Rambo 5 Gets The Greenlight

Rambo

After the successful release of Rambo 4 (which was released under the simple title Rambo), there has been a lot of talk about making a possible fifth film. Stallone had hinted that he hopes to take the character into a “slightly different genre,” leaving many fans to speculate sci-fi or a more comic bookish approach. He later was quoted as saying that “this is the last Rambo just as Rocky Balboa is the last Rocky.” Yeah right…

Nu Image/Millennium Films have officially announced a greenlight for Rambo’s fifth mission, with Sylvester Stallone signed on to return to star and also direct. No word on if Stallone will also write this latest adventure, but I would say it’s a strong possibility considering that he wrote the screenplays for the previous films.

So what is the new movie going to be about? According to Variety, Rambo will fight his way “through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border.” Doesn’t sound like the big departure that Sly had previously promised (but then again, he also said that there would never be a fifth Rambo film).

Earlier this year, the not-so-reliable British tabloid paper The Sun reported that Mickey Rourke had agreed to play the villain in a fifth Rambo. There has also been rumors that Stallone was looking to film the sequel in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, which would
actually serve as Rambo’s hometown “somewhere in Arizona.” I’m not sure if those were totally bunk, but it sounds like it.

Stallone is currently doing post production on The Expendables, but production on Rambo 5 will start in the spring.

Awesome! I was worried there wouldn't be any movies coming out I already recognized!
Thank you Nu Image/Millennium Films this is great news, not sad or pathetic at all!

One of my least favorite films of last year gets a sequel! Yay!
  • Fuck yes!
  • freemachine
    Yo, Adrian!
  • e_dog
I guess the F-bombs have it. But I think it would be more interesting to do an honest take of what it would be like if a roided-out 60-something Vietnam vet went on a killing spree ... especially one with such a checkered past.
  • awesome! hopefully its kinda horror-ish, with rambo sneaking in the shadows with that gnarly knife of his
  • I would watch another Rambo movie. I liked the last one enough. This is going to be even better if the Mickey Rourke rumor is true.
  • Yoji
My only problem about the last Rambo is that there wasn't enough gratuitous violence in it, so I hope they address that in this film.
  • lol! Did you even see the last film or did you just completely miss the .50 Cal sequence where he rips apart 100 or so vietnamese?
  • Vietnamese? Vietnamese in Burma? Did you even see the last film? =D
  • Blaaaaaaah. Whaaaaaaatevs ;)
  • Yoji
Haha, no I did, but I like to imagine how much more crazy Rambo 5 could be.

Sarcasm over the internet, should have known -.-.
  • yea!! RAMBO!!!
  • bigwyll

Stallone wants a closure for Rambo.
    I totally agree to that.
  • They drew first blood. 5 films later and he's still machine-gunning baddies and slashing throats while covered in mud. Timeless?
  • You don't just turn it off.
  • mangoshakes
heck yah. slash, nobody believed it was the last rambo. but i think most people believe there won't be another rocky. perfect ending
  • rockinrors
But the latest movie was so crap.
  • gigaherc
The best news since Bruce joining Expendables.

Sly is on fire right now, and he really understands fans. That's beautiful.
  • Why do i get a feeling that rambo 5 is not goin to be a hit?
  • Guest
they should have a story about Rambo just found out that he has a daughter from a old relationship he had long time ago then he found out his daughter been kiddnap by human traffickers and drug lords. this will force Rambo to kill them scums for taking his daughter plus the person who kidnapp his daughter is a person who knows Rambo cause him and Rambo was war buddies or war enemies.
  • danno
    I'd green light that baby!
  • JPX
Awesome news! Say what you want about Stallone, but the man knows how to deliver a satisfying action flick!
  • SWEET! Hope it's as Troma-riffic at the last one!!
  • krsone
he never said that "Rambo" was the last one thats why the changed the title from John Rambo... to just Rambo he didnt want people thinking it was the last one like Rocky Balboa was.........they fully intended there to be a sequel.......
  • empatojayos
I knew Sly would do a 5th Rambo.

Hope this one gets more in the genre of First Blood (more story, less action)

This will be a cinema visit in my Rambo costume.....

    Greets, Empatojayos
  • Awesome...

Bring it on!!! Usually I'd be against this but I freakin' loved the last Rambo movie. It was a great bookend to First Blood and First Blood part 2. I would love to see a Rambo version of Man on Fire but keep Stallone as writer/director as I think he's the only one who can do himself justice on film these days.
  • Didn't see the last Rambo flick, but Rocky Balboa was as good as any of the Rocky movies, and The Expendables looks great. Stallone's still kickin ass!
  • Spawn
Yo Adrian!!! I can't feel my legs, where's my prescription drugs?

Rambo 5: Last Blood...Well, that's not a certainty, but it's highly likely considering that Stallone is 89 years old......................Don't quote me on that.
