Fantastic Mr. Fox Featurette

Fantastic Mr. Fox Behind the scenes

Fox Searchlight has released a new featurette for Wes Anderson’s new film, the animated adaptation of Fantastic Mr. Fox. The featurette isn’t your typical EPK feature, and has the patented Wes Anderson feel, complete with narration by actor Jason Schwartzman. The featurette takes a simple glance at the process of stop-motion animation. The most interesting part is footage of the actors recording their lines on location in various farm locations, far away from the usual recording booths we’re used to seeing.

Fantastic Mr. Fox hits theaters on November 13th 2009.

Fantastic. I love how the sound doesn't quite match the movements (i.e. when Ash is running towards the crate and slams into it) - makes it feel more "homemade" and warm

I'm a huge Wes Anderson fan, but I was pretty concerned after the first trailer. This featurette puts me at ease. Perhaps I "get it" more after seeing the method to the madness, as it were?
  • Eh. Its all great in theory, but there is a fine line between ideology and functionality.

...and I'm getting a total mancrush on George Clooney

Recording their lines like that seems really cool. Still looks really creepy though.

Wes Anderson seems to be in his element once again with a totally new format.

Why is the stopmotion so much more apparent in this film than other ones like it? Is it because of the nature of the puppets? Claymation like Wallace and Gromit seem much more fluid in motion that this.

Also the voice off from the movements really distracted me during this whole thing. I love the story and author, love the voice cast...I am just worried I am going to be too distracted when I see it by the stop-motion.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. It has been a long while since I've seen anything stop motion but I think Wes Anderson is going to make a great movie.
