VOTD: Quentin Tarantino on Charlie Rose

zz172888c2 Quentin Tarantino recorded an hour long interview with Charlie Rose last week to promote Inglourious Basterds. Readers of the site know that I love long form interviews with good filmmakers. You can download the WMV video file of the interview right now by clicking here. The streaming version on Google Video doesn’t appear to be working yet (but I’ve also included that after the jump). And while I’m at it, why not include the rest of Tarantino’s Charlie Rose interview appearances from the last 15 years? Yes, those are available after the jump as well.

1994 - Pulp Fiction

1997 - Jackie Brown

with Pam Grier

2004 - Kill Bill

2007 - Grindhouse with Robert Rodriguez

2009 - Inglourious Basterds

  • Welp, there goes any plans I had for the rest of the night. Thanks a lot Slashfilm!
  • psychrobot
Thanks Slashfilm. I just wanted to go to bed and turn on something to listen to. QT FTW!

    Edit:
I can't get the inglourious basterds interview to work :(

Charlie Rose is great. I wish he wouldn't interrupt his guests so much, but what can you do? He's also done some great interviews in the past with Wes Anderson, Bill Murray, Brad Pitt, and George Clooney. Good on you for posting these Tarantino ones.
  • Yeah seriously. It's not the "Charlie Rose Show" or anything. Who does he think he is
  • Saladinho
Yeah, you've never watched the show before. Otherwise you'd know what I'm talking about.
  • Nah bro. I'm just trying to be funny.

I know what you're talking about. It's not just that he interrupts either. Usually in interview shows like this, they don't cut to the host listening, nodding his head, etc. But for some reason CR gets almost as much screen time as the guest every episode.
  • Saladinho
I figured. Your reputation precedes you, but, I had to hedge my bets. Heh. But yeah, I love Charlie, but I could strangle him sometimes: one of the funniest instances was he asked a question of Brad Pitt, and just as Pitt was about to answer with a quote from Adaptation, Charlie jumped in, answered his own question and then changed the subject. WTF?!
  • lol. Its called pulling a Rose
  • Saladinho
    Heheh. I actually believe that.
  • BruceGoose
"lol. Its called pulling a Rose"

The Rose likes to nip it in the bud sometimes.
  • i've been watching these all week. great interviews.
  • Same bro.

I wish I could have seen this one first though. He covers about everything in this one interview that he did in a month of Late Night.

Oh speaking of which. I think he's on Conan tonight
  • Dave
    This is great, Thanks Peter!

Me, Quentin and Charlie all agree that his 1994 interview is the single greatest filmed interview of his career.
  • bubbajosh
Yeah, it's maybe the best special feature on the Pulp Fiction Collector's DVD.
  • alejandra fitzsimons
Thanks Peter. And yes, that one s the best ever filmed.
    (Now we're like four)

    Great interview,
Basterds really re energized my faith in tarantino and am looking forward to his next project. I kinda felt like he slipped alittle in death proof, but its still IMO a great film compared to what we have seen in theaters lately.
  • quintushalls
Can anyone tell me if the interview really spoils the movie? I haven't seen it yet and I would like to limit the spoilers while learning his opinions.
  • to an extent it does
  • Thank you for posting this. I wanted to see it but I knew I missed it and didn't put it up on the DVR.
  • PalmliX
Amazing post! Just watched the Inglorious interview and it was freakin awesome!
  • the inglourious basterds interview still hasn't loaded for me.
  • Damn I wish the last one would work. Its not working for me!
  • the video is linked in the beginning of the article
  • ahh, i overlooked that. thanks, i've seen all the others now so i'm itching for the new one.

There's one videi missing here, from Christmas 1997, where Charlie Rose has Tarantino and three film critics on to talk about the Christmas movies.
They talk a little bit about Jackie Brown but mainly about other movies, and it's quite entertaining.Tarantino says that his favorite films of that year were Chasing Amy and My Best Friends Wedding!

Tarantino and Rodriguez, my favorite filmmakers. Pam Grier, my favorite actress. All talking to Charlie Rose, my favorite journalist. The only thing missing was a drive-in, some popcorn and a large soda. Thx for the experience.
  • zamarov
    that's a great interview
it's so refreshing to see a director be so open and honest about himself, his work and his aspirations
    I salute you Mr. Tarantino!
