Exclusive: Up in the Air Teaser Trailer

zz0a0a374e

The biggest hit of the Telluride Film Festival was the surprise premiere of Jason Reitman’s adaptation of Up in the Air. For those of you who missed it, you can read my glowing review here. George Clooney stars as Ryan Bingham, “a corporate downsizing expert whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he is on the cusp of reaching ten million frequent flyer miles and just after he’s met the frequent-traveler woman of his dreams.” Despite what the official studio released plot synopsis might lead you to believe, this film is not exactly a romantic comedy, it is much more.

Paramount Pictures has provided /Film with the exclusive premiere of the first teaser trailer for Up in the Air, which is an alternative cut created by Reitman specifically for the internet. The teaser is based around a speech that Bingham gives at motivational speaking gigs. It’s a very Fight Club-esque philosophy — that the things you own, and the relationships you carry, end up owning you and weighing you down. And this is the key philosophy of Ryan Bingham, who lives his life traveling around the world, free of relationships, family or compromises. Watch the teaser trailer after the jump.

Watch the trailer in High Definition here: 480p and 720p.

Up in the Air is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 4th 2009.

Man, I can't wait to see this.

Agreed, I got tickets to it's Toronto Film Fest premiere, very excited to see Mr. Reitman for a second time.
  • joker93
This looks excellent, I'll definitely see it.
  • Holy shit!!
  • Mr.thrope
ditto, and add a oh my fuck.
  • jeff25
One of the best scripts that I have read in quite some time. I'm looking forward to this film. Can anyone say Oscar?
  • ericlarson
    Color me excited
  • the editing here is great, but we haven't seen much of Vera Farmiga in the trailer.
  • Between this and The Men Who Stare At Goats, Clooney is shaping up to have a damned good Holiday season. This looks really interesting though. J.K. Simmons (of course. Reitman won't do a movie without him, I don't think), Jason Bateman, Zach Galifanakis, Danny McBride and Clooney? This should be awesome.
  • It seems like a movie I'm going to love. I hope the movie keeps the feeling from the trailer
  • angrymoor
I really enjoyed this teaser. I want to see the movie more now.

You know before this trailer, I didn't really know much about this film at all except a clip I watched yesterday. The clip got me curious, the dialogue was snappy and funny, it seemed very interesting. But I have to say this trailer was crafted; crafted by people who truly know how to make a good trailer. I almost hope they don't make another. All I need is what I got here. Very impressed, and very excited.
  • Blahman
Ummm...What is this movie about? Sheesh.
  • midge_6
im with you, its like give us a little bit of info about it!!!
  • Sarzy
I couldn't disagree more -- I hate how most trailers give away every single plot point right up to the last 15 minutes or so. I love trailers like this one, that just give you a little taste of the movie without actually spelling out the plot. This is one of the best trailers I've seen in a while.
  • RosanatorDA
why do you think they call it a tease.
  • Amazing. But it looks like it's going to be like 5 hours long...
  • Bill
Looks like an interesting film and I look forward to watching it.
  • Peter R
I love me some Zach Galifanakis. Oh and Ol'Geroge has been my favorite since O Brother Where art Thou.
  • calrk

  • Brad
    Two words: Best Picture.
  • SS
Thanks for this Peter.. lots of exclusives for /Film today. I tried to get tickets to this at TIFF but they sold out so quickly. It's cool that Jason Reitman created this specifically for the internet. The city shots were incredible -even just seeing a mere glimpse of them - you mentioned that in your video blog.
  • LuMendz
I can't wait. So much movies to anticipate this year and next, it's hard to keep track of them.
  • briansanderson
Looks very good. Will be seeing this.
  • PalmliX
Cool trailer. I love the smooth steady shots in the clouds, magical!
  • kristua
Does anyone know the music that was playing in this trailer?
  • m.e.f.
Yes, it is by a band called Charles Atlas
  • scott
Count me in. Looks like Reitman is going 3 for 3 with this one. I don't need (or want) to see any more.
  • I wouldn't get my hope too high for this. Seems kind of pseudo-intellectual. "..we are not swans - we are sharks."
  • aaronjp
    Killjoy.
  • "The slower you move the faster you die..."
    SOLD
  • Mike
Wow this trailer definitely got me interested.
  • Octoberist
    Clooney's the man.
  • Beber
I damn want the name of the song too!!!!!!!
    plz anyone?!!! ^^

    movie good looks anyway
  • Frequent Flyer
the song is "genova" by textile ranch and charles atlas
  • akmonday
It's actually just by Charles Atlas, but Genova was on a split ep with Textile Ranch (both Textile Ranch and Charles Atlas are made up of members/ex-members of the band Piano Magic). I believe CA also have other songs in the film. Those songs, and this one, are all available in iTunes, in fact, it may be the only place you can find them these days.
  • jef
The other Charles Atlas song on the soundtrack is "The Snow Before Us". Both available on iTunes
  • thanx frien. good trailer
  • GregoryV
    I must read this book.
  • I want to see this so much that it's not even funny.
  • Ben C
Wo, didn't know Zach Galifianakis was in this.
  • Nick1
Wasn't this up yesterday? I saw it on youtube yesterday with your logo. Was that not official?
  • ag
    quirky
  • I hope that speech isn't in the movie. I works well in a trailer but it might be a little too on the nose for a two hour feature.
  • The speech is a composite of two or three different speeches Clooney makes in the film, and it works well within the movie
  • Well that's good to know.
  • This looks really good.......I can't wait to see it !
  • Name
    Boring. Definite chick flick.
  • thorofthunder
    You sir, are an idiot.
  • Jose
I agree. This looks like one of those films that everybody praise in filmfest after filmfest but bombs in the box office. Apparently, the only people who liked it are the critics and movie intellectuals.
