The network that gifted America The Two Coreys and Biography: Megan Fox is ready to release its new reality spin on COPS entitled Steven Seagal: Lawman. /Film was unable to confirm with A&E at press time that Seagal was shot and killed while akido-chopping a bum huffing duster in midst of crashing a glory hole ring.

According to the trailer below, which agreeably plays like The Foot Fist Way meets “Sabotage” meets shit TV, Seagal was legitimately “deputized” 20 years ago. Ever since, he’s been secretly putting on his spectacles to ride with Lousiana’s five-o’s on night patrol. Overly caffeinated fact-checkers, stand up! It’s too bad Lil’ Weezy can’t give Deputy Seagal an inner-tour of his home state in exchange for a few guitar lessons. The code of the streets forbids it. Against the flash of believable cop lights, Seagal adds: “Well, the show is real. This is not a joke.” Seconds later, Seagal is predictably introducing a derelict’s forehead to a cop car…

We have to give credit to Seagal’s agent (and Vern, of course!): with a new series and a role in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete alongside Danny Trejo, De Niro, and a Lohan, Seagal hasn’t staged a potential comeback like this since playing third-fiddle in Executive Decision. And if the top-ranked Seagalogist in the world finds the trailer simpatico, how can we argue? Here’s what Vern says: “It’s not trying to be cute, it’s trying to be badass. And I love all the dramatic posed shots of him like a movie. In fact it looks better than some of his movies.”

From the official press release: Until now, Seagal has never sought publicity for his work with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. However, over a span of almost two decades, he has regularly gone out on patrol and worked major cases. The series will allow fans to ride shotgun with Seagal as he and his hand-selected elite team of deputies respond to crimes-in-progress. Then, when Seagal goes off-duty, the cameras will continue following him as he pursues his many ventures - including musical performances and philanthropic efforts - in Jefferson Parish and New Orleans.

Looks hilarious. Can't wait for the knockoff show that follows Officer Shaq around Miami as he takes down Florida hoodlums.
  • dagreenman18
Actually, he's taking on other sports stars in their respective sports.

Now all we need to do is convince Jean Claude Van Damme to move to Jefferson Parish/New Orleans and begin a life of crime.
  • freemachine
The show may be "real", but that hair ain't.
  • freemachine
The title doesn't make much sense: "Steven Seagal IS LAWMAN." WTF? They need to stick with the traditional: Seagal IS adv/adj - art/prep - noun. They should rename the show: "Steven Seagal IS ACTING THE FOOL."

    oh yeah, baby

I remember an episode of Conan's show from a few years ago when Anderson Cooper was a guest. It seems like it was a few months after hurricane Katrina and he was telling Conan that while he was there reporting he saw Seagal driving around in a cop car. It was funny because Anderson was really perplexed to see Seagal there. Basically, Seagal was trying to act like he was some kind of badass because he was working with the cops. Later on, Anderson went to a bar that a lot of cops hang out at and he asked them about Seagal. They said that he autographed a picture of himself and hung it on the wall and when he left the cops were defacing the picture. I can't remember if he said they were throwing darts at it or shooting it with their guns. It was pretty fuckin hilarious.

You've gotta admit, the confusion factor alone should work against most criminals.

"Oh crap, it's the pigs! Let's get out of here!"

"Yeah man, let's... is that Steven Seagal?"

    "Who?"

"The dude Kurt Russell threw out of a plane."

    "What?!?!"

    "You've never seen Executive Decision?"

    "Uh... no."

"Oh man. Great movie. There's this part where-"

(Seagal karate kicks criminal one with a grace belying his massive gut)

    "Oh crap."
  • nolacuse
I live in Jefferson Parish...maybe I should do something really illegal and hope Seagal is the one that shows up!
  • lokiboy101

I have been a Segal "fan" since I "discovered" him 4 or 5 years ago. I thing it was mainly because of his opposition to mainstream law enforcement and willingness to step outside the rules a bit. He was an outlaw's outlaw. His new role in law enforcement puts he and I at bipolar positions. I am an ex-con gone straight fan and I have an absolute distaste for the below normal IQ badges and blue. This downgrading of Seagal to Porky Pig from wolverine has me livid. I am giving away my Segal collection forthwith and will never buy nor watch one again until he renounces this ridiculous rodeo clown act.
  • tommyLeo
GO, STEVEN SEAGAL!!!!!!!!!!!! NO OTHERS STARS CAN BOAST THIS HARD. AT LEAST NOT YET TRYING TO.
  • Dave A
Say what you will but this is one cop I wouldn't throw a punch at.
  • Danny
Lots of funny comments about Seagal. Would all the comedians like to step outside with the old man?
  • BobaFett
    Absolutely,

    A. I could distract him with a gift certificate to Coldstone.
    B. Employ a rope a dope, not allowing him near me.
    C. Just hide beneath his gut.
