Happy_Evil_Dude
Dude, Besson IS directing...his new movie is coming out in December....
  • Weyland_Yutani
Nice reminder. That should be interesting, but really I'm hoping to see more live action work. It's been five years since Angel-A and a decade since The Messenger or The 5th Element.
  • dagreenman18
While i hate John Travolta (he hasn't done a good film since Pulp Fiction and he's part of COS), i love Pete Morel and Taken was a good fucking movie, so i'll check this out.
  • Kyle C.
It's Pierre, not Peter. The more you know!
  • Kokushi
Good trailer, dagreenman18, Travolta did Get Shorty, Face/Off and The Thin Red Line (good movies imo) after Pulp Fiction.
  • Fir3Wolf
Looks like a pretty action packed movie, which is never a bad thing. Lets see if the story is any good. Travolta is hit or miss with me but he looks alright in this.
  • Better than I expected first!
This is Travoltas 62th comeback, now as the new Jason Statham. Cool :D
  • Marc
I love these Luc Besson produced action pictures. I'm in!
  • that poster is atrocious...
  • HL
First they made neeson looked badass. Now is travolta. Nice...
  • CIV
I dug taken, I am super psyched to see this... and no Jack, it does not remind me of training day, except for the bald, more senior, main character.

    GO Johnny T!!
  • BC
    This trailer is terrible.
  • What is with Travolta and his seemingly tacked on F-Bombs? they seem so awkward haha
  • I guess we can conclude from the trailer that his name is Wax..?
  • what a dumb poster
  • AWhitman
you lost me at jonathan cardboard myers
  • Pretty much what was stated as far as I can tell. Classic B-movie, decent for a run of entertainment but nothing more.
