More MMA fighters are invading your action movies. We just had the report that female fighter Gina Carano would be starring in Steven Soderbergh’s next film. Now there is a credible report that former UFC champ Rampage Jackson, tagged for the role over a year ago, has arrived in Vancouver, where he’ll spend the next six weeks sporting a mohawk and gold chains as The A-Team’s resident malcontent mechanic B.A. Baracus.

The role is a loaded one, as it broke Mr. T into global superstardom during the show’s original run from 1983 to 1987. The Vancouver Sun reports now that Rampage Jackson (real name: Quinton Ramone Jackson) was just recently cast in the film, after a high-profile string of rumors had pegged nearly every possible African-American actor or celebrity with the proper build to join the film. When John Singleton was directing the film there was a lot of talk about Jackson taking the role, so this isn’t much of a surprise. Jackson has a minor career as an actor (he’s got credits in Midnight Meat Train, among other things, but this will be his first major role.)

The joke in the show was that B.A. stood for ‘bad attitude’ and that seems appropriate given the character’s new actor. One of Rampage Jackson’s more famous recent exploits was his excursion into reckless driving — kind of an understatement as Jackson led police on an extended chase while driving on the wrong side of the road in a Ford F-350 that has his portrait painted on it. Too bad about that, as he’s got a fairly impressive record in the ring. (Sorry, the Octagon.)

Can Jackson turn his B.A. into the sort of figure that Mr. T promoted? Good question, and Jackson is fairly charismatic. Check out his Jimmy Kimmel appearance last year (around the time of the original A-Team rumors) for a little suggestion of his potential as B.A. Baracus. Granted, at the end of the day this is just an A-Team movie. Not exactly serious stuff. Once again, Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin’ Aces) is directing Jackson alongside Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck and a reported Liam Neeson as Col. John ‘Hannibal’ Smith.

  • Rampage Jackson is a great choice he's probably not a great actor but it's not like Mr. T was winning any Emmys with that role.

I pity and fool joining that cast.
  • Troy
Anyone know if they're using that awful "Face is the bad guy" plot twist that was allegedly in one of the recent drafts of the script? I'd sure hate for them to go that route.
  • Brody
    Love Rampage.
  • kfizz
I knew it from start that he would be great for it.
  • Frankly I don't understand how it couldn't just be Mr. T. I mean he is the definition of irreplaceable. I think the dude could still pull it off.

this movie keeps getting worse with every casting

I tried tipping Peter off with this a couple weeks ago, but eh, guess some things aren't too credible early on.

I like Rampage as a fighter, but his acting well I don't know about that. He was alright in Midnight Meat Train...I guess?
  • SomeGuy
I think it's perfect casting, perfectly
  • The big question remains unanswered: Will he throw Snickers bars?
  • Octoberist
So the movie is barley getting into production and it's due next Summer? Another rushed Fox movie?
  • Merciful_budah
Brad cooper is playing Face. That's pretty cool. What I REALLY want to know is who's gonna be playing Howling Mad Murdock. Cuz if they don't have that shit cast yet, I might have to just find my way up to vancouver... maybe offer the producers some "special' milk...

I hope Rampage is doin it for the kids...
  • I think it's a good call on casting, after all Rampage has potential, but I'm just a little annoyed that filming is taking place so soon after-all Jackson is hopefully fighting Evans in December which is sure to be an explosive fight and I'd expect him to put months of training into his potential final big hurrah!
  • Rampage was in Midnight meat train(got cut up real good). Like him as a fighter, he can do attitude and if you watch any vids of him while he's training or just hanging out he's hilarious.

Qui Gon may be in this?....now I am slightly interested.

I always imagined Kimbo Slice as B.A. Baracus, but Rampage would be the next best choice.
  • IStayedInSchool!
I think Rampage is a poor choice. I think that an A-Team movie is a bad idea. Rampage is poor because Mr. T was clearly aware ans respectful of his responsibilities as a role model: "Drink yo milk, sucka!", "Stay is school or be somebody's fool!" stuff. Rampage is a self-absorbed testosterone brat that will teach kids that even if you suck at acting, drive like a lunatic and disrespect cops, it doesn't nmateer as long as your rich, good-looking, and famous. That guy is a SUCKA!

i know he in a tough spot between UFC, dana, and movies but by all means after reading his blog regaurding this situation, go for what ever you feel is right Rampage. UFC isnt a definite career. but we loved what u did for the sport.
